Religious dietary laws for the most part were made in response to sickness and diseases that were thought to be food born. With the advent of refrigeration and the advances in science we now know how to pin point, combat and prevent food born illnesses but religious beliefs die hard, especially dietary laws that no longer make sense. If those who believe pork is bad and pigs are dirty animals but that was all they had to eat you can bet the house they will be chomping down on some Chinese spare ribs. Then we have the Christians who practice rituals that includes symbolic cannibalism, that is some really weird stuff.
