well guys. lets see what is for breakfast. how about fried eggs, tost milk, oj, cranapple juice, and some grits? does that sound okay? well i am about to beet me a child who is still up at 12:18 my time. lord help me. her mother is s c r e wing me over. sigh. wish me luck i am wiped out.
I miss the last story line. I thought that still looked promising. Hopefully the bear will get to see the lady again. As for this story arc, I just see Dusty being carried around a lot. I don’t this Paris will survive her time with him.
Good morning everyone!! Have great days today!
tabby glad you made it through the graduation without tripping. And while it may be the last time you got to hug your teachers, you can now hug them as your friends.
ok, so looking at my first post, I’ve been sitting here reading comics for about an hour. Now that’s it time for me to get ready for work my boy cat decides he wants to sleep on my lap. Not only that he kneads my leg for the first time. How can I disturb that kind of love?
So which work does Dusty like? Kinda scary me thinks!
Mornin’ all!tabby That was a lot of work when you’re probalby still up after graduation. I’ll have a little of everything. I agree with Akenta that you can now treat your teachers as friends. It sounded like you had a good start on that.
Oh, and Akenta & DocT, I just assume the guy at that other site was buying a gift. MUCH easier to enjoy Tabby’s lucious fixin’s.
doctortoon nuclear coffee is my life. A large mug of steaming brew is what kicks off another day in paradise. As I am posting this an owl is hooting just outside my window. Pretty cool and pretty dark out there.
Salaam everyone I already had breakfast but I take some coffee, maybe it would give the needed energy to go to work. I don’t know about nuclear coffee. that seems to be a little over the top for me.
Thanks Akenta and Drystyha for catching me up on the new administration and some of what I missed on yesterday’s page 3. TODAY my filter didn’t like the Calvin & Hobbes page, so maybe you can figure out what triggers it. It is a bot filter, and to get it to release a page, I have to request a human at the filtering company to review it and if it passes their standards, they’ll release it. Kind of a pain, but with 3 males in the house, including 2 geeks, its the best for our family.
If y’all are wondering why the different avatar today, read my comment at Lio.
Before I forget and the tribe sends out a search party, on Friday & Saturday & Sunday, I’ll be scarce. I’ll probably pop in a little, but I’ve got to do some errands on Friday & Saturday that will keep me away from home most of the day. Sunday is church & family, so not as much computer time, either.
Greetings Programs!
.
Congrats Tabby on a successful graduation! Did you have any jokers during the ceremony? One of my sons wore his full spiderman outfit underneath his robes and did the open the chest thing right after getting his diploma :D
Poor Dusty, after that bimbo parades you around for a couple of days, she’ll kick you to the curb.
Good Morning All!Tabby, I’m happy everything went well for you last night. Do you still have Ana?
I’m doing housework, I’ll be poking back in here when I can.
P and L.
I’m back!! Boo hiss, you are all muttering back at me.
Yes doctortoon I am not sure how I will react to all this alone time. My sweetie and I are together most of the time so 5 days is going to seem like an eternity. I am depending on the tribe for company and support over this trying time. LOL
carmy caught the comment you were referring to and you did fine. Some people get so riled up and feel slighted if someone dares have a differing opinion.
Carmy i still have Ana. i am trying to catch up on the comments. She is sitting in the chair and i smiled at her, so she tells me “i mad at you.” i asked her “why baby?” and she chuckles and says “cause you smiled at me.” what am i going to do? lol we were up till 1am. intresting as ever and back up at 9 i may have a black eye from her about 8 this morning. she slamed her head on my face. 2times. lol
*DF, I agree with what you said and wish there were more doctors like that too.
I’m sorry but with the military doctors, it often seems like they think you are trying to scam them them or something. My husband is active duty and when he gets sick they just push the Motrin. They never really bother to see what the problem is. He broke his ankle a couple of years ago, they never even casted it. It looks weird and still gives him problems sometimes.
He’s afraid they will make it worse if he complains.
Yes, I agree about the immediate anger at anyone with a different opinion. People take it personally, and then respond personally with an attack. Sad, really. That what dialogue and conversation is all about: being exposed to different opinions and values and thoughts, and maybe considering some of them for yourself.
i guess it is kind of like cute. idk how to explain it. its just something we have always said. country think i guess. we say “sha baby” “well me sha” and things like that.
she was asleep when she hit me. she sleeps like a wild child (her nick name)
Carmy she sleeps like that every night with her mom. with me she is normaly good, she was starting to wake up and they all gave her tons of sugar yesterday so that could also be it.
you said earler about her paying me. she does pay me, BUT i get $10 less the the reg babysitter every day. sucks. but i should get the normal amount bc i have had her every day this week. i get payed on sunday or friday, depends on when she gets paied.
you know, I paid a membership fee for this website and I just noticed Barkeater Lake updated. It’s supposed to be in my daily collection, but it never shows up. PMO! :-/
Good Morning to: Akenta, tabbylynn, margueritem, JFri, Story Teller, gmartin997, cleokaya, doctortoon, dcguys, Drystyha, Nozzi,
DigitalFrog, carmy, bmonk, and any other tribe member I missed!
Doc - it’s e-slang for owned - when somebody really gets a good hit on someone else, either verbally, or in online game play. There is a thought that it originally stemmed from somebody mistyping and hitting ‘p’ instead of ‘o’, it just caught on and stuck like the phrase “All your base are belong to us”
Yeah, doc I think I’ll stick to tribe in the future, it is a lot less work! (I made me a cheat sheet so I could remember how to spell each name, and copied & pasted, but it still took time to add the codes to boldface.)
D.F. how do you know these things? we do need a roster sheet. lol Rmom i dont even try anymore, i say Tribe or tell the ones who i know are on Hi. lol its easer.
doc speaking of Corey, I wonder if he had some kind of breakdown? I know he broke his leg or foot or something, but that last story arc was really bizarre!
Tabby I am a recovering WoW-aholic. Used to play 20+ hours a week but went off computer games entirely last August, except for the occasional Nintendo game with my kids.
Yes, we certainly have grown! From me & Joy, to me, Joy, & JFri, then we added Doc and tabby, then I think carmy was next, then along came Cleo, and on we go!
It was a fine morning for bike riding in north central AZ this AM. Light ESE winds kept things nice and cool. Tomorrow morning the same conditions will prevail, so get out there early, and ride!
Kayak report: Winds are due to kick up this afternoon, so it’s best to get out there now.
Hiking: Is also excellent today. Again, early is best, because ol’ Sol is getting mighty hot during the day.
Fauna report: The young rattlers are crossing the roads at inopportune times, and I passed several squashed ones this morning. Keep an eye out for the little critters if you can. They keep the rodent population down.
Flora Report: The wild flowers are looking good, in spite of no rain. The mariposa lilies were in bloom this past week, and lovely little things they are.
The WoW thing got me reminiscing a little bit, so here’s a glimpse of the “real” me, in my WoW halloween costume available for a limited time only:

