My son, as a teen, loved the week-long camp we sent him to so much he eventually became a camp counsellor. He earned $$$ doing something that he truly enjoyed … win, win!
In the US, there were more than repeats on TV during the summer. ‘The Prisoner’ came out as a summer-replacement show. Also, ‘Poldark’ the first series, ‘Seinfeld’, the 1966 version of ‘The Avengers,’ and more. I particularly remember ‘The Prisoner’ and ‘Poldark’ because they were aired in the afternoon and were usually on in the background when my friends and I were playing marathon games of Hearts.

This was an easier sell back in the pre-cable and pre-internet days. Summer tv was nothing but reruns so missing it wasn’t a big deal.
