Hello again all. I just got in from my battle with invasive plants. I had to get out there and spray before the wind comes up. Invasive weeds sure give your ego a beating.
Doc frozen waffles would be great. thanks. lol
if he doesnt run off and comes back after all of this he may just be worthy. he tells me im beautiful every day and says hes lucky to have met me and that im the best thing to happen to him. so he may just be worthy. lol
tabby - Even though I’m perfectly capable of baking a cake from scratch, using a good (Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines) mix is the way I go when a cake is called for. I just made a double-layer chocolate cake last night. Our oldest will be 20 tomorrow, and since his dad won’t be around ON his birthday, I made it early so my hubby could have some cake, because there won’t be any left by Friday.
Rmom may i ask what you mean? because im lost…. oh waite i think i get it. how he deals with Ana is what you mean? he goes see his sisters little boy ever day after work its so sweet. hes good with the baby i had yesterday also. so i think he will be a great dad.
for those who remember when i had that chemical burn a while back on my hand. well it has gone now, but left affects. my hand is now slow to regersture to heat. that is not good.
for those who remember when i had that chemical burn a while back on my hand. well it has gone now, but left affects. my hand is now slow to regersture to heat. that is not good.
tabby - I think you’ve got my meaning. My husband had zero experience with small children when we met. Before I agreed to marry him, we spent a weekend visiting friends who have quadruplets. They were 2 years old at the time. I figured if he could handle that without “losing his cool” he could make it as a father. By that point in life, I realized I didn’t want to be childless, but neither did I want to be a single parent. It was a pretty good test, as he did a fairly good job at fathering. (No one is perfect!)
Ouch. Tabby, Be very careful! But it should get better with time. If I remember, it was a caustic cleaning solution you were using? That shouldn’t have done nerve damage so the skin should gradually get its sensitivity back.
Thanks Dawn i will be careful it was Mr. Clean that i was using. if felt better till i grabed the hot thing. lol
rmom and dawn i agree if a man is good with others kids he should be a gread/good dad. i have watched him with his Godchild and he is great with her im sure he will do fine.
i asked Ana if she was going to be good tonight and be nice. she told me “Tabby, im gonna be nice to your boyfriend” whats bad is that i blushed and giggled and told her thank you. shes so cute.
Thanks Dawn! Experience is a hard teacher, but effective - usually. Unfortunately, there are those who refuse to learn from their mistakes. I try to not fall into that category.
Dfrog - Yep, that’s about it. I will say some of my experience happened because I got what I thought I wanted, but found out later that path didn’t lead to where I wanted to go.
I tell my sons, “Learn from other’s people’s mistakes. It is a lot less expensive that way.”
I have always been good with kids, but I was selfish. I knew that travel and not being tied down was more important to me. Friends kept telling me. Oh, you’ll love having kids. And my answer was Yes, but what if I don’t. My first wife didn’t want children either. Later when she eventually asked for a divorce, I found out part of the reason was that she had changed her mind and instead of talking it over with me had just given subtle little hints that I didn’t catch. It still wouldn’t have change my mind, but discussion is better in a situation like that. my current wife and I would never have been in a relationship at any time other than now. She loves kids and has two grown kids. So, our one potential obstacle is not an issue. And I love her kids.
cleo - I think you have hit the nail on the head. My siblings have been selfish (for the most part) their whole lives. Now it is starting to come back to bite them. I’m glad you’ve got stepchildren you like (and hopefully, vice-versa). My aunt didn’t get married until she was almost 50, so only had stepchildren, and they were all grown & gone by that time. She died this winter, and we were all thankful that her stepson had power-of-attorney and took care of everything. She had dementia - big time - and so she had to be put in a facility. If she didn’t have stepchildren to take care of her, it would probably have fallen on the shoulders of her youngest sister. (A widowed, childless brother had already been taken care of in his last years by that sister & her husband. My parents at least were able to help out then, but couldn’t this go-around, since Dad had died, and Mom had her stroke.)
@Rmom, I read about your candleless birthday cake, and thought you were lucky that Tom & Ray Malliozzi (sp?) of Car Talk fame weren’t there. Just the other week they had an encore of the show when they talked about how they swiped and ate Grammy”s birthday cake, and even praised it to the morose family on the way out.
I can’t find the full story transcribed, but it’s mentioned here
Hi all!
