Good morning everyone. After some rain here in North Georgia, temps here are going to drop for just a few days. In the mid 40’s here to the upper 30’s in the mountains. And we’re just one week from the so-called “unofficial start of spring” (Memorial Day). On the upside, it’s going to be beautiful day! How are the rest of you? Guess what my favorite drink is? Good afternoon/evening tribe. Boy, it was a beautiful day here in Atlanta. Chilly to begin, warmed up later. Okay, enough about the weather (for now). Since I’m a newcomer to this shindig, again I need to know two basic things: No talk about politics and religon, right?
Hey Tribe, I’m BAAACK!
Sorry, did I scare you? DCguys- we call it the May long weekend now. Too many people said “Victoria who? What’s the secret?” Queen Victoria likely would know though. ;)
We walked about 5 hours, and saw lots of great birds (talk about Twitter!) I loved the Barn Swallows that for some reason were nesting under the deck on a pond. They sat on the bulrushes just inches from us. There were flocks of Cormorants- must be migrating- Trumpeter Swans, mute Swans, yellow warblers and yellow finches and gorgeous Tree sparrows (blue) that for some reason live in houses (tree houses?) I won’t tell you what a female Mallard duck did- too funny. You’ll have to wait.
I’m a mite (not “bug”) hungry. Any food left? sugie63, serenaskitty, and tabbylynn, any desserts left? After I finish up the last of the burritos, I’ll want to try some yummies. DoctorToon- I thought you had today off, or is that over all ready? I’ll never get the time frame right with this party!
Gee carmy, I hope all goes well with you. Glad you’ve got the Tribe.
Welcome back JFri. Happy Mt. St. Helen’s Day to you and cleokaya and whoever saw/heard it.
Dryshta- I noticed your avatar. I was about to mention it when I got distracted by my cat reupholstering my couch for me. He likes the shaggy look- I don’t
DigitalFrog And I got distracted by your four letter word! I sure had a different image in mind about you waking up to “S— all over the place.” Glad someone set me straight. LOL! The S— was on the OUTSIDE bed.
I guess I’ll move on to see what else is out there. Bye for now.
That’s correct Josh. We don’t talk about politics or religion. We are friends that are sensitive to one another’s differences and try to relate on what we can do to find common ground and to just find some humor in the day.
Shikamoo, yes Atlanta is in GA and I thought Josh mentioned that, but today I can actually see that he lives nearby. I just get excited when there’s somebody not a world away that’s part of the tribe.
Carmy glad you’re out of “the evil place”! That rain? Don’t have a CLUE where it came from (innocent whistling)! Gee, look! That big yellow ufo is here!
heavy sigh Finally home. Anytime Shikamoo - what’s mine is yours…not that anyone would want most of what’s mine. I only bring the best to this table though. Crab rangoon anyone? I’ve got the munchies before dinner. I have Chinese hot mustard, sweet & sour, and a mild honey/Dijon sauces for dipping.
JFri Did you get you mocha…mocha…MOCHA??? I hope so. I understand a day w/o it & wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
Oh, and RRAmom, the only other way I’ve seen klutziness pay off is insurance fraud and I know that’s not something you’d attempt.
I’ll leave the wines to the experts…you there, Cleo?
I have a batch of raspberry/lime juice I just pulverized…errr blended, if anyone’s interested. It’s light but satisfying at the end or beginning of the day.
Shika I took a full year of ornithology so I am envious of your day :-Pdcguys, NO I did NOT get my mocha :-( Now I’m all cranky! But, hey, thanks for asking!
BTW, anyone who is interested that 5.0 earthquake in LA yesterday was epicentered about 2 miles from my son’s house. He said there were several aftershocks ranging from 2.5 to 3.5. He had no damage so it was a GOOD earthquake experience for him!
Well, that is good for your son JFri, I have only had one earthquake experience here in MI, but I didn’t even feel it: no one did except the sensors I didn’t even know we had.
Jfri–Glad your son is safe. The only earthquake we experienced here felt like the subway rumbling under the house, which incidently was on the subway line, so it didn’t alarm us until we read in the paper what had happened. Although, now that I think of it, my clock falling out of the nightstand should have alarmed me.
Popped in the say hi. My 2 of favorite shows season finales are tonight, “24” with Kiefer Sutherland, and “CSI Miami” with David Caruso. 3 hours straight, so if I don’t get back tonite, have a great evening! Save me some food and drink, ya’ all!
Shika thanks! That really hit the spot! Mmmmmmmmmm. jdoc I have had several earthquake experiences here in the PNW. One lasted about 45 seconds (which seemed like 5 minutes) and had the whole house rolling back & forth. We had very minimal damage, surprisingly enough.
You’re right, dcguys I’m not the type to do insurance fraud. However, that reminds me about someone who insured his cigars. Went to collect because they were burned by fire. Got charged with arson.
I did accounting for a living until I became a mom - but not interested in doing it again for a living, because I like being creative, however, creative accounting is not legal.
