Speaking as the owner of a very playful, rascally cat, I can assure you that not all of them want to trip you.

She just has a way of being in the exact place where I need to go.

Because she follows me like a shadow, whenever I’m doing something, I tend to shoo her, which only makes it worse. Instead of being close to my feet, she ends up in front of them.

In fact, she just switched off my computer as I was about to type this. I really need to get a case without the power button on top.

In my experience, no cat actually wants to trip you, as it’s generally not fun for them either. They just have a tendency to have poor judgement on where to sit themselves that’s also out of the way.

Back when bell bottoms was in style… My sister in law loved them…my cat love to go for them as she walked by.. just closed enough for him to snag them… and send her she had to go was to walk you would think she should be use to it…. think it was a game.. for them….

Mine think it is so cozy to sleep on the stair steps which they blend in with so well.

OK, since you put up a trip wire, you are trying to trip her.

Cats that run across in front of your ankles to get your attention don’t have to be black to be bad luck.
