I seldom go into Walmart. Mrs wanted some things so we went in, filled a cart. There were no cashiers, everything is self check out, that means also self bagging. Bagging I don’t mind. Checking myself out I do. I get no discount and I am not an employee. So why should I. We left the entire cart sitting in the isle and went to a different store. Found everything we needed along with friendly staff to scan every item as well as bagging.
Our WM had mostly self checkout, but took them out to control theft. It’s apparently less expensive to pay people to work there than the money being lost to theft. In addition they have a lot of things locked up, with electronic keys that staff have on special cell phones. The upside of that is more people have a key to help you, the downside is the “key” has to be electronic, and it doesn’t always work.
we prefer self checkout for all sorts of reasons. one, it’s faster. two, you don’t have to deal with a cashier who’s having a bad day. you also don’t have to wait for the person ahead now checking out to painfully slowly count out all the coins in his coin purse. and then start counting out bills one at a time. and then get confused about the amount. again. and then start organizing his groceries in his bag while everyone behind him waits. we have to bring our own bag anyway (stores charge for bags these days), so nobody’s packing a bag for us in any case (what a waste of manpower). that said, it isn’t a major problem if there’s no self checkout…
After the 1st or 2nd swipe I would have called for assistance. Sonetimes people who are already aggravated will do anything they can to intensify their aggravation even more!!!

I won’t use self checkout. I prefer to deal with a human being.

Why leave some human contact in our lives? At least with live cashiers, you can ask them to get someone to help you go look for an item.
