This would make a good poltical cartoon with a few minor changes…
Dad = Uncle Sam
Lio = Dubya
The Squid = Wall Street
That last panel looks like the setup to an old joke. I can just imagine the following dialogue:
Counter man: “Gee, we don’t get a lot of squids in here.”
Squid: “At these prices, I’m not surprised.”

To Oldlegodad71: I wouldn’t call lazy any cartoonist who does TWO high-quality daily strips (Lio and Heart of the City, in case you didn’t know).
