Either way people are dying. Let’s not forget who took us into this pointless and expensive war in Afghanistan and the pointless and expensive war in Iraq.
Where are those WMDs W & Crew were so sure of? Didn’t find any because there was nothing to find, and I’m sure W & Crew were privy to that before any troops were mobilized.
As always, what he (and all of us) need to do is simple, but simple doesn’t mean easy.
Remember that we are not as big as we would like to be and cannot do everything.
Decide what “winning” in Afghanistan is.
Figure out just how much this “winning” will costs us in terms of money, equipment, time, lives lost, and things we wont be able to do because we are devoteing our resources to this war.
Decide if we are really willing to pay this price.
Let’s get out now, the truth is we are wasting our men and womens lives with each day we delay.
Stupidity and no plan got us into Afghanistan and especially Iraq. Taking some time to consider decisions is sound movement, not another Bush pile of bowel movement. Those who know counter-insurgency from the standpoint of having BEEN the invader understand that when you did something really stupid, and ignored all of history, the facts, and advice from those who actually know what they’re doing, changing the plan is a bleeep good idea.
We need to get out. We do NOT need to run either Iraq or Afghanistan. We need to let the jurga folks run THEIR country and yes, provide a temporary stability to get them set up, instead of just bombing their wedding parties, and funerals.
It should also be remembered that Patton was not loved by all his men, like the ones he sent in prematurely and got blown up because he went too far too fast. I do agree with his comment that the job of the military is to make the OTHER GUY die for his country, not our troops die for ours. The problem is that nobody at home asked exactly what killing the other guy had to do with any of our folks actually dying for OUR COUNTRY, instead of corporate profits- again.
Patton would have rung the necks of Bush and Cheney, period.
