Back in 1955 I could go to my neighborhood burger joint and get a large cheeseburger, fries, and a coke, all for a quarter. An ice cream desert was an extra nickel.
I started as a mechanic in 1979. In 2020 when I retired, factored for inflation I was making the same money. Everything else went way up, but not my pay. It wasn’t just me, many blue collar careers were the same if not worse.

And yet the fed min hourly wage has been set to $7.25 since 2008. Time to tie it to COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) like Social Security payments.

I remember when I was a kid, I could go to the store for a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread for under a dollar!

Wally World has gallon of milk for about $3 and loaf of bread for about $1.50. Still get change from $5 (but probably only couple of cents after tax).
