Lets do chicken fried steaks for breakfast. As gross as it is this is my favorite breakfast. Country fried potatoes and eggs to your order. Watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries and ruby grapefruit as a lower fat option.
carmy how are you feeling today?
tabby I’m sure your friend understands. It’s good that you’re busy and enjoying life - just don’t hurt yourself or get attacked by chickens.
On my rounds of reading comics, I always read Bo Nanas and then check out John’s blog (http://kovaleski.wordpress.com/) Yesterday he was talking about subscription numbers so I asked if he knew where they came from - and he’s not really sure. I think he might enjoy it if we yapped over on his website for a day. (See tabby I don’t just cause trouble at work)
I can wiggle my nose, not my ears…and I have seen Footloose so I won’t even go to the auditions when they’re here. I’m not sure I’d want to but just thought I’d make that clear.
Gray sunshine but no tornadoes, hurricanes or rain so a good day here. I agree Akenta, it is weird not to see Marg at the top of the comments. See everyone around T’ville!
I think I saw about 5 minutes of Footloose, that was all I could handle. We’ve been off TV since 1999.
Morning Le Tribe!Akenta, I am feeling better this morning, thank you.
Doc, you left me speechless (typeless?) at 2 Cows because of the “b” word. LOL.
Cleo, great breakfast spread, thank you.
MARG! Where you be at woman?
Hello all, I hope you are enjoying breakfast and of course there is gravy.
There is some strange wet substance falling from the sky this morning. No clue what it is, but it is going to keep me from going outside to water the plants this morning.
Chicken fried steak for breakfast…novel concept. With a properly concocted cream gravy (heavy on the black pepper) it might just work. With a side of cold cantaloupe, it might just be excellent…
I saw “Footloose” at a drive-in theater. Actually, I was at a drive-in when it was showing….I seem to remember being otherwise occupied at the time, however.
Good morning, all! I never did take a nap yesterday, and fell asleep in my chair last night. I was so out of it that I just went straight to bed. Got up at 6:20, and we’re heare waiting for the new countertops and sink to arrive.
cleo - I’ve never had chicken fried steak for breakfast before, but I’ve been tempted to. I guess since it is virtual, I won’t have to deal with RL consequences, so pile it on along with the potatoes & eggs. I’ll take some canteloupe & watermelon to finish the meal. Yum!!!
I’ve been busy in the kitchen with all of the breakfast crowd. Those of you who like seafood, might want to join us tognight as I am making Shellfish Cannelloni with Tarragon Sauce, using shrimp, scallops and crab. I have a pound of fresh sheet pasta that I need to use up. I will also be making fresh European peasant bread.
Drive in theaters to me are kind of like a tiny motel with a very big TV.
Good morning Tribe!Cleo I’d love to join you for supper tonight. Sounds like one of my favorite meals. And thanks for the wonderful breakfast! We left yesterday am at 6:00 and got home very late - didn’t even get on to the computer - just fell into to bed.
Shika,I* wondered where you were.
Howdy, Dawn. I used to have one of those metal speakers from a drive-in, the ones that hung on the side window of your car…no idea where it went. Probably a museum piece now.
When I was way younger, the drive in we went to in Texas had the best pizza. Our whole family would go in the station wagon. First movie I remember seeing was A Man Called Horse with Richard Harris. Sometimes we lit those mosquito coils around the wagon to keep the skeeters away.
I’ll BBL. Time to get this chemo pump off, YEA!!
A Man Called Horse! Great movie! So was Soldier Blue, but man, that was sad and gruesome! I sobbed the whole way through that one! Don’t know why I stayed in the theatre. I should have left! In fact, the theatre shouldn’t have let anyone under 18 in in the first place!
Been off the boards for a bit due to travel and computer issues. Will still be erratic for a while (my family would say I’m always erratic) as I’m getting things squared away before starting a new job next week.
I am very dismayed at the mess we will have to clean up when the guys leave, plus my husband still has to do all the plumbing. The installers are being as neat as they can be, but everything needs vacuuming, and the floors will need a washing, etc. Looks like we will have to repaint the kitchen, as the tomato red doesn’t look as good anymore. One job leads to another, as they say. I’m tired just thinking about it.