I know I am a bit young for kids, but I don’t want any. I will relish the the peace and tranquility, particularly in the late night hours. I have many siblings, so I am bound to have trillions of nieces and nephews, if I so feel the urge to spend time with kids.
tabby - Actually, my wife’s kids, both in their twenties, are not even interested in serious relationships at the moment. They are both very independent and self sufficient. Both have to many things they want to experience first before getting in a long term relationship.
bmonk - They would have had a fight on their hands, if they’d try to take MY cake! I could have used that cane my sister brought to beat them over their heads.
@tabby, last night you were worried about talking to yourself. Other people talk to themselves. Even Gandalf did in the Lord of the Rings–he said it was just talking to the wisest person around.
I always say as long as I don’t argue with myself…or maybe lose the arguments…or get too mad at myself…then talking to myself is just fine. Right?
@Rmom, I think that when they got the cake, the other family wasn’t there yet? And Click and Clack were just not thinking to wonder why this restaurant might have a spare cake on hand.
Bmonk right. lol i was just joking around i was tired and had had a good day. so i was in a good mode at the time. and was stiring up trouble at that time. sorry. no need to worrie i talk to myslef all the time and im staying Tabby Lynn i promise you all
i need to get off for a while i have a lot to do and i need to get it done. but before i go i want to leave you something that a dear friend gave me. it is just to good not to share with you.
johnny - You would think I’d have a lot of nephews and/or nieces with four siblings, but I’m the only one who ended up having children. My sister did borrow my boys from time to time, so they tolerate her better than a couple of my brothers, but they prefer to stay away from all of their extended family if they can. But you are wise to not have children, if you really don’t want them. Children should be loved and wanted.
Shika, I enjoyed reading about the pastor talking about the wrath of God during a thunderstorm. Reminds me of the time the Abbot gave a talk on silence.
Except that about the time he started, the rain on the roof did also, drowning him out completely. And it lasted a minute or so longer than his conference did.
A silent discussion of silence!
Edit: Of course, I must admit (full disclosure laws…) that the Abbot did give the talk again a few weeks later. And we actually heard it that time…
RRAmom! Rest assured if I did have any kids, I would love the little bugger(s) dearly. Plus, I am young enough to be able to change my mind down the road, if I so choose.
Like the Christmas party (with the local house of Sisters) here that got blizzarded out–nobody even got here to join us in our prime rib and baked potatoes and all.
Until Greyhound decided it was too bad to continue.
So, where do you put up 40 or so people for the night in a small town? At the local monastery, if there is one.
And we even had hot food ready: prime rib, baked potatoes….
“The master ordered the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedgerows and make people come in, that my home may be filled. For, I tell you, none of those who were invited will taste my dinner.’ ” (Luke 14:23-24)
johnny - That is one advantage you males have over us females. The timeframe for parenthood isn’t as short. I had my firstborn the week after I turned 30. Looking back, that wasn’t too bad, although 25 might have been better, if the situation was right. But my hubby & I didn’t marry until we were 25, and waited until he made more money than I did, so I would be able to stay home with our kids. Having more energy would have been nice, but that doesn’t compare to being able to stay home with them. Rotten thing is that both my hubby & I loved going on roller coasters, but by the time the kids were tall enough to go on the good rides, our bodies started having nasty after effects from some of the rides.
I am waiting for my grass to dry so I can mow it. It is long and it is a hot day and I just know this is going to be a miserable experience. The only bright spot is that I will be able to jump in the lake afterwards.
I count my blessings daily. If I do meet someone and we decide to have kids, I will count some more blessings, but I would definitely wait until I was financially ready.
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRR, all ye Yappy Nuts! I be in port ta pick more rum! Can’t believe me & me darlin’ Joy been through so much o’ th’ stuff! I be droppin’ off some lunch fer ye landlubbers! Cracked Dungeness crab, steamed clams, hush puppies & a nice Riesling. Enjoy, me hearties!
Always look at the positives, Cleo.
Dry, if you are still around in an hour, could I solicit a wake-up call, or do we not want to disturb Doc?
At any rate, I am going to take a quick nap. BB in one hour.
Just popped in to say hi again. I can only be here off and on so I am not ignoring anyone if I don’t post more often. It will probably be this way for the next week or two at least.
I just went out to take the dog out for a short walk before I go back to sleep. I noticed some of the grass in my yard was starting to crawl up the steps and there was a strange purplish glow around the edges. Doc are you sure there hasn’t been a leak somewhere? Even a tiny one? Either that or maybe I should break down and mow the lawn. Easier to blame the coffee.