I guess I’ll just be satisfied with my klutziness providing humor for my family and friends.
JFri, I think most of the rain we are getting came off the Atlantic, so you’re in the clear.
I’m glad your son is okay. We were in San Diego when they had a big one in L.A. (Simi Valley ?) and we felt like it was right there in San Diego. You don’t get earthquakes where you are? We had some minor ones in WA state when we lived there.
Alas, I have to return to the evil place on Tues, Weds and Thurs. Those days will be short visits compared to today though.
Drystyha–I just caught up on yesterdays posts and i’m glad you enjoyed our fair province Ontario. One of the best summer jobs I had was in a travel kiosk for “Ontario-Yours to Discover”. we travel around so we could tell people about the various places. I learned how to wind-sail. Never did it again though.
Shikamoo have you ever taken the train from Cochrane up to Moosonee? I really enjoyed that trip. If you haven’t done it, the trip really gives one a chance to experience the wilds of northern Ontario.
I lived in Chino (outside of LA and NOnot the prison!) and experienced one quake. I agree with JFri* that 9 seconds feels like a minute! **Cleo - as always, thanks for the recommend on the Saki. Good choice! Shika I’m glad you weren’t clocked! I’ve heard interesting stories about creative accounting Dry - glad you don’t have any to share 1st hand! I think I heard about the guy charged w/arson, thought the jury burned him, right?! Back to H for you, now!
Hello jestrfyl. I agree, it is a bit tough following the conversation tonight. A lot of diverse topics.
I am watching an old movie produced by Howard Hughes in which he introduces Jane Russell to the world. It’s a movie I have seen many times, but my sweetie hasn’t. It’s one of those movies that make you feel like you’re visiting an old friend. It’s not Jane’s first movie, but she fits in well with Robert Mitchum and the rest of the cast.
Goodnight Ya’ll, it’s past 12am for me. It was a long day and I had a nice nap earlier. I have to try to some sleep because it will be another long day tomorrow.
It’s really gusty here right now, my bedroom windows are getting noisy.
Good evening JDoc & JFri. Kind of a blah day and night here. We went from several days of sun and warmth to gray and cloudy, with rain that began around sunset.
I got my daily bike ride in, but didn’t spend much time outside. Yesterday was the hottest day we have had yet this year, so it made today seem chilly.
Jfri i have missed you buddy
cleo goodevening. it seems to just be us few again. lol
shikamoo 1st need to find a way to shorten your name (for me) 2nd glad i didnt gross you out. i still what to know about the duck…
Jdoc ive been okay. busy i have a job job and a babysitting job. they are both killing me. which reminds me Tribe i will not be present till late to morrow night. i am going to be at work all day. sigh sucks.
Cleo hi. did you find out whos underpants?
Since, as is becoming all to well know, I like to wear as few clothes as I can get away with, my legs are always covered in bruises and scrapes from walking into things. I seem particularly drawn to sharp corners on tables, or just anything tending to create as much pain as possible.
At least twice a week I give my wife a good scare that gets her off the floor a few inches. I don’t do it intentionally, but I naturally walk lightly. She’ll sneak up on me and try to get me, but usually with no effect.
Cleo i can walk out of my bed room and my brother walk out the bathroom (right next to my room) and ill scream and hit him for scaring me. he’ll just stand ther and shake his head then say did i scare you. lol im a chicken.
Gee tabby, I promised I wouldn’t talk about the duck, but since you insist- ta-dah! I just happened to learn how to cut and paste recently, and I had to tell someone about this duck, so this is from my email:
How is you weekend so far? Enjoy your three days off?
I went for a nature walk with Wendy, my ornithologist friend from church. I just had to tell you about what happened with a pair of ducks. I wish you could have been there to see it.
There was an octagonal-shaped wooden deck over a pond. In the morning, we watched bank Swallows nesting under underneath, and just sitting on the reeds looking at us looking at them. We were so enchanted, we went back before leaving the area. There were two people, and man and woman sitting eating lunch on the bench around the deck, and two ring-billed gulls on the railing. Just as we got on the deck, a female Mallard flew in and landed on the deck, with the drake following close behind. She started quaking and strutting around all hunched up with her tail in the air, and we felt sure that we were watching a weird and little known mating ritual. (Stay with me here.) She kept circling and squawking, er quacking, and then turned her back to us and let fly with the worst case of the runs! I mean a golden stream of bird poop (yeah, I know, poop-deck…gross). Then she quacked some more and waddled over the the other side, with the drake right beside, and did it again. Then they both flew away, quacking all the way. Lord, we laughed, although Wendy said, “I know how she feels some times.” The couple having the picnic weren’t exactly having a picnic at that point. they looked rather green, in fact. But it was hilarious.
So, how was your long weekend? Any news on………