marg - Believe me, I know what a mess construction leaves! My husband & I built our house (did majority of the work ourselves). We made the mistake of moving in before it was even close to being finished. Now it is difficult to work on it, because over the years our possessions have expanded to fill the space. Whenever work is done, I’m the one to clean it up.
Ahh, the drive-in theaters they disappeared before I was old enough to appreciate them, or even remember them. They thought about bringing one back in a nearby town, but they scrapped the idea… Oh well.
Hi Shika! sorry I missed you earlier. Thanks for the hugs.
Marg, If I lived by you, I would help you with the clean-up.
D.F. glad you’re back and all is well, congrats on the new job.
Dry, I love your quote. Very nice!
I got back from chemo about an hour ago. I had to have some chicken soup, it made my tummy feel much better. Now, I am going to relax and watch a chick flick. I’ll BBL.
DRY: I remember those metal boxes from the Drive-in too. But my memories are a little tame. More often than not, my sister and I were in our jammies already so that mom and dad could pop us in bed at the cottage after the movie.
I always stayed awake for the movie, while my older sister was sound asleep by about 9:00p.m. Apparently I saw some pretty good movies. Too bad i was too young to know what they were doing on screen.
And before you get any ideas- my dad took us to the drive-in i’m told, because if he wore his collar (as a minister) he got in free- all of us! So it was pretty tame, although an odd memory when I think of it (dad wearing clericals at a drive-in).
i am now home and caught up on todays… dont remember much. :(
Akenta thanks i think my friend does understand. :D also im glad you dont just make trouble at work. lol
* Marg* i wished i lived closer i would so help you. we do custom countertops for a living and i know the messes that are made. i have cleaned a lot of them. and have learned ways to keep them cleaner. hope it gets better.
DF - Good for you. I am happy that you found a new job.
Gosh, I wish I could spend some money on a new kitchen, a new master bath another deck and hardwood floors upstairs. I even have a good friend who is an incredible carpenter / contractor who has been out of work for quite awhile, because of the state of affairs, but I just don’t feel comfortable spending the money right now. I have lost so much on the stock market, that it makes me sick thinking about it.
I woke up to heavy rain and thought, ah cool…no need to water today. Then it stopped. I am sitting in the hot tub with my wife and she says ” I know that you are not going to want to hear this but…today would be a good day to water because the rain has made the surface permeable (or something like that). I have been moving sprinklers all day long. For someone who is not a gardener, I sure spend a lot of time out in them. To be honest I love seeing the results of watering and I am a good source for my wife, if I spot a plant in distress, I can tell her about it and she can provide her skills in attempting to rectify the situation.
Johnnyd - You are right, it is teamwork. With my wife’s disability she could not keep up with this yard alone, although she could give it a pretty good run. Her task has been to harness the aspects of gardening that I can have fun at and then to try to interest me in other tasks in the yard to see if I can grasp onto them. She has done pretty well, but she still has a job ahead of her.
cleo , Are you actually trying to kill them off altogether? If so, have you tried Round Up? Or does your dog get near that area? I have also used just plain vinegar to kill weeds. Natural and adds ph to the soil.
Hello everyone.
Digital Frog, congrats on the new job. I hope it will be everything you want.
RRAmom. how did you manage to get your possessions to only fill your space? Mine tend to accumulate until they overflow. Even when I can bear to get rid of anything that happens. I’m a bit of a packrat.
Cleo I don’t have a garden this year but I found I spent a lot of time watering, weeding etc. In the end I thought it would be best to throw the veggies away and just grow the weeds. With them I never had to worry about too much or too little rain, sunshine, hail, fire, flood, volcano or the end of the world. They would always be there.
Everyone, you mean there were MOVIES at the drivein??LOL.
