I think that this is the last time Granpa is going to be seen in his body. The cycle is now complete for him.

runar : oh come on, now! Not such a bad pun, besides, that is one of Jim’s big charateristics… This just shows that, although he’s bed ridden, his spirits are still high!

Please, Lynn has showed us and hope that from now on when one relative or friend goes thru what grandpa Jim has gone, we remember that they still can hear, feel and think like a person and please, do not treat them as an object, stop, look and listen just like Lizardbreath has done it.

I believe you are right, certafyable – otherwise how would we have the pathetic tearjerker moment of Jim dancing with his first wife in spirit during the first waltz at the reception?

Oh did I say pathetic? I meant full-of-pathos. Boxcar! Yes.

The end for one….the beginning for another.

Why do cynical people re namenamename - bother to read sensitive or touching strips? Or do they do so just to have a forum to blurt out their insensitivity to build up their self-esteem and self importance.

Mowgli has it right. Don’t ever assume a loved one has completely left us. Grandpa Jim’s wry humor will always be a part of him.

I love Grandpa Jim’s random thoughts. He’s quite witty, even while bed ridden.

I have been reaqding FBOFW for a number of years a I just love the family. It seems so real to life. I love Granpa and I do hope he gets some better. Lynn has a wonders way of telling about the way a normal family lives.

I don’t know if any other fans agree but this week of strips on the wedding has me crying each time!

I’m so thankful for today’s strip. I thought I remembered L. Johnson saying when she “retired” the strip, everyone would remain the same age and that Grandpa Jim wouldn’t pass away. I pray my old memory is accurate! How sweet!

As my mom used to say: Jim’s got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

runar: As annoying as you people-who-don’t-like-the-comic-but-for-some-strange-reason-keep-reading-it can be, I agree with you. Often I think that the strip would be improved if Lynn stopped trying to find a gag everytime and just let the strip be a soap opera. In this example, try rereading it without the final panel.

BTW re namenamename: The original meaning of “pathetic” WAS “full of pathos”, nothing derogatory about it.

I just read on yahoo.com that the final comic is on Sunday with the return of Farley. How that will work, who knows…

Maybe Jim will be lying in his bed remembering this family when it was young…that is the transition to the new strip. Bring back Farley? Sweet!

I will miss this family chronicle enormously. However, I also understand Ms Johnston’s need to move along. I hope that eventually she decides to set the strip aside entirely and takes on a completely new project. Here’s to Farley, and all the gang!!

I am new to this. I am a strings music teacher and(a long time ago) saw an awesome FBOW strip that went as such…

The mother was commenting to the father, “I wish we would have kept after our kids to keep practicing. They could have become prodigys.” The father replied, “It’s the ones you don’t have to ask to practice that become the prodigys!” … or something like that. Can anyone help me find it? I would like to get permission to use it in my annual parent presentation at the start of each school year. Thanks!
