I’d walk into the back, take a deep breath & walk out out to tell the customer we didn’t have any. We might’ve, but I wasn’t interested in looking.

There is a tradition in retail biz that if you have to actually work in the back to look for aProduct…….just say we don’t have any!!!

Once upon a time that actually worked. If they weren’t too busy you could ask and they would often go in the back room and get it for you. Nowadays with just-in-time stocking there isn’t any back room storage area, just a few boxes that arrived today and haven’t been opened and put on the shelves yet.

Future historians will list just-in-time as one of the reasons our civilization collapsed, but that hasn’t happened yet, so enjoy civilization while you can….
