Margueritem:
Back when I used to have hangovers, whether it was martinis, scotch, or beer, every one was a near-death experience. Any nuances of agony were totally lost.
Thank goodness, I haven’t had one in many years and don’t plan to have one ever again.
Both the best and worst hangovers I ever had were from red wine. I’ve NEVER had a hangover from Champagne, though.
Spirits (particularly tequila) don’t necessarily give me particularly bad hangovers, but they make for problematic drunks. I can’t even SMELL tequila anymore without feeling sick…
Nowadays, I just stick with Guinness. I metabolize it well; and I can maintain a nice, mellow drunkenness without hangovers, puking, or bloating (unlike ditchwater American mass-market Pilsners). Besides, Guinness Gives You Strength!
Gin hangovers are supposed to be the worst. Can anyone verify this?……….. Yes Marg, I can verify that. Inferior gin is brutal to the body and can cause the stomach lining to bleed. I recommend something on par with Bombay and most importantly, in MODERATE amounts.
My experience traveling in the old west in my time in the states, tequila packs a wallop. One girlfriend who was very straight and not at all big, easily picked me up and carried me to the bedroom of the hotel room we were using for our partying after many shots of the stuff. The tequila had most definitely excited her previously unremarked adventurous side! :D

The free gin was a success, which means the hotel reservations will turn into a total debacle. At least Donna got some compliments out of it.