*DF* Andy must be very good natured! Those photos were a hoot!
And where was that beautiful shot taken. That certainly does look like a place to relax!
Dry - WoW is World of Warcraft, a highly addictive online massive multiplayer role playing game (MMORPG).
.
Marg Yes, Andy was a real fun guy, I checked with him frequently to make sure he was OK with the pictures, his personal favorite was where he’s choking the leader of the Canadian Liberal party.
The other photo used to be my desktop at work, it was taken at a hotel in Florida.
jfri i cant seem to remember the job you gave me yesterday… im such a ding bat it is not even funny. so what was it and what am i supposed to do?? oh and Marg that was a great report.
and Doc you are wise to avoid WoW if you think you might get addicted. I know of cases where it has caused serious RL issues, contributed to marriage breakups, etc. It is just too easy to get sucked into spending all your free time there.

~Not at all like the comics, where we can leave any time we want, right?
RRAmom I just went back & checked. yes gmartin did show up here. He/she gives a hard time all the time. Maybe they have decided to ignore our “chattiness”! Or maybe they see what wonderful people we are and want to join up! :-D
Marg and Dry thanks i must have skiped that some how, about Jfri wonder where that pirate and Joy are at…. whos going to lock him up if Jfri is not here?
So the lovely Ana is taking a nap…. Do you know what that means??? that means by for now. im going get about an hour of sleep. then we are going play outside and burn off some energy she will gain back form sleeping. ill be back later on. P&L
Phew! I just made it through all the post since I left to help my wife prepare for her trip. I made salsa, Pickled red onions. I loaded up her friends car, who came to pick my wife up. I’m a bit worried though. On the way over here a truck flung a rock and cracked the windshield from top to bottom and side to side and made a crack rectangle with a dimension of about 8”x12’ that could pop out if hit. I’ll be glad when she gets to her destination which is about 5 hours away on the southern coast of WA.
Cleo dont worry she’ll be fine we will pray for her.
so my nap didnt happen. ana was coughing somuch she threw up. yep yummy. i had to bathe her and she threw up about 4 times. her mom thinks she is allergic to something over here. what am i going to do now? sigh. and i have her eatting crackers and drinking gatoraide. i must go check on her dont know when i will be back. later
tabyy I am certainly no doctor, but I don’t believe people throw when they are allergic to something. You have trouble breathing, or itchy watery eyes, or you get hives, or a rash, or your throst closes up depending on the severity of the allergy. Anybody have any comments? Sounds more like an intestnal bug to me. Now is when her mother should be taking over. It’s not your responsiblity to take care of a sick child. I know you love her, but enough is enough!
I’ve heard of vomitting being the result of an allergic reaction but have not experienced it personally.
BTW is Ask Tabby open for business…if so here you go.
Dear Tabby –
My 17-year old daughter can barely make it through her classes without calling home to check on her cactus. She brought it back when we were on vacation last summer and has nursed it to the point where baby cacti have sprouted in the pot around it. She even comes home for lunch. School is 20 minutes away and she only has a 30 minute lunch. I’m afraid she’s going to miss graduation. What kind of advice would you give her?
Dry: Thanks. I should also report that the Dust Devils are prevelent this time of year, and one just went through our back yard. Stuff was flying everywhere!
Tabby I agree also. Sounds like she ate something that didn’t agree with her but not an allergy, more likely bacterial (and not necessarily your cooking, she could have picked up anything and stuck it in her mouth) or she may have a flu type illness. Gatorade was a good call, if she’s throwing up or got the runs, it’s important to keep her hydrated and her electrolytes up. If she is running a fever at all, she should probably see a Dr.
Dry, Marg, and DF i called her mother. she is at work and said that it is my house. what the heck? she needs to take her to the doc. i took her temp and she dosent have a fevor. just changed a bad green (icing on cake last nihgt) (tmi i know, but heck cleo runs around in his bday suite and were okay so why not)dyper.
i think her allergies are acting up she is stoped up and all of that. idk what it is, but i am tired of always having her when she sick.
D.F that was a very mean joke to dcguys question. now on to that.

