My county produces the largest supply of raspberries in the US, so I will contribute those, plus WA apples and small but wonderful mountain blueberries.
JFri You appear and disappear like a man on the run. Hmm, you are from Oregon, you most likely are a leftover fugitive linked to Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.
Great breakfast MoPar I know you made it last night, but I’m sure you have something fresh cooking this morning. I think I can be at your place in about 15 minutes :-)
As Paul Simon so very aptly put it, on a tune from the “Still Crazy After All These Beers” LP:
God bless the goods we were given.
God bless the U. S. of A.
And God bless our standard of livin’ -
Let’s keep it that way,
And we’ll all have a good time!
Suddenly, another lyric springs into a durn-near demento-ed head:
“I get Misty, just a-holdin’ yer paw!!!”
Once again, to Drystyha (according to The Etiquette of the Tribe, as well as my own concern & warm, fuzzy feelings for my dear friend & family):
Hi Tribe, It’s been a busy morning and I just had time to skim the comments and look at the new avatars. My wife got me hooked on a couple new games she’s been doing on facebook called Farm Town and Farm Ville. This is more time consumiing than doing the toons all day long. How has everybody been doing?
Good morning/afternoon all! What was a beautiful morning here, has become overcast, just like every other day of this crappy month. Never looked forward to September before…
Good Sunday all. Costco chicken with mac salad and fresh tomatoes for all.
Piers Anthony had a variation on this game in one of his books. The elements there were water, sand and fire. Too bad the merman played one way and the dragon played another. This misunderstanding led to dragon eats merman (oops).
Still quiet on the Big Top front I see. I’m here for a little while.
Went to the store to stock up on goodies for DA* *BEARS game on the boob tube tonight!!
Good Early Evening, Tribe
Just managed to pop in briefly, as I’ve been busy all weekend. I guess I’m going to have to skip Friday and Saturday (though I read the strip) and just start from here. I’m going to pop around toon world and see what I’ve missed, but will bounce back here periodically. Welcome to Requin. From a fairly new visitor to this site, I hope you like the company. TTFN
quick note to cleo. your post on C & H (where yukoner had folks listing their home areas) reminded me of my great vacation trip last fall. i spent a night in Jasper (the hotel had a great home brew but a lousy bed) and deliberately drove through princeton, bc (and had lunch at the local Dairy Queen) because my oldest nephew graduated from Princeton, NJ. i spent 3.5 weeks on what i refer to as my “Drive By tour of Western Canada” and enjoyed it more than almost anything i’ve done in my life.
yyyguy & RRAmom -Hello to you both. I like Canada a lot. A few years ago, when I was still working, I drove across the country and really enjoyed the scenery and people. Ontario was so huge and PEI so small, but every Province is so beautiful. The drive from Jasper to Princeton is pretty bleeep tough to beat.
Hi, cleo! I’ve barely been in Canada. Once, my in-laws drove me & my oldest son (then 3 yr old) across to see from the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. The HQ for the company my hubby works for is in Ontario (I think). So he’s been there, and maybe if he has to go again, I’ll get to go with him this time. Of course, that means I’ll need to get my passport updated as well.
hi cleo. i spent a week or so driving around in the rockies, up the icefields parkway from canmore and banff to jasper then into bc, passing kamloops, and lillooet on the way through whistler to vancouver. i didn’t see princeton until the way back, but have a lovely photo of a rainbow that showed up as i was entering the similkameen valley. i eventually meandered through the okanagan back up to mt. revelstoke before driving south to the crowsnest pass to get back to alberta.
further to last post, i haven’t yet seen eastern canada, but intend to do so in the next few years. i’ve been as far as the eastern townships on the south shore of the st lawrence river in quebec, and can hardly wait to see the maritimes and newfoundland & labrador.
k just wanted to pop in and out to tell yuo all that college has not killed me yet. but i have to get back to homework. peace and love all. (((((DRY))))))
yyyguy - You will enjoy the maritimes. I love the pubs there and often they have bands playing maritime music, which gives one the feel of being in Scotland or Ireland.
