Clearly Betty and the cartoonists here have never really paid attention to Kamala Harris. Her word salads may be captivating, but for the reasons OPPOSITE of focus, inspire or transfix.
Literally everyone in the comments section is missing the question, which is, “Is captivating a gendered word?” It’s a reasonable question. I think, like “articulate” when used to describe a BIPOC person, it’s a word that’s doing a lot more than it admits to doing. Articulate about a black speaker means, “sounds like they went to a good college and doesn’t scare white people.” Captivating about a women means, presents herself nicely, dresses well, not bad looking, and oh, she also talks. It’s also possible that in this case captivating is the new articulate since most people know better than to use articulate these days.
Kamala is just being used as an example, it could be anyone.
I find her story captivating. She was a senator from California that almost no one had heard of. Four years ago she ran for president and did so poorly that she dropped out early. Then for some reason Biden chooses her for his running mate? And now unopposed by any Democrat she finds herself being a presidential candidate? What has she accomplished to get to this place?
I don’t see a problem with this one. Makes sense to me. What, you don’t like it because it celebrates Kamala a bit? Compare her to Trump. One rambles unintelligibly and then blurts lies—that’s Trump. Whereas Kamala is articulate, intelligent, and has deep experience that will help her as President. And she’s working for the average person—not for the tiny billionaire class.

Too bad there’s not a “thumbs down” button on comics….

I find that both candidates do a LOT of talking, but have little of substance in what they say.

I guess I get to strike another comic from my reading list. I needed to pare it down anyway.

A cartoonist is a fool to inject partisan politics into his strip. Then again Betty is a bossy anal b*tch.

If this degenerates into a Kamala cheering section I’ll have to unfollow.

Oh good grief. Enough. Dropping this cartoon. Kamala is the exact opposite when I have listened to her.
