Made a purchase years ago and gave the clerk my card. It wouldn’t go thru!! Turned out to be my phone card which was a thing back in the dark ages when there were pay phones.
Way back in the day when banks first installed ATMs I was in line behind an elderly couple that were trying to withdraw $20. They typed in 2 then 0, the screen showed $0.20, and they didn’t know what to do next. I blame the programmers of the ATM. If you can only withdraw multiples of $20, why provide an interface where you can type in and nonsensical random numbers such as $12.34?

My first two credit cards were Penney’s (for stuff) and Gulf (for gas).

I handed over my card to a cashier to pay for a purchase and he gave me a puzzled look. Seems you can’t use your drivers license to pay for pizza.