Actually, RRAmom, i AM Canadian (to riff on an old beer commercial). i’ve lived on the northwest edge of Toronto, ON for over 5 decades, now.
as i get older, i find more time (and spare cash) for travelling, and will eventually see this country from coast to coast to coast (only have one more to go). when i finally stop putting it off and get my passport, i’ll also visit more of the USA. i’d love to see the grand canyon, and mount rushmore (and stone mountain, GA as well).
there’s also a spot on the lewiston side of the bridge to the border crossing that i need to go to in order to finally get the photo i want of the niagara river reaching lake ontario.
the only bad part of this is, now that i’ve caught up on the funnies i have to decide between catching up on puzzles as well or taking a break to deal with reality for a while.
yyyguy - Sorry I misunderstood. Thought you were from the U.S. I’m hoping I’ll get a little more time to travel in the next few years. I’ve been a full-time mom (including homeschooling) since our oldest was born 20 years ago. Our youngest is starting his last year of high school, so I’ll have a different occupation next year. At least they’re old enough now for me to take some trips without them, but with teaching, I can only be gone for so long. I’m hoping to just do substitute teaching after I’m done with homeschooling, so I’ll have time to join my hubby on his business trips.
Lonewolf - Sounds pretty good. I’ll have some of that virtual corn on the cob, since I can’t have it anymore in RL due to medical problems. I can contribute some homemade rolls - very light & fluffy. The lemon meringue pie sound wonderful - no one except me in my family likes it, so it is a rare treat.
Lonewolf - A little JD would hit the spot with me also, thank you. And when you’re food is ready I will plate up with ribs, salad, green beans and corn on the cob. At this time of year, tomatoes and corn on the cob are at the top of my list. They are useless the rest of the year, but now they are stellar.
hi Dry. NO WORRIES!
i’m not about to forget Ithaca, though it starts to look like i won’t visit until next year. i’m still procrastinating regarding the passport, but my oldest nephew is getting married next year in Princeton, NJ so i will definitely have it by then (and Ithaca is sort of on the way).
thanks for the drink, terry, and i’m thinking i may have some of the corn on the cob as well. one of my favourite foods, to tell the truth, though i always seem to burn my gums a bit because i never seem to wait for the freshly cooked cobs to cool enough to eat without doing so. RRAmom, i’m also a big fan of lemon meringue pie, but not when i’m having JD, so maybe i’ll see if there’s any left later on.
hope everyone’s doing well.
RRA - Yes, that’s about where I lived. Sounds like you take your POA seriously. My sister is POA, and she tends to go AWOL in a crisis, thinking that if ANY family is present, then that’s good enough.
I had a great beer last night on our way back from that place! Blue Moon Belgian White! That really hit the spot and it was SOOOO good! You guys ever hear of it?
tabby, I clearly remember that first year of college, and that first few weeks. Pretty soon you’ll be an expert, and teaching everyone else the ropes next year!
Carmy they’re playing the Denver Broncos. I hope I can keep up with the FF, but I know Terry, Johnny and Akenta have my back, UNLESS THEY CHEAT!!! ROFLMAO!!!
Dry - Nice to see you hear. Yes, I have had Blue Moon and liked it. We have an unbelievable variety of beers out west. In and around my town alone we have at least 6 micro breweries.
Ma’at - Yes, I do take my POA seriously. Ever since Dad passed away, I’ve had to do a lot that he took care of for the two of them. I’ve been thankful they did most of the legal stuff before he passed on, and the rest that I thought was needed done before Mom had her big stroke. It has been a little rough since I’m the baby of the family, that my older siblings don’t always realize I’m legally in charge. But my hubby & I (with our kids), spent one evening a week with my parents for over 15 years, and I called Mom 6 days a week & chatted until her stroke. Rest of the kids might call home once a month, some even less. So Mom & I have been very close, share the same values (unlike most of my sibilings), and have discussed a lot of the end-of-life “what if” questions. My parents were always ready to lend a helping hand, so now it is time to return the favor.