From a concerned childless father
okay so the last line got me…. the childless father line… what do you mean??
i had no clue that this would be such a job.. now if im good at it then i may have a carrer in it.
I am not sure what to tell you to do about it. lets see. is she allowed to have a phone at school? if so you can take a pic. of it and send it to her at school (on her lunch break) if you live 20 min from school and the lunch is 30 min the that means she is rushing to get there and back. how old is she? waite you have had said, yep you did she is 17 so that means your still her boss. so tell her she is not allowed to leav school to come home and check on a plant. yes it will be hard and she may hate you for it, but if it is in her best intrest then go for it. how are her grades? is she making good grades in school? why are you conserned about her failing? grades or lateness or other? if it is grades then most deffently keep her from going home. have to school stop her from leaving. i would be po if my father did this to me, but if it needs to be done then do it. let me know if this helps any… if not sorry.
tabbylynn I think the symptoms sound like the flu to me as well. I agree that the mom should be concerned and taking over the responsibility here. What is your relationship to this child? I missed it. Are you her baby sitter?
Cleo she is my baby cousin. I babysit when the regular babysitter is out of town, has another job to do, or just dosent have time to watch her. my nanny (godmother/aunt) gives her to me. insted of giving ana to her godmother. i am only going to do this a few more months once i start collage i quite. i was just talking to my dad about all of that. i will babysit over the summeer and work with him also. so i can have money for school. i am only putting up with this for a few more months.
of course now you guys show up. just when i need to start cooking, and while im trying to keep the kid on the potty chair. lol not working. how do you potty train a hard headed 2 1/2 year old? yes i know it is supposed to be Ask Tabby but i am lost with this one.
Ask Tabby - I’ll try your suggestions & write back to give you a progress update next month. We have another semester here, so we’ll have time to work on this.
Tribemates - Dry & DigiFrog are correct. This was just a prank to see if I could add to the substance of the community w/o an office. Thank you but no thank you.* I don’t want an office, but I’ll report on events as I’m able.
I think Ask Tabby has the right counselor. Passionate, experienced but with a new perspective, and most of all…
let’s see if I can type this fast enough to be 151…
DFrog thanks for the links. I enjoyed the song and the picture. I did try WoW for the 10 day free trial. I made a couple of my EQ friends try it to so I wouldn’t miss them. One of them decided he liked it better than EQ :-( I did enjoy the game and could probably really like it, but I’ve already spent so much time in EQ, I don’t think I could part with all the characters I’ve created. Sadly, I don’t have as much time as I used to for playing, and this new addiction isn’t helping :-)
I’m back for now, tribe. We’re finished with school for the day. I’ll probably be popping in & out for the evening, between my other responsibilities.
tabbylynn, I’d say the mom needs to take over and take the baby to the doctor. She might end up taking her to an allergist, but my guess is that it is NOT allergies, but something viral or bacterial.
Rmom her mom is still at work i have had her every day this week and all but one night. i am going crazy. ill tell her to take her to the doc but will probley do no good. poor baby. well i am off to cut up so pottatoes. bbl
tabby my day was ok - just the same old work day. But it’s Thursday and tomorrow’s Friday. Got Survivor tonight so I’m hoping it will be good. Hope Ana feels better.
I’m not so sure, Drystyha, I’ve often been called (usually a self-reference) an “Unwed Father”… ;-)
And maybe he’s a stepfather? Then he could be, if you squint your eyes sideways, a childless father…
@Tabbylynn, my sisters would suggest duct tape for potty training the 2 1/2 year old, but they’re really not that cruel. They only get that way when I ask,
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?”
(repeat until they lose it.)
I hope you get a break from the babysitting. They are cute and loving, for the most part, but it’s the parents’ responsibility first. And I’d definitely consider asking for the extra $10 today with all the extra worry and bother. Especially if you end up doctoring her as well. Above and beyond the call of babysitting.
cleokaya says: DigF and here I thought that you were a frog.
.
I’m a bit of a chicken frog. On the poison arrow frog scale, think of me as the chocolate flavored nerf dart frog. :()¦
tabby the mom may be at work, but the baby is still her responsibility. She can call the doctor, get his/her recommendation on what to do. She can take off work to take her child to the doctor, or go to one of the “immediate care” or clinics open during her off hours.
I might have a lot of advice on parenting to share, but potty-training was the hardest! I refuse to get an inside dog, just because I had so much trouble getting my boys housebroken. I do hear girls are usually easier in that department, so hopefully it won’t be as hard for you with this one.
