For breakfast homemade cinnamon rolls and cake donuts. My homemade granola, with fresh berries and bananas. I used to play a lot of pool, but have had less and less of a chance as the years have gone by.
bigg - Howdy, it was toasty here today as well, but I liked it. I was beginning to think that our hot weather was gone. Our nights and mornings are very fall like and the sun sits very low on the horizon.
Gooooooood morning Cleo,Terry, and bigg! I’ll have a homemade cinnamon roll, and some Earl Grey tea. Are any of those cake doughnuts chocolate by chance?
Marg - Hello dear. I just melted some chocolate just for you. Give the chocolate time to harden. I dipped several in case others would like them that way as well.
Lonewolf -Booker Noe’s is a premium aged bourbon that has an alcohol content between 121 and 127 proof. Both JFri and I are partial to it. It is so smooth you would not believe that it packs such a punch.
I guess this is good night all. Since hymenoxis hasn’t been around, look out for the beer and bourbon bottles lying around the floor. Oh and watch out for JFri. He’s around here someplace too.
Glad you’re up MoPar but I’m dragging. Short day for me at least. Would have been on sooner, but computer is acting a little strange. Running a virus scan atm, so that will slow my rounds down a little.
Good Morning everyone! It’s after 8 in the morning here in Clayton County, GA. and guess what? Because of the ongoing rains here (which started last night), the boss at the retail store where I worked called me to take a 3-day weekend! Because of the heavy downpours, there’s not going to be any business today. See? This is NOT like those MEGA corporate stores that’ll fire you even if you miss one day of work because of an act of nature! Well now I’m with you all for the weekend.
Doc—Congrats on your change in work status. It really doesn’t change your yapping amount just the timing of your yapping!! lol Most work at least a 40 hour week anyhoo.
Good Morning Tribe!
I’m SO glad it’s Friday!
Doc, don’t mess with your coffee, it might mutate.
I got up very early, but I’m just now getting a chance to yap on here. Actually, I can only yap for a few minutes. Still have to get the last 2 girls to their school and go grocery shopping.
Doc–With each time we run the finished product through the process, it will get stronger and more powerfull. Set it for how many times you want. I put a small recycle set-up on this end for that purpose!! It gets the most use on Mondays and when I do something to upset Wolfangil! lol
Good Morning all. And thumbs up Doctortoon on your promotion (temporary or not). Either way it is a sign that they value your work. As to your comment about caffeinated water. Å few years ago (here in the King of coffee states) they began bottling caffeinated water. I haven’t heard anything about it in a while, but you can research it if you need to tweak your blend.
Now hold on a second here, Doc! Does this mean I don’t get my Stouffer’s Stuffed Peppers anymore? And does it mean I don’t get to wake you up anymore? You march right back in there and tell them you want your old job back!! Right now!
Good Morning Cleo—Like the Cowboy coffee I sometimes brew, the more you reheat it the stronger it gets. Was the same with Army coffee when we were out on fields maneuvers. Kind of like this……
Thanks Cleo. I’m trying to relax here. Later in the pm we’ll be heading down again, when my one son gets home. This is going to be hard on him, real hard, but he wants to do it.
Arrrrrgh! Ye maties, don’t forget that September 19 is Talk Like A Pirate Day! It be just around the corner, ye know. Scratch it into the mast with yer hook! Teach it to ye parrot! Download the Pirate Curse app to yer cell phone! Scribe it onto the corner of yer treasure map!
Aw, thank you Terry! I do think our realTribe here are all sweet and kind. It wasn’t something that was spread amongst us, it’s just how we really are.
AAAAARRRRRRRR, THAR ye be, Joy, me darlin”!! bmonk be right ye know! Talk like a pirate day be upon us soon! So I bribg ye lessons ta help ye, one and all! Joy, come sail wi’ me, me luv!!
Well look at this the old horn dog is back. Uh … I mean the pirate. The other description is too vague and could have referred to any number of people here.
AAAARRRRRRR, Joy, me luv! Th’ Black Raven be fully loaded an’ ready fer ye and our guests ta board! We be sailin’ ta the sunset in th’ land o’ white sand, blue waters an’ rum aplenty! Marg, I be tryin’ ta remember ta post th’ link closer ta Talk Like A Pirate Day! ALL ABOARD YE LANDLUBBERS!!
Marg our falls here are usually a lot of rain, but the leaves do smell nice! You must be in a hurry for fall! Those apples look good, if I had an appetite!
Akenta I was going to ask what you’re doing here so early, but now I remember! This Friday is so strange, my dad and I should be grocery shopping,. etc.
We are going to pick up a real treat at 1:00, homemade kringles. I ordered three different flavors from this nice Swedish man that makes them in his home. He also makes wedding cakes. For those of you who are unfamiliar with kringles, they are the only coffee cake shaped like a toilet seat. They are a specialty of WI bakeries, and we missed having them since we left the Midwest. Heard about this gentleman while hiking (and falling) the other day, and I called as soon as I got his name and phone number. I ordered butter pecan, almond, and apricot pecan. I’ll leave one of each here for sampling.
im going to stop coming here if you guys don’t stop talking about food your killing me here. sigh. never going to lose the weight if i keep eatting. and u keep talking like this. i need to lose it so my ankles stop hurtting and all. love you guys still and i cant leave u…. or can i?