Doc - I think we’re a lot alike when it comes to sports. Like “what season is it now?” As my husband is fond of saying, “Sports are bad for your health.”
RRAmom, my sister and i share POA for my Dad, but i had to deal with real estate agent to sell his house earlier this year. no bad reason, the two of them were back to the old country to visit family so i was the one left to take care of it. worked out fine, and he had a nice visit with siblings and in-laws he hadn’t seen for some time.
if i followed nfl, i would have joined the fantasy football, but i’m a diehard cfl supporter - even though my beloved Argos are playing like bleeep (again) this year.
*sigh
enjoy the game, anyhow!
yyyguy - I’m surprised the attorney would set it up so you & your sister share the POA. Ours will set it up so that one has the POA, and another one takes it over in the event the first one resigns, dies, etc.
Yep, I’ve had to go through three real estate closings already. One more to go eventually.
cleo. who makes “blue moon” beer? i’ve never heard of it, and i’m a beer drinking Canadian. if it’s a micro brew from out west, that would be no wonder, but if it’s a national brand i’d be curious.
RRAmom, it’s the way my parents wanted it. sis was the advocate for Mom when she was nearing the end, it may work out that i wind up doing the same for Dad. my will has both her and my brother listed as POA for my affairs. maybe it’s a Canadian thing, i don’t know.
I enjoy sports. For the most part I relax when watching sports. When I was playing various sports, my health was not in question and probably only second to my level of conditioning when I was in the service. And it makes me laugh and smile which is good for you.
Don’t worry Dry, I don’t cheat, not my stile.
As it stands, I have get to bed.
Work tomorrow, and Tuesday, then I am done for the summer.
Exciting.
Peace and love all!
A quick fly by to answer Dry.
Yes, Sleeman’s is still around. I love their honey brown ale, their cream ale, and their silver creek lager, too. they remain one of the best small brewers in ontario.
yyyguy brought a case of Sleemans home from Niagara on the Lake, honey brown ale, about 9 years ago. Before all hte sh@@ happened. Can’t find it here in PA. Man that was a good brew!
I love Sleeman’s. The very first time that I had it was in a beautiful old lodge between Banff & Jasper, that was on a lake. We entered the old log building with the bright red roof and walked into their vast empty dining room. For lunch we ordered two bison burgers, rare and two Sleeman’s Creme ale. While awaiting our burgers we had our first ale, by the time the beer was finished our burgers still hadn’t come out. The waitress came by and we said “You did tell the chef that we wanted our burgers rare, didn’t you?” She assured us that she had, so we ordered two more Sleeman’s. As we were finishing our second beer, the burgers arrived, so overcooked it was like eating sawdust, but we loved the Sleeman’s and I have been drinking it off and on ever since. Some stores here carry it.
YGuy and Cleo my favorite drive in the North America is the Banff Jasper highway and we have travelled almost every highway! But for places to see, Mount Chief Crazy Horse in ND - even unfinished is a true marvel as is Bryce Canyon near the Grand Canyon. Also loved Washington DC and the Smithsonian and the monuments and the beach between Panama City Beach and Pensacola. And of course the Oregon and Washington coasts. Of course Vancouver Island is a gem. And I do love the Maritimes! Actually I could go on and on - I love travelling. Next will be Europe.
@cleokaya: if my memory serves me correctly, you’re talking about lake louise. i don’t remember any other “log building on a lake” between Banff & Jasper, and i think the only other place with a restaurant of any sort was at Saskatchewan River Crossing - which didn’t have a lake, but did have a $20 fast food lunch which consisted of a bacon cheeseburger, small fries, and a small soft drink. even Banff was cheaper (and there, I ate in the restaurant on top of Sulphur Mountain - a tourist place which figured to be more expensive).