Serena - yes weeds the one thing that will grow no matter what the conditions are. Actually, we are trying to grow only native plants and we have been eliminating ivy from four banks now. Once the native plants get established we will be able to pretty much forget about them. At least that is what my wife says. Oh and :-P on the drive in comment.
Dry - I am using Round Up. There is an environmental group that has been restoring Salmon habitat around here and that is what they use. It doesn’t leach into the soil and it is a “nasty, cold blooded killer.”
cleo, just make sure the native plants aren’t invasive! IF you think you have problems now, oh boy! The USDA used to encourage people to plant Ruguso (SP) Rose. Now they have it on their invasive species list and any farmer who plants it or hasn’t gotten rid of it, is ineligible for cost share payments on certain things!
Cleo and Dry I remember having a problem with some sort of varigated plant that I thought was pretty, but a master goarden said was choking out local plants. He suggested we mowed the patch and spray it with javex. It seemed to work, although we were told not to grow anything there for a year.
Re: Roundup- We used that on our drive way where a nasty neighbour had spread grass seed so my aging mom couldn’t tell where the driveway was. He was a nut-case. He planted a tree so close to the edge of the drive way that it would be hard NOT to hit it, and then threaten to sue if she did hit it. She almost had a breakdown before he lost his job and moved. I hear he was the same everywhere he moved.
Serena Good one! It was called a drive-in, not a movie spot.
I’ll bet there are just as many memories of “lookout points”. That’s where you drive to a secluded natural high spot, and “look out!” hand everywhere. LOL
johnnydoc: That is a mild word for him. He threatened to sue for just about anything. He and his wife were teachers. I’m glad he lost his job. He didn’t belong in a town, let alone teaching children!
@ johnny: He also had my mom’s elderly woman friend arrested because she pointed her finger at him to tell him to stop threatening my mom. Betty was all of 4’ 5”! The police took her down (they had to) but they couldn’t believe she was being charged with assault. The charges were dropped, needless to say. Betty was spunky, and I think they had a good laugh at his expense, at least when he wasn’t in the room.
serenasa - I didn’t say we could WALK through the house. :)
It does seem like when I get some floor space cleaned out, something always migrates there to fill it.
Dry, Dry, Dry– Just be glad you aren’t up there looking for those submarines! I’m from out east too, but I guessed there wouldn’t be much to see, but Plenty to DO! ROFLOL!
I would like to tell him off, Shika, but he would probably sue me too.
No worries ladies, I thought that there were submarine races too, and am quite disappointed to find the contrary.
so i was supposed to cook… lol it did not happen. im now soaked from putting up the pool and getting in to flatn it out with ana. lol we played in the water more then we worked. so im going jump in the shower and we are having a grab night. bbl
I think I mentioned dishes to wash about an hour ago. I must have gotten sidetracked. The kitchen is right beside me too! Let’s see if I make it over two feet. lol
Tabby, my heart goes out to you. I know you have a good heart, but you just have too much to do. But you still stay sweet and kind. : )
Why not send it? Cleo sent me his sunny weather. I owe him one.
Here’s lots of rain Cleo! Just over night. Then it will be sunny, but not too hot so the rian gets a chnce to soak in. I’ll send you enough for three nights!
Doc I like storms myself. Of course we don’t get the doozy you guys talk about. Although it’s been windy enough here to blow patio furniture across a very busy main street here. And I haad to hang on to the light standard to keep from blowing into traffic. That was scary.
Shika thanks i have a good heart i know… it is just to big sometimes bc i do tomuch. lol need to brush my stupid teeth and braces…. they put new wires and they hurt just like the first time…. i told her “as soon as i am able to eat food food again you go and mess it up by playing with them and putting diffrent wires” she laughed at me. :(
Doc, funnel clouds? Well we have had some small tornados spotted around here, a couple of times in the farmland. They were deemed tornados but the only damage they did was to shatter a couple of barns and rip up trees. No animals were in the barns at hte time.