Josh1360, I thought you were in GA too. I think that makes 3 of us now. I haven’t seen donkeymom in a while though.
serenasakitty welcome :-)
cleokaya over 15 years ago
That’s correct Josh. We don’t talk about politics or religion. We are friends that are sensitive to one another’s differences and try to relate on what we can do to find common ground and to just find some humor in the day.
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
Josh1360 and others. Isn’t GA Georgia- Isn’t Atlanta in Georgia, or am I not getting something here?
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
BTW- Just popped in for some juice and fresh fruit to go. Thanks DCguys and cleokaya.
Akenta over 15 years ago
Shikamoo, yes Atlanta is in GA and I thought Josh mentioned that, but today I can actually see that he lives nearby. I just get excited when there’s somebody not a world away that’s part of the tribe.

Carmy glad you’re out of “the evil place”! That rain? Don’t have a CLUE where it came from (innocent whistling)! Gee, look! That big yellow ufo is here!
dcguys over 15 years ago
heavy sigh Finally home.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Shika I took a full year of ornithology so I am envious of your day :-P dcguys, NO I did NOT get my mocha :-( Now I’m all cranky! But, hey, thanks for asking!
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
BTW, anyone who is interested that 5.0 earthquake in LA yesterday was epicentered about 2 miles from my son’s house. He said there were several aftershocks ranging from 2.5 to 3.5. He had no damage so it was a GOOD earthquake experience for him!
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
JFri: Here, I just brewed some Mocha for you! Hope you like it.
dcguys, I’m still thirsty. Pour me a glass, sounds good.
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
Well, that is good for your son JFri, I have only had one earthquake experience here in MI, but I didn’t even feel it: no one did except the sensors I didn’t even know we had.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
dcguys, with Crab Rangoon I probably will bring sake instead of wine. My taste buds are salivating.
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
Jfri–Glad your son is safe. The only earthquake we experienced here felt like the subway rumbling under the house, which incidently was on the subway line, so it didn’t alarm us until we read in the paper what had happened. Although, now that I think of it, my clock falling out of the nightstand should have alarmed me.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
Popped in the say hi. My 2 of favorite shows season finales are tonight, “24” with Kiefer Sutherland, and “CSI Miami” with David Caruso. 3 hours straight, so if I don’t get back tonite, have a great evening! Save me some food and drink, ya’ all!
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Shika thanks! That really hit the spot! Mmmmmmmmmm. jdoc I have had several earthquake experiences here in the PNW. One lasted about 45 seconds (which seemed like 5 minutes) and had the whole house rolling back & forth. We had very minimal damage, surprisingly enough.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Shika was that a PUN??? Clock, alarmed???
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
Not a pun, but it was an alarm clock! What I meant is that the subway never shook anything off the table.
Hmm. But it would have made a good pun!
So. Do you want to hear about the duck? As an orthinologist, perhaps you can explain what happened.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
You’re right, dcguys I’m not the type to do insurance fraud. However, that reminds me about someone who insured his cigars. Went to collect because they were burned by fire. Got charged with arson. I did accounting for a living until I became a mom - but not interested in doing it again for a living, because I like being creative, however, creative accounting is not legal. I guess I’ll just be satisfied with my klutziness providing humor for my family and friends.