Tabby: What does the mother do that you have to watch the baby at night? Surely she doesn’t work all day and all night?
I glad that you talked to your Dad about helping him, and continuing to sit for just the summer. You need time to concentrate on your studies in the fall. :-)
As to potty training: The poop part was easy. I sat her on the toilet on her potty seat and read to her right after she ate. The urine part was harder. Hardest of all was staying dry over night. That took a long time. Regular underwear helped with the urinating. Kids don’t like feeling all soggy, so they learn quick. Training pants and diapers keep them too comfortable.
Rmom her mom is not the smartest color in the box. she didnt take Ana to the doc win she busted her lip open. she plays around till the last min to do anything. its crazy.
the dog thing was great. they say girls are easer, but they say the smart ones are hardder. Ana is realy bleeep smart. she knows her ABCDs as she calls them. she was about 1 and a few months when she learnrd them. she can count to ten in spanish and about 20 in english. she does alot of things like remembers stuff. its cool and scary at the same time. and oh the questions she ask. wow.
Marg the little rat stays dry all night. when we wake up and put her on the potty she will go sometimes. but her mom gives up and puts a dyper back on and then BAM she pottys. got to love it.
her mom works at super one she is a manger of some sorts. (?) some days she has to be at work for 6 others for 5 then some days shell go in at 3pm and work till midnight. its crazy. no set schedual. so if she has to be to work early, ill keep her bc i dont want to get up at 3 or 4 to get her.
Now that I am a bachelor again, albeit for five days, I can eat whenever I want, I don’t have gardening chores that I am told need to be done. I am essentially a free man and can do whatever my mood strikes me to do. So, why do I wish my sweetie were here. This is a great exercise in appreciating what you have. As the song goes,”You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.”
Wow, you all have covered almost everything under the sun. In regards to potty training. The first daughter took awhile to get it. Her younger sisters were easier to train as they wanted to be like their big sister and not wear pampies.
@tabby, I’m a few years older than doctortoon, if that helps. They call me a baby boomer, but I never really felt like one; a bit too young for most of the pivotal moments like, “Where were you when JFKennedy died?” or “Do you remember Woodstock?”
Cleo, my husband is in the Navy and he is out at sea a lot. When he is gone I have to add yard work, vehicle maintenance, house repairs, etc. to my usual workload. I even have my own toolbox. It hasn’t happened in some time but, there was a time that as soon as he left some major problem would pop up. That was so not fun.
Marg I did not see the group of emeralds, either! And frankly, when I got back on here, I thought, what is marg’s new avatar? Coudn’t figure it out! LOL
Doc is going to love how we are comparing “old” to him. lol
Marg what can i say i like to sleep. she is my dads sister. my moms family hates me bc i didnt go to a furnel. (surgs shoulders)
Carmy i tried telling her, that if she didnt potty in her pants she could be like tabby and mommy and the list went on and on. she said something about wanting to be Ana. it was so cute that i had to walk away. kids. sigh also, i am the “fix it person” over here, when something goes wrong it is “tabby go do this tabby go do that.” i am the plumer, (only w/o the butt crack sticking out) the house keeping, the “mom” and anything else.
Survivor is over and they finally got rid of the person I’ve wanted out for the longest time. I still don’t like any of the remaining people, but only one more show to go. pookid also watches this (I think), but I don’t remember seeing him on today.
tabby I am SO glad you don’t have plumber’s crack! Not too long ago, my hubby & I were in a restaurant, and one female patron’s crack was showing. It was difficult to have an appetite with that view.
Rmom i hate seeing peoples butts. its so grose. i dont wear hip huggers or low ride pants mine go where it is safe to sit down and noone see any butt. lol
so go check out close to home now. i probley asked for it, but he was starting to realy tick me off.
tabby Thanks for sticking up for the tribe over at CTH. I thought about saying that we get thirsty with all this chatting, so water holes are popular with us.
BMonk If you remember woodstock, you weren’t really there ;-)
.
RMom - Avatar is up to you, but probably after the toons cycle, nobody would understand why you have that one.
Carmy i wish i was tired, but for some reason my body hates me and is more awake now then it was all day long. and i have to get up early and get Ana again. this week is never going to end. i need to move out. that is all there is to it.
Glad to hear that, tabby.
Hey carmy, I’m starting to find out what not having a husband around a lot feels like. Mine took a job over a year ago in a town 90 minutes away. We finally bought a used 5th wheel for him to live in there. He comes home on weekends, and whenever he has to go to a vendor or customer (at the beginning or end of a day) which is closer to where we live than his office. Sure enough, we’ve had plumbing problems, and he’s always handled them in the past. Thankfully, he’s home more than if he was in the service. But it hasn’t been too bad because now that our kids are old enough (& responsible enough) to leave home alone, I can visit him there, and we don’t have our usual chaperones!