Fellow Tribe mates– I’m going to have to sign off. I need my beauty sleep. I will be away from my computer until Sunday.
No search parties unless you bring the whole Tribe and a keg of Brandy on the St. Bernard’s neck. Or for those farther south- bring pirate’s ship and turn the search party into a real party when you find me!
Peace and Love to all
Tabby- take care.
Doc, Dry and JFri– behave yourselves! Oh, never mind! That’s too much to ask. : P
Cleo: Enjoy the movie and the rain.
johnnydoc: Thanks for the support.
RAD, Digital, Dawn, Marg, Joy, Akenta, RRAmom, Serena and all those too numerous to name-
Your Welcome, Shika, see you in the future.
Dry, that is it, thank you for noticing.
Tabby, you will get to a point where the pain will not be as bad, and be very brief after each tightening. I also admire your stamina, I was too lazy to run today, because it is humid out.
Ah, doc. Pea-sized hail doesn’t usually do any damage, although I wouldn’t recommend standing outside in it. I can understand your fascination. If there is no damage, it can be quite interesting to observe. Once it gets to about quarter-size, then it is time (after the storm has passed) to see if the shingles will need replaced.
DocT that doesn’t sound too bad. Had hail here a few years ago, had to get roof replaced and practically everything on my car.
Just a few months ago we had another hail storm, this time the hail was smaller (pea-size) but last 40 minutes. Was nervous since I had to return my lease a few weeks after, luckily no damage this time.
Alright, I really should go to bed now, I have been zombie-ish the past two days, and I am staying up too late tonight. So I will say good night all.
Tabby, don’t worry too much, you will give yourself an ulcer. It will all work out.:)
hello all. Well, you missed out on a good dinner. The shellfish cannelloni was wonderful.
Hold off on your rain wishes Le Tribe. I have finally got the crew out here who built my steps and deck down to the lake. It has been a long time coming and they have work to do that can not be done in the rain. So, for the moment, I am praying for no rain.
johnnydoc, we all tend to stay up too late around here! Except for the lucky S H I T S who are 3 hours behind us! No wonder they are always the first to post in the morning! This is a great place to be!
Anyone happen to notice my new avatar? I decided to put both of my sons on display. Of course, they look nothing like this now - amazing what 16 years will do.
cleo , I share your sentiments, although if there are any more posts since around 3 PM I haven’t seen them! This place is for peace, friendship and kindness, remember? Let the hatred spew out elsewhere!
I’m going to sign off for the night. Maybe I’ll get a good idea of how to celebrate while I’m sleeping. Anything is better than dreaming(?) of algebra!!
Dry and carmy are you two telling secrets again lol i missed being here, now that im back i dont feel like being on… im tired and sad and just idk strange feeling.
Carmy: I couldn’t forget you! I was listening to music designed for deep sleep and remembered that I forgot to say goodnight and sweet dreams Carmy! (hug) Glad you are getting the pump off. Just in time for JOY’S party too.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOY! SORRY I’LL MISS IT. HERE’S SOME FLOWERS FOR YOU.
thanks camry yep i ate some white beans and rice just to find out it hurts to eat all over again.lol i forgot about the pain for a few min and i took a bite and cried.
im tired, but the walks help me sleep, bc i know she is okay. you know what im talking about. ;) she is just an amazing person and another one of my moms. lol so when we go for our walks it turns into a bunch of laughter and fun and sometimes crying on both parts. also we get to laugh at eachoutehr when we trip and choke together on stinky trash cans. lol that is the way i like to end my day.. on a happy note. so i got used to it and im spoiled now. also being a party pooper so i will shut up now.
Wow, thanks to all for the offers of help! The installers did a good job of keeping things tidy, and swept the kitchen floor before they left. I did a lot of vacuuming, and my husband did get the faucet installed so all that he has to do tomorrow is reinstall the pipes and the garbage disposal. Now we have to decide what color to paint the walls, which is a fun part.
Tabby, does your Dad install granite?
RRAmom, you are a strong lady. I could never live in a house as it was being built.
Carmy: You know I’d help you in any way that I could if we lived closer to each other.

