Calvin is just like the American electorate of today - it’s all about ME! With the attitude that you, as a polititian, need to get stuff for ME or, by God, we’ll vote you out. Unfortunately, our polititians are not like Calvin’s dad and can’t seem to say NO. We’ll be paying for that incompetence for a very long time.
Perhaps calvin will learn …in time…that parenthood is not a democracy…it’s a tyranny
~~~
Well not quite a tyranny but we did have little say. We were told umpteen times a day, “When you’re a grown up you can make your own decisions but while you live here (or under MY roof) you will do what we say!”
Calvinator, that’s why the Democrats are in power.
and why the republicans will be back in power before very long (in life terms, not political terms). it’s why we constantly seem to go from having one party in power to having another party run things. people get annoyed that the powers that be aren’t giving them what they want, so they vote for change
and out come the religious and political nuts and one way streets. Is there no place we can just enjoy some childish fun without being inundated with childish attempts at pseudo-intellectualism?
Calvin and Hobbes is an incredibly accurate protrayal of any parent who has reared children. I think Watterson hid out in our closet for several years. Go C & H!!
Found myself wondering just WHO might qualify as the “Perfect New Dad” in Calvin’s warped little mind. Suspect he would be a perfect blend of many great ingredients. Here’s some possibilities….
Socrates
General Custer
Batman
Jesus
Spock
Einstein
Frankenstein
James Bond
Attila the Hun
Ronald McDonald
King Midas
Okay, I’ll admit I was “trolling” when I posted the democrat comment earlier to see what kind of response it would generate. Frankly, I was not expecting the venomous response it elicited. It seems to have struck quite a nerve. This tells me this has happened before but I have not been here long enough to have witnessed it. I apologize for my comment. I did not mean to hijack C&H.
had to go to work or i would have answered sooner. i am not trying to be political (the earlier comment). i’m not even american, though i have enjoyed visiting many times. i was merely trying to point out that what goes around comes around and my opinion as to why. never intended to annoy anyone as i’m really just an overgrown kid myself.
I love Dad’s reaction. Or should I say non-reaction? Calvin has no way to turn this into a power struggle. Would that more fathers were this wise.
Thus ends another attempt at bringing in democracy and transparency at home. Let’s go back to playing with Hobbes, shall we, Calvin?
Gonna be a barrel of laughs!
Keep working at it, get Hobbes” input and go at it again tomorrow. Maybe you can wear him down before you’re 30.
I like to think of it as a benevolent dictatorship.
Clearly, Calvin will realize that the path to righteousness leads to his own bed where he can meditate his sins while clutching Hobbes to his bazoom.
Thanks DoctorToon: Calvin is funny because he’s outrageous, but harmless. What a vivid imagination that character has.