Lonewolf - Have a good afternoon. I am having a rather leisurely afternoon, moving a few hoses around on a couple of banks that need watering and reading a good English mystery. Tonight, I am making dinner, but I have no pressing chores. I like having time for a good read.
Hi Dawn, I’m not really getting too much time for myself. The girls are in 3 different schools and they start and finish at all different times. I do what I can in between dropping off and picking up. That’s why I’m so glad it’s Friday! I’m already looking forward to the 3 day weekend for Labor Day.
Hi everybody. Just got back in from work. Worked so much this week that every hour I worked today was overtime. Ten in all, even with taxes, this will be a nice haul. The downside… so very … (yawn)… sleepy.
Naptime! bbl.
Dawn - Yes, me too. The book I am reading now is actually a Scotish mystery. I love Ian Rankin’s series on Rebus. Since I have read most of them I just discovered a similar author who also has a detective in the same police force. The author’s name is Stuart MacBride.
Hi, tribe! I’m back!!!
Just took short overnight visit to my hubby’s trailer. It was overdue for some maid work. It was a nice visit - went out for a good steak last night to a restaurant with character.
Carmy - I haven’t made my gocomic rounds yet, either. Just got caught up reading the BT posts from yesterday & today.
Doc - Congratulations! I don’t envy the managing part, but the increase in your paycheck will come in handy if you need to replace a bed, a door, trash cans,…
tabby - You’ll probably be able to eat more with all those stairs. I lost weight the first year I went to college, because I had the stairs to run between classes. (Only 5 minutes in between, and since I was single, I just HAD to talk to the cute guys, too.) That was the only year of my life where I actually liked my figure! Is English 101 AND 102 required, or just one of the two for your degree? If just either one, and not both, be thankful for an easy class, because you’ll have plenty of ones that will be harder.
Joy & Dry - Guess my filter didn’t have a problem, because I was able to read the page your posts were on just fine.
Joy - This is for your arm;
Ma’at - I don’t know the area around the zoo extremely well, just the major streets. You must have been just west of K-15 from your description. I’m east of Derby, and if I have to go west, it is either through Mulvane or Wichita, since the route between Derby & Haysville isn’t the greatest. My Dad grew up in Reno county (and his family from about 1880’s) and my Mom grew up in Sumner county, so I’m pretty familiar with the area around Wichita.
Good afternoon, Akenta & Shika!
My hubby is a great cook, but he doesn’t clean. So, while he’s staying at the trailer, he uses paper plates, plastic forks, etc., and he will take out his trash once a week. (He usually just warms things up in the trailer’s microwave or toaster oven, and does the major cooking here at our house.) But the sheets needed to be changed, the freezer/refrigerator needed defrosting, the shower & toilet scrubbed, the George Foreman grill washed, the countertops cleaned, the floor vacuumed… I think you see why I say the “maid’s work”.
Cleo, I used to go to “Pépé’s Tacos” in Chicago and they had the BEST chilé con queso. I discovered how they made it. They use enchilada sauce and chihuahua cheese. All you have to do is heat up the sauce, cut up the cheese in big chunks and put it in with the sauce. Keep it on a low flame (or setting) until the cheese melts a bit. That kind of cheese gets stringy like. Grab some tortilla chips and dip away. Delish!!
RRAmom- My wife and I pretty much take on the chores to be done in a manner of dividing things up as they come around. If she is cooking, I do the clean up. If I do the cooking, I still do the clean up but she takes care of other things that I don’t do, like dusting and watering the indoor plants. We take turns vacuuming and our outdoor work is pretty much divided into her doing the tending of weeds and dividing flowers, etc. I mow and prune and water, etc. She can go all day (human dynamo). I like time to do this and to read, etc.
Carmy - What is “chihuahua cheese”? The only “chihuahua” connotation I know of is a dog breed, and that gives a WHOLE different meaning to “chihuahua cheese!”
Cleo - Let’s say that at 25, my future hubby was a better negotiator than I was (I heard my biological clock ticking…)
He said he’d help cook, as long as he didn’t have to help clean. My Dad didn’t cook nor clean, and neither did his, so I figured it was a step up. My hubby is great at cooking and did most of it, until he started living away during the week. He’s also very talented with computers & automobiles, plus did all the plumbing & electrical work when we built our house (a lot of the framing, etc., too). He’s currently working probably about 60 hours a week (straight salary), and since he has been earning all our money since I quit employment to be Mom, I need to contribute to the household in other ways. At least he isn’t picky about my housekeeping, which is great, because that isn’t an area that I’m really good at doing. As long as he doesn’t complain when I haven’t cleaned, I’m okay with it.
JFri - Steak & potato for me, I’ll skip on the Booker’s & zucchini. Somewhere recently I saw a quote I liked: “You can tell a man has no friends when he’s at the store buying zucchini.” The reason many people in small towns keep their car windows rolled up & the doors locked in the summer, is to keep people from putting zucchini in their cars when they’re not looking.
RRAmom, chihuahua cheese is a white cheese. I’m not sure how they make it. It’s kind of like mozzarella, but not. It’s called chihuahua cheese because it is made in Mexico in the state of Chihuahua. It has NOTHING to do with dogs. I buy it here in FL at a little Mexican store. I also buy corn tortillas there. Milagro corn tortillas are the best, in my opinion.