Dry: I like that Escher quote. I wonder if bmonk has seen it?
margueritem over 15 years ago
I am very dismayed at the mess we will have to clean up when the guys leave, plus my husband still has to do all the plumbing. The installers are being as neat as they can be, but everything needs vacuuming, and the floors will need a washing, etc. Looks like we will have to repaint the kitchen, as the tomato red doesn’t look as good anymore. One job leads to another, as they say. I’m tired just thinking about it.
;-p

I found it when I went and checked out M.C. Escher. I still don’t understand Brainwaves though, even with doc’s ‘splanation! LOL
But I thought the quote fit this little tribe. Now we have a theme song, a motto, all we need is a Mission Statement! :-D

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
marg - Believe me, I know what a mess construction leaves!

@Dawn Great, we can now be a threesome at the auditions. (I’ve been out a lot Dawn, that’s all)

Tell me Doc, what is a “man talent”? Sounds very intriguing! (wink)

To be honest I love seeing the results of watering and I am a good source for my wife, if I spot a plant in distress, I can tell her about it and she can provide her skills in attempting to rectify the situation.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
But, no matter how much watering that I do, the garden responds to rain in a much more beneficial way.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago

cleokaya over 15 years ago
Dry - You just had to bring up weeding didn’t you? Tomorrow I have just got to go back for another ivy / blackberry / St. John’s wart attack.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Johnnyd - You are right, it is teamwork. With my wife’s disability she could not keep up with this yard alone, although she could give it a pretty good run. Her task has been to harness the aspects of gardening that I can have fun at and then to try to interest me in other tasks in the yard to see if I can grasp onto them. She has done pretty well, but she still has a job ahead of her.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
cleo , Are you actually trying to kill them off altogether? If so, have you tried Round Up? Or does your dog get near that area? I have also used just plain vinegar to kill weeds. Natural and adds ph to the soil.
serenasakitty over 15 years ago
Hello everyone.
Everyone, you mean there were MOVIES at the drivein??LOL.
cleokaya over 15 years ago
Serena - yes weeds the one thing that will grow no matter what the conditions are. Actually, we are trying to grow only native plants and we have been eliminating ivy from four banks now. Once the native plants get established we will be able to pretty much forget about them. At least that is what my wife says. Oh and :-P on the drive in comment.
Dry - I am using Round Up. There is an environmental group that has been restoring Salmon habitat around here and that is what they use. It doesn’t leach into the soil and it is a “nasty, cold blooded killer.”
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 15 years ago
cleo, just make sure the native plants aren’t invasive! IF you think you have problems now, oh boy! The USDA used to encourage people to plant Ruguso (SP) Rose. Now they have it on their invasive species list and any farmer who plants it or hasn’t gotten rid of it, is ineligible for cost share payments on certain things!
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
I hear he was the same everywhere he moved.
johnnydoc5 over 15 years ago
Shika, that guy sounds like a jerk.

Dry - My wife has a good handle on her local plants. I leave it to her. The local nurseries literally rub their hands together when she arrives.

Serena Good one! It was called a drive-in, not a movie spot.
I’ll bet there are just as many memories of “lookout points”. That’s where you drive to a secluded natural high spot, and “look out!” hand everywhere. LOL
From what I hear anyways! ; )

johnnydoc: That is a mild word for him. He threatened to sue for just about anything. He and his wife were teachers. I’m glad he lost his job. He didn’t belong in a town, let alone teaching children!
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
@ johnny: He also had my mom’s elderly woman friend arrested because she pointed her finger at him to tell him to stop threatening my mom. Betty was all of 4’ 5”! The police took her down (they had to) but they couldn’t believe she was being charged with assault. The charges were dropped, needless to say. Betty was spunky, and I think they had a good laugh at his expense, at least when he wasn’t in the room.

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
Akenta over 15 years ago
DocT that doesn’t sound too bad. Had hail here a few years ago, had to get roof replaced and practically everything on my car.
Just a few months ago we had another hail storm, this time the hail was smaller (pea-size) but last 40 minutes. Was nervous since I had to return my lease a few weeks after, luckily no damage this time.
