Comic strips are done weeks or even months in advance. Still, those first two panels are weirdly appropriate given the day this strip was published.

Most people in America remember what they were doing during 9/11 because of the terrorist attacks. Jon will remember it starting as the day Garfield stole Mrs. Feeny’s wig, pearl necklace, and heels; most likely not for the first time

Jim is very kind! He knew that atrocity would happen that day, and wanted to cheer us up after the fact. Good Guy Jim!