dig that frog - how do you like my new nickname for you?
Thanks for the feedback. I’ll probably change it sometime tomorrow. I don’t think I’m going to be like doc and have a different one each week. But my hubby sent the pic in an email he received, and that was the best way I could think of to share it with the tribe.
@tabbylynn (and everyone else who is interested), “old” is fifteen years more than you are. OTOH, it will take at least five years to get used to the age you are now.
RRAmom, I was napping (I think) when JFK was shot.
marg & carrmy have not heard from her yet. It has turned into a beautiful day here. I wandered around the yard doing a plant inspection. You can almost watch the plants grow.
bmonk I don’t remember the JFK news either, just something else unusual that happen to have happened on the same day.
I will admit to being old NOW! (I keep telling my sons that they have to do work this old lady can’t do anymore.) I’ve never tried to lie about my age because 1) too many people know the truth about my age, since I grew up in this area, and 2) I’d rather have people say I look good for my age, than to have them think I look like __ for my age.
Since I don’t have a TV, except for watching videos, I feel so lost when you mention certain shows. I gave up TV when I got together with my wife. I went from having every channel to none and aside from certain sporting events, I was surprised how easy it was to go cold turkey.
RMom lol@new nick name for me. Wasn’t there a frog mascot for some cereal called Dig’em?
.
As to age, it’s interesting how close we all are in age. If I remember correctly, I’m less than year younger than DocT so most of us appear to be within about a 5 year span. I usually just hint about my age by saying I remember new episodes of Star Trek.
Good night, Akenta! I’ll be signing off pretty soon myself.
cleo we don’t have tv here either. Didn’t bother to upgrade to digital, because we hardly ever watched anything that didn’t come on a DVD or a VHS. Especially now that we have broadband, I can watch the video clips on news story that I’m interested in, when it is convenient for me. I think I haven’t watched any tv on a regular basis for probably more than a decade. The programs got worse, and even if the program was okay, the commercials are disgusting.
Yes, digitalfrog I think there was a cereal with a frog that said “dig ‘em” or something like that. I guess I could make yours dig it all frog, but I’ll probably shorten it.
Even though I’m the youngest of 5 (from 1945 - 1959) I don’t think anyone was a trekkie for me to remember that, also, we could only get NBC until I was in 5th grade and my folks bought a new (color) TV.
Great avatar *DFrog!
I can think of plenty of other shows that were new when I was a kid. I bought the whole set on DVD of “Hogan’s Heroes” and got my sons hooked on them for a while.
tabbylynn I see that you have a Lab as well. My dog is a sweetie and is the love of all the neighbors. I live on a dead end road and she has the run of the neighborhood and goes everyday to her favorite homes to visit, popping in to visit other dogs, cats and people with treats.
marg I like the group of emeralds best.
doc you’re going to have to take over, it is fast approaching my hubby’s bedtime, and if I don’t take him, he won’t go. (wink, wink)
Welcome back doctortoon. I feel like such an old man with everyone talking about what young sprouts you all are. But, like doctortoon I am in good shape and I believe that you are only as old as you feel.
I feel relieved. I just talked to my sweetie. She is looking out at the waves crashing on the beach drinking her first margarita and I am now relaxing knowing that she arrived safely.
my dog is a pain in the butt. but i love him. his name is beau. he needs to learn to listen then he can run around. there are tomany other dogs that are mean around here to let him go
If you’re only as old as you feel, then some days, I must be close to 100! I do think genetics plays a huge role in our health. My family has some weird health issues, one of which is even though heart disease runs rampant in my family tree, high blood pressure does not. In fact, we have trouble with sudden drops in our BP, so now the docs tell us to eat MORE salt.
Doc, I guess your kitties are your back-up alarm.
RRAmom, I’m the youngest of 6 (1949 to 61). I was the only one born in the 60’s.
Marg, I like the group of emeralds better too.
Cleo, we just use our TV for DVD’s and videos too.
DF, I remember that cereal.
Akenta, Goodnight.
Tabby, you’re right, 48 is not old.
Whew! Hope I didn’t miss anyone.
RRAmom, I read your comment on Daddy’s Home. Isn’t it odd how some people just make vile comments grouping people into some lump negative grouping. Hopefully, he isn’t married. If he is, I pity his wife.
Cleo I’m so glad you’re concerned she arrived safely. Sometimes I think my husband has too much confidence in my abilities and doesn’t worry about me. I keep telling him that if I don’t show up when I’m expected, I’d like a search party sent out for me. At least with cell phones & email, it is much easier to stay in touch nowadays.