YGuy there is also a restaurant / lodge on Bow Lake near Bow Glacier. Can’t remember much about it other than a old guide set it up (or something like that…)
@DawnAvril was in DC in May of this year. spent my first day walking for miles up and down the Mall, seeing the monuments. i was going to do the Smithsonian on day 2, but my knees were so messed up from all the walking that i just stayed in the motel and rested up. day 3 was taking the Godson back home by way of Ithaca (he’s at Cornell working on his Masters). i, too, think the Icefields Parkway is one of the best drives I have ever made.
Dawn - Actually Crazy Horse is in SD, but it is impressive and when finished will be larger than Rushmore. On Sept. 15th my wife and I are flying to WA DC and will spend just under 3 weeks there and in Virginia. My wife is a history buff and is enthralled with Thomas Jefferson. One of the weeks there we be staying in a condo near Monticello, his home. I to love the Smithsonian. I really like the Royal Provincial Museum in Victoria.
i got a picture of Bow Lake with the mountain and glacier reflected in it. it was taken from the roadside viewing spot (just a small turnoff, really) and i never even knew there was anything else there.
yyyguy -No, it’s not Lake Louise. This lodge is closer to Jasper and is on the west side of the highway when heading north. It is an old lodge on a small lake. It is distinquished by a bright red roof. The lodge is old and may be a fishing lodge. It is one of the few places to stay between Banff & Jasper other than Lake Louise.
I have an interesting story about Lake Louise though. I was traveling back to Hay Lakes, AB for my aunt’s funeral. I was on the road with my dog Kaya, my two cousins, plus the family of one of those cousins, including her husband and two daughters. We checked motels all around the Lake Louise area, then for the heck of it decided to check out the Lake Louise Lodge. As it was off season we were able to get a 2 story corner penthouse suite facing the lake, with plenty of room for all of us. It ended up being cheaper than several rooms in more modest motels. It was pure luxury and my dog got to have a little token attached to her collar, announcing her as a guest of the Lake Louise Lodge.
Yes the Provincial museum here is great and they have the “Treasures of the British Museum” here - until the end of Sept. We’ll have to see it soon! But it is getting very costly.
okay, Cleo. i know there are a few places in and around Jasper townsite, but i didn’t do a lot of looking around once i got there. i wanted to get farther into the mountains, and the BC interior at the time. i have definite intentions to return, however.
@DawnAvril i remember the name, now that i see it. it’s on my Icefields Parkway sight seeing map, but i didn’t visit there. there were a boatload of other things to see that had struck my fancy.
yyyguys- I just clicked on your enlargement of your avatar and saw your profile. Nice photograph. I see that you like photography. So do I. I worked as a travel writer/photographer before I retired.
Cleo, my great uncle worked on the Chateau Lake Louise. He was head carpenter and my Mom always pointed out where he had lived and the areas he worked on. It was quite a work of art.
i took over 400 photos (between my film camera, an SLR, and my digital, snapshot type) on my trip. my brother suggested i get on to facebook or something like that if i wanted to share, but i haven’t really looked into it yet.
As a teen, we went on many overnight hikes in the mountains and camped in bear country without a care in the world. That was long before it became the “in” thing to do.
Dawn - What is included in the treasures of the Bristish Museum exhibit? The first memory of traveling on the highway between Banff & Jasper was in 1959. At that time the Columbia Icefields was still up to the edge of the highway.
yyyguy - Nope, this lodge was closer to Jasper, but far south of the community itself, on it’s own, with nothing else around. Many kilometers south.
DawnAvril had i known how nice num-ti-jah was, i may not have driven back from Lake Louise to Banff to spend the night before i headed on towards Jasper. (it was getting late and Lake Louise was either too expensive or “no vacancy” so i had to find an alternative.) quite the adventure, and i thank you and cleokaya for letting me relive some of it. Unfortunately, it’s high time i finished up my chores, so i’ll have to say good night. no Shika move for me.