Carmy - I figured the cheese came from the same area of Mexico as the dogs, but I’m not too great at Mexican geography. I know some of the authentic Mexican restaurants in Kansas use a white cheese, but never knew the name of it. I’ll have to look at some of the stores in my area that carry a lot of Mexican foods, sounds delicious.
Carmy I’m not going to restaurants these days unless someone is treating me. (I can’t afford to). Luckily for me, lots of people treat me, but usually in a different area of town.
If I can get someone to treat me at the Tex Mex, I’ll let you know so you can advise me on what to try.
Yesterday, I pigged-out! I had a big WI meal at a friend’s home, and then three hours later, I had another full meal in a restaurant with another friend from church. Plus dessert!
For some strange reason, I haven’t been very hungry today. LOL
Haven’t found much here, strip-wise, upon which to comment - but, just replied to a msg received from the always-gracious Drystyha on Pib’s Couch (thinking maybe Dry might just see it HERE first!)
Any time risitas! You may not have heard so I will fill you in. Dry’s dad took a bad fall in his home earlier this week and he is in the hospital in serious condition. Your hug earlier will be greatly appreciated by her!
Hi Carmy! I’m going away tomorrow and will be away on and off until next Saturday. I just remembered to pack. Then I checked my emails and saw that I have to fix my course schedules- but the University website is down. I also have dishes in the sink….
Cleo - Thanks for the name of the cheese - Quesa Fresco. How is it used?
I actually prefer cheddar for tacos, but our favorite place makes a really good cheese dip with a white cheese, half & half, and some chilis in it. Man, were they busy tonight! 30-40 in a back room, all the tables filled in the main area, and several parties waiting, plus the owner was having a wedding reception in her apartment above the restaurant! We’re used to it being busy, but this was extra busy. However, they do a great job of never running out of food, so they do pretty good handling crowds.
MoPar - Thanks. I like a good cigar. I don’t have one everyday, but I don’t know if you heard, but when we were putting in our deck a few years ago, I put a small deck up on the highest point overlooking our lake. I call it my cigar deck.
carmy Funny you should ask about eating! I just got a takeout salad, big one, dumped it into a big bowl, so I could stir it and get the dressing spread, poured on a bunch of dressing, and could only eat half of it, the rest will probably be pitched because it will be soggy by tmr. but at least I ate something, right?
One thing for sure, I should be a skinny nub in a few days!
I think Panela is probably what I’ve seen, because it almost seemed like mozzarella, but not exactly. I was trying to figure out what kind of cheese they probably use in the cheese dip at our favorite place, but was also curious about the white cheese used on tacos that I’ve encountered at restaurants.
Dry, another important tidbit, don’t forget the rest of your life. It still goes on, and then you miss something big. Later on, you look at what has changed: When did this happen?!?!
MoPar - I chose to put my cigar deck far enough away where the smoke wouldn’t likely blow in the house. Our main deck faces North and the lake. Most often the wind comes out of the Northwest and with the doors open it’s tough to keep it from smelling up the house. Fortunately, my wife likes the smell of cigars.
Good song choices, by the way. I haven’t figured out how to clip and paste, or whatever you do, to include the link with your post, or I would reciprocate. I have a Mac as well, so it might be different than how a PC does it.
Alright, sorry I wasn’t really around consistently to chat. Now I must leave early tonight. Gonna do some late night studying for the hunter’s exam tomorrow. Good night all, and Peace & love.
MoPar- A typical mixed party! I don’t mind the smell of a good cigar- outside and away from me, but cigarette smoke and some cigar smoke gives me a headache- so I’m with the cheese group right now.
Except I think one of the cheese talkers is smoking a cigar. Oh well, it’s virtual, so enjoy!
Cleo-Mopar—I used to smoke a cigar every now and then. I quit cigars when I quit smoking cigarettes. After twenty-some years, I quit cold turkey. It’ll be a year next month!
Shika - I am lucky to live in an area where a lot of really good small farm cheeses are made. Various Goudas are popular. I like aged and also jalpeno and cumin Goudas. Another dairy makes a Black Mombasa and a ladysmith with chives, both white cheeses and very flavorful.
Dry - johnny does have some great advice, if only most people his age (and older) were that wise!
I remember my sister being upset with me that I didn’t revolve my whole schedule around my mom. (This was after Mom had her strokes, and was living in her own home again, thanks to my sister being able & willing to live with her. During the times Mom was in the hospital, I DID spend most of my time with her.) With homeschooling, I can cancel school once in a while, but I do have to keep those days to a minimum. Thankfully, Dad left enough $ for Mom, which allows me to hire help, so my sister isn’t requred to be there 24/7 (and she’s getting paid for her help). I told my sister that I couldn’t neglect my husband & kids for however long until Mom passes away, because if I did, they might not be around afterwards. (Mom had her debilitating stroke over two years ago.) I’m willing to drop everything when Mom has an emergency, but I need a balance with the other areas of life when it turns out to be a marathon. I’m the youngest out of 5, and the only one married and/or with children, so even though I have POA, etc., my siblings have more time available to spend with Mom now. (I spent more time with her in the 20 years previous than they did though.) I’m thankful that Mom has seemed to understand that my family needs me, and doesn’t expect me to spend huge amounts of time with her.
