Aw, Cāmon, Lalo! We know where your loyalties lie, but Youāre making a serious mistake serious slander here. Republicans have lots of flaws to exploit; Hillbilly Elegy is not one of them āitās a classic!
I didnāt view Hillbilly Elegy as even purporting itself to represent all people from Appalachia. I thot it was an in-depth look at how some of them had been horribly exploited and turned to drugs, despair, suicide, divorce, and surrender. I found it to be a deeply moving account of human suffering. At the time Vance wrote it, I figured he was expressing empathy for, and solidarity with, them. But by all accounts Vance has subsequently undergone some kind of sea change thatās had an even more dramatic effect on him than Bobby Juniorās brain worm had on him.

I would no more visit J D Vanceās home and sit on his couch than I would have dinner at the Portnoyās.
For the same reason.