And I was in Bethesda MD when JFK was shot. We were there for the Thanksgiving holiday. My aunt worked at the hospital. She took us there to await his arrival and I remember Jackie in her pink suit getting off the plane. We were close enough to see it. I was in 5th grade at the time.
I was in band practice when JFK was shot. School was let out early and I spent the next few days glued to the TV and saw Lee Harvey Oswald shot on a live broadcast. It affected me deeply.
Dry, sorry I missed you. I think you snuck back when I was still typing my comments.
So, I went back to the beginning of this month and found where Raven was trying to help us set some new communication. He said he was NFP.
Akenta: I know it’s too late for you to see this, but I agree with you about tonight’s survivor. We were laughing at evrything he uttered throughout the episode.
I was a sophomore in high school when JFK was shot. I was in art class at the time. We had to go to home ec the next period, and we were all crying while the teacher made us cook.
My fav old shows from back then were Star Trek, Hogans Heroes, Get Smart!, Bewitched, and the supermarionette shows (Thunderbirds, Stingray, SuperCar, Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet). I also remember Lost in Space, and Land of the Giants too.
Doc, that sounds good to me.
Marg, what a mean teacher!
Since I was only 2 when JFK died, I don’t remember anything. I did cry when John Lennon died. Since my older brothers and sisters really dug the Beatles, I did too and at a very young age. So it was very sad for me when he died, not only because he died, but because it reminded me of those innocent times we lived in.
Marg & Cleo did you know that carat for carat, a flawless emerald is worth more than a flawless diamond? Even though emeralds are a more common stone, most contain minute imperfections, flawless ones are more rare.
carmy I was heartbroken when John Lennon died. He was my favorite Beatle.
Guys, you are all making me feel old here. I must be the old man of the tribe. I knew that I was the dirty old man, but I wasn’t thinking in terms of actual age. LOL
Cleo: Mine is May 23rd. Now all we need are some flawless emeralds.
D.F.: I’d heard that flaws are what give emeralds their color. I like your explanation better.
No marg. I wear no jewelry at all anymore. I used to wear 3 rings, but now I feel more comfortable unadorned. Now no comments by any of you wiseguys about nudity.
@JFri (“BTW, you don’t want to KNOW how old I am. Older than DIRT!”)
I repeat what I said back post 198, “old” is fifteen years more than you are. OTOH, it will take at least five years to get used to the age you are now.
@cleokaya, I don’t wear any rings either. Were I unlucky enough to get one (Ring finger of right hand), the traditional stone is amethyst, though I’ve also seen a bloodstone used.
Bmonk: Thanks for your vote! I couldn’t decide. So many avatars, so little time.
Now that I’m in my 60s, 70 is old. When I’m in my 70s, 80 will be old. 80 year olds will be young compared to people in their 90s. When I’m in my 90s, then I’ll be old.
I remember when I hit 25, I thought I was really old. Now, I don’t really care about the numbers. I actually forget how old I am. When I need to remember how old I am, I ask one of my daughters because they never forget how old I am.
Yes, On The Other Hand. If you read Mote in God’s Eye and its sequel, Gripping Hand, there is also a third option: the Gripping Hand, which is an overriding consideration or argument.
Reminds me of Harry Truman, who once demanded, “Give me a one-armed economist!” (because the ones he had always were saying, “On the one hand…and on the other hand…”)
@bmonk “Say goodnight Gracie!”
Anohter blast from the past! I watched “Burns and Allen” in re-runs! Wish I could find it somewhere again! Gracie was PRICELESS!!!!!!
WOW!!, I finally got caught up on all the chats for today. Quite the day for history and trivia. I remember most the TV shows, was almost 10 yrs old when JFK was assassinated. I think it’s great how everyone takes up for one of our own when they are put upon but I don’t think any of us are so thin-skinned that we LOOK for offense when it’s not nastily apparent. Marg, I personally prefer the elegance of the single emerald. My favorite colors are blue and green. I myself have a pinky ring of 3 sapphires, a white sapphire with two dark blue sapphires to either side. Tabby, I don’t think you have to worry about offending anyone on CTH. While we follow each other around the gocomic circuit, it is inevitable that we gather at similar sites and visit. We are a tribe, desert nomads and where else would we meet but at an oasis, outpost or, “a watering hole”. In his previous encounter, Ravensinger said he couldn’t take a chance associating with his other avatar. Why? Who knows. Then NoFearPup says “I am Ravensinger.” Either that was NoFear’s ploy to confuse Ravensingers identity or really convenient for someone else.
Hello again folks,
Busy day again for me, not getting enough time to say hello to my tribe. Haven’t even had the time to read the last few pages of posts. DF and Marg, I like your avatars. If we are going for birth stones mine is pink, I think.

