My family, as I have mentioned is Jewish. My mom’s parents were immigrants to the USA. But they wanted to belong and do what Americans do (1930s). So they went to (the main) Macy’s store with mom (a very little girl at the time) to see Santa.
Mom was sitting on Santa’s lap. Santa asked her what she wanted for Christmas. She replied “I’m not a goy.” (Goy being a Yiddish word for a non-Jew.) Santa replied to her “No,no, I called you a girl, not a boy.” At this point my grandparents grabbed my mom and ran with her.

Merry Christmas?

Trust me, Gracie: “Santa” knows it’s worth it. After all, it’s never been about him.

“Santa” probably was working their buns off to keep food on the table and afford the socks.

Santa got a union, which improved working conditions, hours, holidays off, and wages!

We had fun with the story of Santa but I’m glad my folks didn’t expect us to actually believe it. But I’m glad pretending was part of the fun, too.

It is what you need. One year son knitted for me booties – hand made. Love them and still have them.

Santa works just as hard but he has a union that got him a raise and better working conditions.
