I was curious about the reality behind this story. SPOILERS!
2006: Malibuās reputation as an unwelcoming place for the general public has grown in recent years. Security guards patrolled the sands to scare off anyone who came too close to celebritiesā homes, while Geffen waged a long court battle against opening a public-access walkway next to his multilot megamansion. Geffen lost that battle. Since last May, the public can enjoy daytime access to āBillionairesā Beach,ā as mile-long Carbon Beach is called, from the new walkway off the Pacific Coast Highway.
In 2002, Trudeau makes the point that even when the justice system finds in favor of a non-wealthy person, they can be denied their remedy. In 2024, 22 years later, we see it again where we the non-wealthy public had to watch a convicted sexual offender be found guilty on the one hand and given no sentence for his crimes. I should not be surprised though. The Black community has said this frequently happens under the white radar of social awareness.
So now all that had burned to the ground, the best thing they can do is leave it open, take eminent domain and make it public. Iāll miss Gladstoneās though, loved that sourdough!
