    My last company had thought it was going to let everyone remain remote. Everyone brought home their stuff from the office and the rule was that if you did go into the office, you didn’t have a permanent office anymore. You took whatever you wanted. Then they went hybrid and kept the same arrangement. Now they want everyone back in the office. I wonder if they’ll start assigning offices and desks again. So far, different groups seem to have staked out areas for themselves.

    This discussion seems to be mixing up two situations: 1. people in the private sector who took advantage of liberal work-at-home policies who are told to return to the office when those policies were changed; and 2. federal government employees who were fired by Musk and then asked to come back because it turns out that their jobs are actually very important. Apples and oranges.