Lonewolf - Good for you. I never have smoked cigarettes. I like cigars because, like a wine, the blends very so much. I tend to like robustos and maduros.
In the early 70s I lived with my girlfriend and a friend that we met well spending the winter camping in the Florida Keys. They both were heavy smokers and would smoke even more when around each other.
Cleo & Mopar—Thanks to both of you. I am proud that I was able to do it without help. Being a ex cigarette smoker I think that continuing to smoke cigars would only lead to cigarettes again. And I am better off without the cigars.
Terry I lost a dear friend back in my Tennessee years to lung cancer. And I am in healthcare so it is always great to see/hear someone steer away from smoke of any kind. But, I no longer have any other vices so I decided 3 or 4 cigars a month would probably be OK.
Lonewolf - I am convinced that if you just set your mind on a path you can reach a realistic goal by keeping focused on your objective. I was not really overweight, I thought, as people didn’t see me as heavy, but since April I have lost 26 pounds and feel like I have so much energy. And like you I just decided to do it. I changed how I ate and dropped snack foods, like chips. I eat one chip and I can’t stop. Now, if people are serving them I make a point of not putting a single chip into my mouth. I am also eating fruit, which I tended to avoid, now I crave it.
TerryMy wife is the same age as me (actually 2 days older) but she is so innocent it is incredible. She has never smoked anything of any kind ever. She has never tasted beer and has never tasted coffee. I however, did enough for both of us, but by the grace of God I got over it (except for my coffee .) I say again, I am a blessed man.
Then there’s doc’s coffee. That requires a hazmat permit.
RRAMom you have the flexibility of siblings to relie on. I am an only child, my fathers side of the family is very small, the only living relative is my cousin, his neice, also an only child who lost both her parents. We have our kids and my cousins kids and my cousins kids kids. And my cousin lives in MD and her and her husband have traveled 3 1/2 hours each way twice now to be here in just 4 days and are coming again. .
Dry - I too am an only child. I have never felt deprived. I was fortunate growing up to have to female cousins, close to my own age. They lived in BC, Canada and I in North Dakota. I would never see them until Summer. Their mom & my mom were sisters and we would spend the whole summer every year on our grandpa’s farm in Alberta. They became as close as sisters. Now one lives about 6 hours from me in Eastern BC and the other lives in Houston. We still talk every week and they have always been there for me in emergencies.
MoPar - I have had 3 poor nights of sleep myself. I am staying up later lately because I can not seem to sleep. Part of it is that I cracked a rib about 10 days ago and I can not sleep on my right side without pain. That is how I usually sleep so it is a toss and turn sleep.
I know I’m going to miss someone, but we have a long day tmr. so to (((((((((((((((((((Cleo)))))))))))))))
(((((((((((((((((((Terry))))))))))))))))))
(((((((((((((((((((((MoPar))))))))))))))))
(((((((((((((((((((((((((Carmy)))))))))))))))
((((((((((((((((((((((Shika)))))))))))))))))))
Good night!
And Carmy I ate but not at all like I should have!
If I suddenly disappear, it is to watch a movie, which we be doing in the next few minutes. If I don’t talk to any of you until tomorrow, then have a good night and thanks for the company. I will try to post, but if I don’t I wish you the best.
Really nice to hear from you - JFri told me about what happened to your dad. How is he doing? AND, how are YOU holding up under the strain? Improving, I hope & pray, though I know that you’re a strong individual, and you’ll be making sure that your dad’s receiving the best care available.
Meanwhile, I’m still trying to get through all of the posts pouring into Pib this weekend - unreal!!! Boy, there really are lots of new posters & writers there these days. There IS such a thing as too much of a good thing, I guess!
Mopar–I was checked for diabetes, TB, osteoporosis, pneumonia, cholestorol, and a bunch of things I can’t remember. They took so much blood for test that my toes were flat for a week!!! lol
No problems with any of the tests and the doctor was surprised given my age! But none of that helped my health issue either!! Go figure.
Mopar—No only about the “cowboy coffee” I drink in RL. They are not happy how much I drink, but I don’t have high blood pressure either and I sleep like a rock unless the meds are giving me problems.
I’ve always been able to drink coffee right before bed and it does not keep me awake. Like you, I just don’t know when to call it a night and go to bed!!
(Pulling a Shika here…)
Dry - I know it has to be tough on you to not have more family who can help. I know a little of what that feels like, because when my Dad went into the hospital, I was the only family member for two or more days. My mom was sick, my sister lived & worked in NJ, one brother lived & worked in AZ, one brother was estranged from our family (due to a conflict with our Dad), and one was just difficult to get a hold of. Sometimes I’m grateful for my siblings, and sometimes they’re such pains in the butt that I think it would be easier to handle it all myself. The best advice I can give is to let friends & extended family help wherever you can let them, and let God give you His strength to deal with the rest. I’ll keep you in my prayers!
To all of you, thank you for your support! I truly appreciate it, and RRAMom, I have people calling ofering help and seeing how things are, like I said, when the phone rings, I’m never sure what or who it is! I suppose you know that feeling!
Mopar
All my father ever wanted to do was to give his best girl a red mustang for her first car. I never had one until I inherited his when he died. I was also the one he talked to about his Korean war experiences. Thanks for the commercial.

