Halloween used to be content with the massive surge in candy sales.
I guess since we all distrust our neighbors these days, so sending the kiddos out to Trick or Treat is… Far too dangerous? Might result in unsupervised fun? Involves forbidden goodies? Dunno. It’s all church parties and Trick or Treat at the mall. Which I guess cuts into the candy sales, and results in increased marketing to make up the lost ground. Also, roping in other culture’s traditions to ‘expand the base’.
It seems a heck of a lot harder than figuring out who on the block was handing out full size candy bars.