@Dry–the lake might make the mowing easy–unless, of course, it’s full of that strange purplish grass serenasakitty was describing. Maybe we’d better call doc over to consult and find out if it’s dangerous…
bmonk, your grass ate your edger? We better get Doc in there for consultation! Something tells me his nuclear coffee is spreading havoc across the land!!
That was weird! I typed that comment once, Got a security warning asking me if I wanted to save the file or run it. I’d close that window and try again and it still did that!???
Oops, I was already awake too. I barely got to sleep. Remember the peace and tranquility I was talking about. Yeah, I don’t get that too often at home, lol.
RRAmom, that is a good one. Think I heard it before, and it still made me laugh.
Jfri you keep running out every time i come back whats with that?
Rmom that was a good one thanks
Marg he doesnt like cake i called a friend of ours and she called his mom lol the only cake he eats is cookie cake so my dad is suposed to pick up one.
Dry its just so good to see you here.
Doc Love you my tribe dad. and we know why you run out. lol :D
RRAmom - Some of my strongest memories of growing up are of being on my grandpa’s farm in Alberta and watching the storm approach. Dark clouds and lightening way off in the distance gradually moving our way.
Back from the hospital. Blood tests, MRI and Pri Physician Consult. No eardrum injection until tomorrow. I think they like to prolong the agony sometimes!
Got to eat, shower, get dressed and than I am of to league pool(billiards). But I have to try to catch up here first.
Cleo, I was the one who mentioned the storms approaching. Were you in the* pirates rum? * Huh? Fess up!
JFri said I was so I might as well shift the blame elsewhere! LOL!
Here y’all are talking about watching the storms roll in - and that’s what’s been happening here. We just got drenched! (Well, the yard did - luckily the roof isn’t leaking) Strong winds, but we didn’t get any hail, although there was some detected in this storm. It was interesting watching the dark clouds build - we have a great view here.
Akenta - No, I hadn’t read it. I don’t tend to read too many of the editorial type cartoons (Mallard Fillmore is my main exception). I guess I’d better not comment here on the comments there, or I’d be breaking the rules. Guess you know where I stand, anyway.
I have a little time to kill, while my family is out at the swimming pool. I’m being a good girl sitting in a nice air conditioned house drinking chocolate milk, and getting ready to laugh if any one comes in with a sunburn.
Dry - Sorry, the color of your avatar matched RRAmom’s and I am usually making that mistake with **Shika. And for crying out loud, no….I was not in the rum. Can’t you tell the difference between gin and rum. Sheesh.
Dry, I was posting earlier because I had time to kill at the Emergency waiting room. Not for me OR the baby & all is well. Then I was driving forever so NO TEXTING!! And just because you didn’t think of it doesn’t make it CHEATING!!!
Okay, cleo, I’ve changed my avatar again, so you can tell it apart from Dry’s. I promised johnny that I’d show more of my surroundings, so this is the view out of my kitchen window. (The brown spot is a branch that got broken in a storm earlier this year.)
Very nice Rmom! Lots of trees and plants makes me feel more at home. (For each house I can see I’d like to see 20-30 trees.) Trees usually make better neighbors.
Yeah well I misspelled sweet, too! But you didn’t notice that, either. This stupid Blackberry is now keeping me from seeing what I’m typing & it won’t let me edit my comments. Abd that q was supposed to be a #
*:-P
Shika, docT isn’t here but after months of studying every minute detail of his persona & psyche, I feel qualified in answering on his behalf. That answer is
Just got back from a refreshing swim, although I have never seen the lake as warm as it was today at 74 degrees.
Actually JFri, sawdust reduced down becomes wood alcohol and that is the equivalent of vodka, but coke will make anything sweet. Give me Meyer’s rum. I like a nice sweet dark rum. I really like Barbancourt, but I wouldn’t mix that with anything.
Shika, Shika, Shikasigh Don’t you EVER read my posts? I am visiting my brand new granddaughter in SoCal! And I SAID I had been studying docT for months!!
Dry, it was a lame computer poltergeist story! Still glad to see me?
Shika, I had a good day!! And how are you? I will take some pastries, and would you like some raspberry tea to go along with that? I make a MEAN raspberry tea!
Shika, no the tea is just GOOD!! Mean means really GOOD! Since you’re in Canada you may not know that term! Plus i have a teenager and his friends so I tend to use teen speak sometimes!! LOL
Just saw your last post Shika, and I know you meant me!! :-D
I had a voice mail from Purulator today telling me they are hold a parcel for me an hour away from where I live. It’s got to be a wrong number, but I can’t get anyone on the phone, and when I go on line, they tell me I have to call the phone # that I can’t get an answer on.