Hi, tribe! I don’t envy the managing part, but the increase in your paycheck will come in handy if you need to replace a bed, a door, trash cans,… tabby - You’ll probably be able to eat more with all those stairs.

(He usually just warms things up in the trailer’s microwave or toaster oven, and does the major cooking here at our house.) But the sheets needed to be changed, the freezer/refrigerator needed defrosting, the shower & toilet scrubbed, the George Foreman grill washed, the countertops cleaned, the floor vacuumed… I think you see why I say the “maid’s work”.

deep mechanical breathing Just a small joke (Willys Jeep?), very small.
carmy about 15 years ago
Cleo, I used to go to “Pépé’s Tacos” in Chicago and they had the BEST chilé con queso. I discovered how they made it. They use enchilada sauce and chihuahua cheese. All you have to do is heat up the sauce, cut up the cheese in big chunks and put it in with the sauce. Keep it on a low flame (or setting) until the cheese melts a bit. That kind of cheese gets stringy like. Grab some tortilla chips and dip away. Delish!!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
RRAmom- My wife and I pretty much take on the chores to be done in a manner of dividing things up as they come around. If she is cooking, I do the clean up. If I do the cooking, I still do the clean up but she takes care of other things that I don’t do, like dusting and watering the indoor plants. We take turns vacuuming and our outdoor work is pretty much divided into her doing the tending of weeds and dividing flowers, etc. I mow and prune and water, etc. She can go all day (human dynamo). I like time to do this and to read, etc.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
carmy - You are making me hungry. My wife and I are making Cauliflower and Tomato Couscous with Harissa and grilled lamb chops.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Carmy - What is “chihuahua cheese”? The only “chihuahua” connotation I know of is a dog breed, and that gives a WHOLE different meaning to “chihuahua cheese!”