He’s afraid they will make it worse if he complains.
bmonk over 15 years ago
Yes, I agree about the immediate anger at anyone with a different opinion. People take it personally, and then respond personally with an attack. Sad, really. That what dialogue and conversation is all about: being exposed to different opinions and values and thoughts, and maybe considering some of them for yourself.

The mariposa lilies were in bloom this past week, and lovely little things they are.

tabyy I am certainly no doctor, but I don’t believe people throw when they are allergic to something.

BTW is Ask Tabby open for business…if so here you go.
Dear Tabby – My 17-year old daughter can barely make it through her classes without calling home to check on her cactus.

Digital Frog over 15 years ago
Tabby I agree also. Sounds like she ate something that didn’t agree with her but not an allergy, more likely bacterial (and not necessarily your cooking, she could have picked up anything and stuck it in her mouth) or she may have a flu type illness. Gatorade was a good call, if she’s throwing up or got the runs, it’s important to keep her hydrated and her electrolytes up. If she is running a fever at all, she should probably see a Dr.

okay so the last line got me…. the childless father line… what do you mean??
i had no clue that this would be such a job.. now if im good at it then i may have a carrer in it.
I am not sure what to tell you to do about it. lets see. is she allowed to have a phone at school? if so you can take a pic. of it and send it to her at school (on her lunch break) if you live 20 min from school and the lunch is 30 min the that means she is rushing to get there and back. how old is she? waite you have had said, yep you did she is 17 so that means your still her boss. so tell her she is not allowed to leav school to come home and check on a plant. yes it will be hard and she may hate you for it, but if it is in her best intrest then go for it. how are her grades? is she making good grades in school? why are you conserned about her failing? grades or lateness or other? if it is grades then most deffently keep her from going home. have to school stop her from leaving. i would be po if my father did this to me, but if it needs to be done then do it. let me know if this helps any… if not sorry.

let’s see if I can type this fast enough to be 151…
DFrog thanks for the links. Sadly, I don’t have as much time as I used to for playing, and this new addiction isn’t helping :-)
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Akenta Hello, how was your day today?
so all of this talk about WoW and i am seeing it all over the place. the adds and everything. strange.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
I’m back for now, tribe. We’re finished with school for the day. I’ll probably be popping in & out for the evening, between my other responsibilities. tabbylynn, I’d say the mom needs to take over and take the baby to the doctor. She might end up taking her to an allergist, but my guess is that it is NOT allergies, but something viral or bacterial.
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Rmom her mom is still at work i have had her every day this week and all but one night. i am going crazy. ill tell her to take her to the doc but will probley do no good. poor baby. well i am off to cut up so pottatoes. bbl

tabby my day was ok - just the same old work day. But it’s Thursday and tomorrow’s Friday. Got Survivor tonight so I’m hoping it will be good. Hope Ana feels better.
bmonk over 15 years ago
I’m not so sure, Drystyha, I’ve often been called (usually a self-reference) an “Unwed Father”… ;-)
And maybe he’s a stepfather? Then he could be, if you squint your eyes sideways, a childless father…
@Tabbylynn, my sisters would suggest duct tape for potty training the 2 1/2 year old, but they’re really not that cruel. They only get that way when I ask, “Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?
“Are we there yet?
“When are we going to get there?”
(repeat until they lose it.)
I hope you get a break from the babysitting. They are cute and loving, for the most part, but it’s the parents’ responsibility first. And I’d definitely consider asking for the extra $10 today with all the extra worry and bother. Especially if you end up doctoring her as well. Above and beyond the call of babysitting.

