The very thought of that never-ending stupidity irritates my somewhat!

Did Marco discover anything? He, his father, and uncle were merchants who may have traveled to China (which no one from Europe had done in a long time – at least that we know about) and made it back. How far they really got isn’t clear. Marco published a book that was accepted as 100% accurate for centuries. Some now suspect he didn’t go quite as far, or do quite as much as he claims but his family did a lot of talking with other merchants while there were in Asia and Marco picked up some of their stories to flesh out his account and make himself look more important than he really was. He would not have been the first writer to do so. Certainly not the last.