Medium rare steak for me, extra grilled zuchinis and half a baked potato- oh heck- a whole potato.
Hold the Bookers. I have to go easy on thedrinks. water on ice would be great.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Cleo - Let’s say that at 25, my future hubby was a better negotiator than I was (I heard my biological clock ticking…) He said he’d help cook, as long as he didn’t have to help clean.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
JFri - Steak & potato for me, I’ll skip on the Booker’s & zucchini. Somewhere recently I saw a quote I liked: “You can tell a man has no friends when he’s at the store buying zucchini.” The reason many people in small towns keep their car windows rolled up & the doors locked in the summer, is to keep people from putting zucchini in their cars when they’re not looking.
carmy about 15 years ago
RRAmom, chihuahua cheese is a white cheese. I’m not sure how they make it. It’s kind of like mozzarella, but not. It’s called chihuahua cheese because it is made in Mexico in the state of Chihuahua. It has NOTHING to do with dogs. I buy it here in FL at a little Mexican store. I also buy corn tortillas there. Milagro corn tortillas are the best, in my opinion.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago

Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago

Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Carmy - I figured the cheese came from the same area of Mexico as the dogs, but I’m not too great at Mexican geography. I know some of the authentic Mexican restaurants in Kansas use a white cheese, but never knew the name of it. I’ll have to look at some of the stores in my area that carry a lot of Mexican foods, sounds delicious.

I’d head over to Pib more often, but I don’t have the time to read all those comments too, and I don’t follow the story,

Back from practice. He is getting good this year!!!
I’ve got a lot to catch up on here and my emails!!!

That’s OK - WE CAN’T FOLLOW THE STORY EITHER!!!
Maybe that’s why there are soooo many comments over there that have nothing to do with the story.
That’s MY excuse, anyhoo.

