Man, imagine if Lbj hadn’t escalated the stupid Vietnam war. No Nixon. Without Nixon, no stagflation so no Reagan. Without Reagan, no skyrocketing inequality. Without Nixon impeachment, no 50 year vendetta against Hillary. Maybe we’d have already had the first woman president. Okay, that’s not realistic… sigh.

It wasn’t anything resembling a ‘concept of a plan’. It was a flat out LIE, something that became a Republican core principle. It was followed up by Treason, in the form of sabotaging efforts to end the war.

Treason surfaced again when efforts to get Iran to return hostages were sabotaged, again by Republicans.

And lately, Treason has become more open and direct with Trump collaborating with Putin to win the election, then rewarding Putin with top secret [sensitive] information, taking sides with Putin against our intelligence, and taking sides with Putin against Ukraine, along with weakening NATO and unilaterally puling out of treaties in order to weaken America’s position vs. Russia.

    .

Not to mention the violent attempt to overthrow the government of the United States.

You gotta wonder if any Trump Disciples — the ones who said Biden was too old and had declined mentally to the point he could no longer function — have been watching any parts of Their Messiah’s current rallies.

And especially, it they can admit what it is that everyone can see.

    .

For magats who want to contradict what everyone sees, do you want some verbatim transcripts?

Ahh the ’68 convention when they nominated Humphrey. There was real convention, it meant something, unlike 2024.

(sigh) And if Humphrey won, Nixon would have conceded. He wouldn’t have tried to stay in power using violence.

DJT has a concept of winning the election and like most concepts, it’ll end up in the trash can.

On the latest DMZ the fellas interviewed Libertarian Party candidate. The piece got off to a bit of a DA start with their typical Bemoaning of the Lack of Viable Third-Party Candidates. As usual, the geniuses never address the problem of third parties when a major party candidate aligns with nutter parties. That happens, too, right Israel?: Chase Oliver is a decent enough guy with some practical ideas with which I don’t necessarily agree. He wants to wean younger people off the social security system. He shows no practicality with the budget, where he says he would not sign a spending bill that was not balanced. I can assure you that trying to balance the budget in one year is a recipe for an immediate recession. Anyway, worth a listen once you move past Ted Rall’s petulance.

And don’t forgot George Wallace, who siphoned off votes from the Democrats and cost them the election.

Carmen forgot to mention George Wallace posing a serious 3rd party challenge during the 1968 election. He had enough support in the South to win 5 states. The south at the time was still heavily Democratic, so Wallace’s spoiler role may have made a difference.

The secret plan was Kissinger telling Ho, all through the ‘60s, that if he kept the war going until a Republican got elected they’d get a better deal. 2 Presidents from each party screwed up the war with a disastrous lack of exit plan. Yes, history rhymes.

In 1968 LBJ did not “drop out of the race”, he refused to run. There were primaries and a convention to nominate Humphrey. Vietnam grew from advisers sent by Eisenhower to full combat under LBJ. It was a noble cause that was made a quagmire by corruption, greed, career chasers, and political hacks. Nixon promised to get the U.S. out of Vietnam, and won election. He made certain not to get us out until he was re-elected in 1972. Many of us served in Vietnam really believing to Free the Oppressed. Most served as reluctant draftees, but served our Nation. The tragedy of Vietnam, all our dead heroes, are due to disgusting leadership in the South and the U.S.

Everything I’ve learned about Trump can be summed up by one comment by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who reportedly said:

“Going to Mar-a-Lago is a little bit like going to North Korea. Everybody stands up and claps every time Trump comes in.”

    Although further on,

“Graham is quoted as saying that Biden won the 2020 election “fair and square,” but “Trump doesn’t like to hear that.””

“A Trump supporter and “golfing buddy”, Graham has tried to give the GOP nominee advice for his 2024 campaign, writes Woodward in his book, War.”

““You’ve got a problem with moderate women. The people that think that the earth is flat and we didn’t go to the moon, you’ve got them. Let that go,” he is said to have told Trump after the midterm elections.”"

“Graham urged Trump not to dwell on his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election, telling him that if he returns to the White House “then January 6 won’t be your obituary.””

“Trump allegedly called Graham a few days later to proudly exclaim: “I gave a speech today and I only mentioned the 2020 election twice!””

    (sigh)

Nixon’s ‘secret plan’ was to drop a nuclear bomb Hanoi. However there was so much anti war protest in the USA they decided not to do it.

McGovern offered to end the war but people did not vote for him.