tabby the mom may be at work, but the baby is still her responsibility. She can call the doctor, get his/her recommendation on what to do. She can take off work to take her child to the doctor, or go to one of the “immediate care” or clinics open during her off hours.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
I might have a lot of advice on parenting to share, but potty-training was the hardest! I refuse to get an inside dog, just because I had so much trouble getting my boys housebroken. I do hear girls are usually easier in that department, so hopefully it won’t be as hard for you with this one.
margueritem over 15 years ago
Tabby: What does the mother do that you have to watch the baby at night? Surely she doesn’t work all day and all night? I glad that you talked to your Dad about helping him, and continuing to sit for just the summer. You need time to concentrate on your studies in the fall. :-)
As to potty training: The poop part was easy. I sat her on the toilet on her potty seat and read to her right after she ate. The urine part was harder. Hardest of all was staying dry over night. That took a long time. Regular underwear helped with the urinating. Kids don’t like feeling all soggy, so they learn quick. Training pants and diapers keep them too comfortable.
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Rmom her mom is not the smartest color in the box. she didnt take Ana to the doc win she busted her lip open. she plays around till the last min to do anything. its crazy.
the dog thing was great. they say girls are easer, but they say the smart ones are hardder. Ana is realy bleeep smart. she knows her ABCDs as she calls them. she was about 1 and a few months when she learnrd them. she can count to ten in spanish and about 20 in english. she does alot of things like remembers stuff. its cool and scary at the same time. and oh the questions she ask. wow.
dcguys over 15 years ago
Interesting perspective bmonk. I wouldn’t have thought of a sideways squint. Is it painful? (PS - no kids, not a dad)
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Marg the little rat stays dry all night. when we wake up and put her on the potty she will go sometimes. but her mom gives up and puts a dyper back on and then BAM she pottys. got to love it.
her mom works at super one she is a manger of some sorts. (?) some days she has to be at work for 6 others for 5 then some days shell go in at 3pm and work till midnight. its crazy. no set schedual. so if she has to be to work early, ill keep her bc i dont want to get up at 3 or 4 to get her.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Now that I am a bachelor again, albeit for five days, I can eat whenever I want, I don’t have gardening chores that I am told need to be done. I am essentially a free man and can do whatever my mood strikes me to do. So, why do I wish my sweetie were here. This is a great exercise in appreciating what you have. As the song goes,”You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone.”

bmonk over 15 years ago

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
dig that frog - how do you like my new nickname for you? Thanks for the feedback. I’ll probably change it sometime tomorrow. I don’t think I’m going to be like doc and have a different one each week. But my hubby sent the pic in an email he received, and that was the best way I could think of to share it with the tribe.

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago

Doc, that sounds good to me. Marg, what a mean teacher! Since I was only 2 when JFK died, I don’t remember anything. I did cry when John Lennon died. Since my older brothers and sisters really dug the Beatles, I did too and at a very young age. Bmonk: Thanks for your vote! I couldn’t decide. So many avatars, so little time.
Now that I’m in my 60s, 70 is old. When I’m in my 70s, 80 will be old. 80 year olds will be young compared to people in their 90s. When I’m in my 90s, then I’ll be old.

doctortoon I won’t wish you a good time as you are off to work, but I will wish you a speedy shift.

I remember when I hit 25, I thought I was really old. Now, I don’t really care about the numbers. I actually forget how old I am. When I need to remember how old I am, I ask one of my daughters because they never forget how old I am.

Once again, pardon my ignorance, but what does OTOH mean, oh, on the other hand?
bmonk over 15 years ago
Yes, On The Other Hand. If you read Mote in God’s Eye and its sequel, Gripping Hand, there is also a third option: the Gripping Hand, which is an overriding consideration or argument.
Reminds me of Harry Truman, who once demanded, “Give me a one-armed economist!” (because the ones he had always were saying, “On the one hand…and on the other hand…”)

Hello again folks, Busy day again for me, not getting enough time to say hello to my tribe. Haven’t even had the time to read the last few pages of posts. DF and Marg, I like your avatars. If we are going for birth stones mine is pink, I think.