Any time risitas! You may not have heard so I will fill you in. Dry’s dad took a bad fall in his home earlier this week and he is in the hospital in serious condition. Your hug earlier will be greatly appreciated by her!

Hi johnny, MoPar and Ristas!
Hi Terry!
I’ve said hi to most all here, if not, I blame it on Mua. He’ll never know, LOL
RL gto pretty busy just now, but I have a little time before my wittle brain shuts down. :-)

Hi Carmy! I’m going away tomorrow and will be away on and off until next Saturday. I just remembered to pack. Then I checked my emails and saw that I have to fix my course schedules- but the University website is down. I also have dishes in the sink….
I think that’s what happened anyways.
If I disappear, you can usually count on a Shika!

MoPar - Your Glen Frey video was great and it does put one in a party mood. I am still waiting for JFri to pour me a Booker’s.

JFri - Thank you my friend.
MoPar - I am smoking a Rocky Patel Fusion.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Cleo - Thanks for the name of the cheese - Quesa Fresco. How is it used? I actually prefer cheddar for tacos, but our favorite place makes a really good cheese dip with a white cheese, half & half, and some chilis in it. Man, were they busy tonight! 30-40 in a back room, all the tables filled in the main area, and several parties waiting, plus the owner was having a wedding reception in her apartment above the restaurant! We’re used to it being busy, but this was extra busy. However, they do a great job of never running out of food, so they do pretty good handling crowds.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
RRAmom - Queso is really good on beans. Cotija is another white cheese that is kind of like a feta and Panela is somewhat like a mozzarella.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
MoPar - Thanks. I like a good cigar. I don’t have one everyday, but I don’t know if you heard, but when we were putting in our deck a few years ago, I put a small deck up on the highest point overlooking our lake. I call it my cigar deck.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
carmy Funny you should ask about eating!
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
I think Panela is probably what I’ve seen, because it almost seemed like mozzarella, but not exactly. I was trying to figure out what kind of cheese they probably use in the cheese dip at our favorite place, but was also curious about the white cheese used on tacos that I’ve encountered at restaurants.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
RRAmom - A good Mexican place would most likely use Queso Fresco, but a chain restaurant or drive in would probably use Monterey Jack.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago
Dry, another important tidbit, don’t forget the rest of your life. It still goes on, and then you miss something big. Later on, you look at what has changed: When did this happen?!?!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
MoPar - I chose to put my cigar deck far enough away where the smoke wouldn’t likely blow in the house. Our main deck faces North and the lake. Most often the wind comes out of the Northwest and with the doors open it’s tough to keep it from smelling up the house. Fortunately, my wife likes the smell of cigars.
Good song choices, by the way. I haven’t figured out how to clip and paste, or whatever you do, to include the link with your post, or I would reciprocate. I have a Mac as well, so it might be different than how a PC does it.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
* Yes Johnny!
(((((((((((((((((((johnny)))))))))))))))))
Such wise advice! How old are you really???!!! LOL!
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
cleo - I’m referring to family owned Mexican restaurants, not the chain ones.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Sorry guys, I’m totally clueless about cigars, except I know I can’t stand the smell.
johnnydoc5 about 15 years ago
Alright, sorry I wasn’t really around consistently to chat. Now I must leave early tonight. Gonna do some late night studying for the hunter’s exam tomorrow. Good night all, and Peace & love.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
RRAmom - I would guess Queso Fresco. It is a very common cheese in Mexican Groceries as is cotija.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
Salad sounds yummy! You would want to eat the way I did yesterday all the time. I could go for a nice salad right now.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
johnnyd - Goodnight and good luck.
Shikamoo Premium Member about 15 years ago
MoPar- A typical mixed party! I don’t mind the smell of a good cigar- outside and away from me, but cigarette smoke and some cigar smoke gives me a headache- so I’m with the cheese group right now.
Except I think one of the cheese talkers is smoking a cigar. Oh well, it’s virtual, so enjoy!