Shikamoo MB i must say thanks for sticking up ( i guess you could call it that) for me on Calvin and Hobbes.
carmy over 15 years ago
JFri, I think most of the rain we are getting came off the Atlantic, so you’re in the clear. I’m glad your son is okay. We were in San Diego when they had a big one in L.A. (Simi Valley ?) and we felt like it was right there in San Diego. You don’t get earthquakes where you are? We had some minor ones in WA state when we lived there. Alas, I have to return to the evil place on Tues, Weds and Thurs. Those days will be short visits compared to today though.
Radical-Knight over 15 years ago
Everybody did great over at Calvin and Hobbs today, I think every week should have at least one ”GROSS-OUT day.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
They are waiting for the big earthquake up here in WA. I’ve experienced some minor ones, but we have the potential faults to cause some major damage.
Akenta over 15 years ago
hmm, radk maybe that should say in C&H, we have too much good food over here :-)

Where abouts are you from?

well im going for a walk. yes it is dark and night. but that is the only time my friend can go. well must be going bbl if i can.

Akenta: If you don’t want to be grossed out here, then I guess I can’t tell my duck story. Sorry about that JFri.

It’s my bedtime now, so I’ll just read it in the morning when I’m too tired to care :-)
Good night, all!!

Shikamoo have you ever taken the train from Cochrane up to Moosonee? I really enjoyed that trip. If you haven’t done it, the trip really gives one a chance to experience the wilds of northern Ontario.

I lived in Chino (outside of LA and NO not the prison!) and experienced one quake.
Peace to all & good night, Gracie.

All of this commentary after serensakitty wrote about homemade donuts!! Yikes! I lost the train of thought.
cleokaya over 15 years ago

Hello Tabby, I like that one, I will have to use it in the future. I have become graceful in avoiding actually hitting the ground when I trip.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
jdoc do what I do, try ytivarg (gravity spelled backwards)!
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Jdoc how have you been. i havent hit the ground in a while. lol but hit a lot of hard objects with my toes, knees, arms..etc.

Jdoc ive been okay. busy i have a job job and a babysitting job. they are both killing me. which reminds me Tribe i will not be present till late to morrow night. i am going to be at work all day. sigh sucks. Cleo hi. did you find out whos underpants?
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Since, as is becoming all to well know, I like to wear as few clothes as I can get away with, my legs are always covered in bruises and scrapes from walking into things. I seem particularly drawn to sharp corners on tables, or just anything tending to create as much pain as possible.
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
so i am reading some crazy funny little things on one of my other fav sights. this is not me, but it is funny.
“I’m the girl who can watch tons of horror movies and not get scared, but scream at the top of my lungs when toast pops out of the toster.”
thought it was funny.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Nope, only doctortoon was willing to try and lay claim to them. But his underpants were decorated in a spiderman motif. So they weren’t his.
The Duke 1 over 15 years ago
Correct, jdoc. Falling up hurts waaaaay less. What kind of work are you looking for, if you don’t mind my asking?
cleokaya over 15 years ago
At least twice a week I give my wife a good scare that gets her off the floor a few inches. I don’t do it intentionally, but I naturally walk lightly. She’ll sneak up on me and try to get me, but usually with no effect.
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Cleo i can walk out of my bed room and my brother walk out the bathroom (right next to my room) and ill scream and hit him for scaring me. he’ll just stand ther and shake his head then say did i scare you. lol im a chicken.
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
Summer job, or anything I can get. Tabby, I am kinda like that. I don’t really scream, but I have been described as very jumpy.

Any news on………Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
tabby- that cut and paste didn’t work :( I’ll try again.
