I used to know this young lady who was tone deaf. She played by music. A group of us musicians would get together and have a jam session, and she couldn’t do it because she didn’t recognize the keys or the changes.
Fink is right. The only family member who would have an answer is the guy and he is not likely to know if he has talent or not. Depends how many bars he got thrown out of before he either realized he had no talent or he actually leaned to play the thing.