I just made a double-layer chocolate cake last night. Our oldest will be 20 tomorrow, and since his dad won’t be around ON his birthday, I made it early so my hubby could have some cake, because there won’t be any left by Friday.

dawn it feels normal, just when i grabed the hot tray it took longer for me to notice it was hot then it should have.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
tabby - I think you’ve got my meaning.
DawnAvril over 15 years ago
Ouch. Tabby, Be very careful! But it should get better with time. If I remember, it was a caustic cleaning solution you were using? That shouldn’t have done nerve damage so the skin should gradually get its sensitivity back.

tabby - Listen to Dawn - she’s right about your hand. (She’s right about a lot of things, I’ve noticed!)

And I love her kids.
tabbylynn over 15 years ago
Cleo aww how sweet its good that you love her kids and you get the grandkids that come form it. how nice.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
cleo - I think you have hit the nail on the head.

Hello, all and sundry!

I have many siblings, so I am bound to have trillions of nieces and nephews, if I so feel the urge to spend time with kids.
bmonk over 15 years ago
@johnnydoc, borrowed kids are the best kind…you can always hand them back to the parents after they’re all riled up! LOL!
cleokaya over 15 years ago
tabby - Actually, my wife’s kids, both in their twenties, are not even interested in serious relationships at the moment. They are both very independent and self sufficient. Both have to many things they want to experience first before getting in a long term relationship.

@tabby, last night you were worried about talking to yourself. Other people talk to themselves. Even Gandalf did in the Lord of the Rings–he said it was just talking to the wisest person around.

Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
johnny - You would think I’d have a lot of nephews and/or nieces with four siblings, but I’m the only one who ended up having children.

And we actually heard it that time…

bmonk over 15 years ago
Nope, it really did happen!
Other strange things have happened too.
Smiley Rmom over 15 years ago
johnny - That is one advantage you males have over us females.

I had a voice mail from Purulator today telling me they are hold a parcel for me an hour away from where I live. It’s got to be a wrong number, but I can’t get anyone on the phone, and when I go on line, they tell me I have to call the phone # that I can’t get an answer on.
sigh. I’ll try again tomorrow.
Shikamoo Premium Member over 15 years ago
Good Night everyone. It looks pretty quiet, so I’m heading to bed for real. I’m exhausted tonight.