I love cheese of any kind. Yesterday, I had warm Brie with apricot jam on thinly sliced Granny Smith apple wedges.
Yum!
carmy about 15 years ago
Dry, I’m glad you were able to eat something. The salad was good for you, better than a bunch of junk food.
Goodnight johnny!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Cleo-Mopar—I used to smoke a cigar every now and then. I quit cigars when I quit smoking cigarettes. After twenty-some years, I quit cold turkey. It’ll be a year next month!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Shika - I am lucky to live in an area where a lot of really good small farm cheeses are made. Various Goudas are popular. I like aged and also jalpeno and cumin Goudas. Another dairy makes a Black Mombasa and a ladysmith with chives, both white cheeses and very flavorful.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago

Good night johnny I haaven’t been around much tonight either, and must soon sign off.
What happened to the party? I think we should take a rain check. Two people have left since I joined.
Hmmm. Maybe there’s a message there.;-D
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago

COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Cleo & Mopar—Thanks to both of you. I am proud that I was able to do it without help. Being a ex cigarette smoker I think that continuing to smoke cigars would only lead to cigarettes again. And I am better off without the cigars.

Terry I lost a dear friend back in my Tennessee years to lung cancer. And I am in healthcare so it is always great to see/hear someone steer away from smoke of any kind. But, I no longer have any other vices so I decided 3 or 4 cigars a month would probably be OK.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Good night, shika! Time for me to sign off as well.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Lonewolf - I am convinced that if you just set your mind on a path you can reach a realistic goal by keeping focused on your objective. I was not really overweight, I thought, as people didn’t see me as heavy, but since April I have lost 26 pounds and feel like I have so much energy. And like you I just decided to do it. I changed how I ate and dropped snack foods, like chips. I eat one chip and I can’t stop. Now, if people are serving them I make a point of not putting a single chip into my mouth. I am also eating fruit, which I tended to avoid, now I crave it.
SGIBeachbum about 15 years ago
TerryMy wife is the same age as me (actually 2 days older) but she is so innocent it is incredible. She has never smoked anything of any kind ever. She has never tasted beer and has never tasted coffee. I however, did enough for both of us, but by the grace of God I got over it (except for my coffee .) I say again, I am a blessed man.
Then there’s doc’s coffee. That requires a hazmat permit.

RRAMom you have the flexibility of siblings to relie on.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar—With the medical issues I’ve had lately, I worried about the lung cancer, emphysema, bronchitis and COPD.
ALL of those test were negative, so after twenty-some years of smoking you can imagine how lucky I feel.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
MoPar - I have had 3 poor nights of sleep myself. I am staying up later lately because I can not seem to sleep. Part of it is that I cracked a rib about 10 days ago and I can not sleep on my right side without pain. That is how I usually sleep so it is a toss and turn sleep.

Hey, Drystyha:
Really nice to hear from you - JFri told me about what happened to your dad. How is he doing? AND, how are YOU holding up under the strain? Improving, I hope & pray, though I know that you’re a strong individual, and you’ll be making sure that your dad’s receiving the best care available.
Meanwhile, I’m still trying to get through all of the posts pouring into Pib this weekend - unreal!!! Boy, there really are lots of new posters & writers there these days. There IS such a thing as too much of a good thing, I guess!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar–I was checked for diabetes, TB, osteoporosis, pneumonia, cholestorol, and a bunch of things I can’t remember. They took so much blood for test that my toes were flat for a week!!! lol
No problems with any of the tests and the doctor was surprised given my age! But none of that helped my health issue either!! Go figure.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Risitas—Like trying to keep up with this yappy bunch, huh?
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Cleo—Enjoy the movie.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar—No only about the “cowboy coffee” I drink in RL. They are not happy how much I drink, but I don’t have high blood pressure either and I sleep like a rock unless the meds are giving me problems.
I’ve always been able to drink coffee right before bed and it does not keep me awake. Like you, I just don’t know when to call it a night and go to bed!!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Mopar–The link isn’t working.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
(Pulling a Shika here…) Dry - I know it has to be tough on you to not have more family who can help.
((((Dry))))Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
To all of you, thank you for your support! I truly appreciate it, and RRAMom, I have people calling ofering help and seeing how things are, like I said, when the phone rings, I’m never sure what or who it is! I suppose you know that feeling!