Dawn - Good job on Num - ti-jah. I never would have thought of the name until you mentioned it. It’s funny how talk of Sleeman’s Ale leads us into a whole wonderful discussion of the beauty of Canada.
okay. ONE Shika move.
cleokaya, the Columbia Icefields are still visible from the road, but are now roughly a half-mile back from the road side. they put you into a regular bus to go up to a transfer point, which is where you board the ice bus that takes you out on the glacier. one of many incredible experiences. Peytoe Lake was also extremely impressive, though i had to push my physical limits to get to the overlook. the “short 10 minute walk from the parking lot” described in the brochure was almost straight up - not an easy hike for a 350 lb. plus man with arthritic knees - but i made it and it was worth it. what a view! (maybe my next avatar).
and now “good night” for real.
Dawn - I just scanned back to previous comments and saw that I had missed your question about my rib. It has still got me baffled. The day before yesterday it seemed on the mend, yesterday was the worst yet and today is the best. I think the key is to just avoid lifting and extending myself to much. Thanks for asking.
Cleo—I broke my rib(s) several times during sports and in the service. It can take a long time to heal and re-bruising it is way to easy. Maybe you’ve broke some before, if you did sorry for too much info.
Lonewolf - I split my ribcage open in junior high school and that was all tendons or cart. but not bone. My wife has all these outdoor chores and because of her spinal cord injury I do most of the heavy ones. I will have to take some time off. It is tough with her because she doesn’t let anything stop her. It is pretty impressive when a person can be hurt so bad that they need a cane, yet keeps so in shape that her muscles art cut.

Newfoundland & Labrador are very remote and blustery. Little treeless fishing villages give one the feel that they have stepped back in time.

Actually, RRAmom, i AM Canadian (to riff on an old beer commercial). i’ve lived on the northwest edge of Toronto, ON for over 5 decades, now. as i get older, i find more time (and spare cash) for travelling, and will eventually see this country from coast to coast to coast (only have one more to go). when i finally stop putting it off and get my passport, i’ll also visit more of the USA. i’d love to see the grand canyon, and mount rushmore (and stone mountain, GA as well). there’s also a spot on the lewiston side of the bridge to the border crossing that i need to go to in order to finally get the photo i want of the niagara river reaching lake ontario.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
terry. i wouldn’t mind some of the JD, thanks. tabby: much success in your educational endeavours! (i never liked homework, either).
yyyguy about 15 years ago
the only bad part of this is, now that i’ve caught up on the funnies i have to decide between catching up on puzzles as well or taking a break to deal with reality for a while.

yyyguy - Sorry I misunderstood.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Lonewolf - Sounds pretty good. I’ll have some of that virtual corn on the cob, since I can’t have it anymore in RL due to medical problems. I can contribute some homemade rolls - very light & fluffy. The lemon meringue pie sound wonderful - no one except me in my family likes it, so it is a rare treat.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Doc - Must have been a pretty restful sleep without any of the commotion you usually wake up to.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Good evening, Dry!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Lonewolf - A little JD would hit the spot with me also, thank you. And when you’re food is ready I will plate up with ribs, salad, green beans and corn on the cob. At this time of year, tomatoes and corn on the cob are at the top of my list. They are useless the rest of the year, but now they are stellar.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
hi Dry. NO WORRIES! i’m not about to forget Ithaca, though it starts to look like i won’t visit until next year. i’m still procrastinating regarding the passport, but my oldest nephew is getting married next year in Princeton, NJ so i will definitely have it by then (and Ithaca is sort of on the way).

thanks for the drink, terry, and i’m thinking i may have some of the corn on the cob as well. one of my favourite foods, to tell the truth, though i always seem to burn my gums a bit because i never seem to wait for the freshly cooked cobs to cool enough to eat without doing so. RRAmom, i’m also a big fan of lemon meringue pie, but not when i’m having JD, so maybe i’ll see if there’s any left later on. hope everyone’s doing well.

Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Doc - I think we’re a lot alike when it comes to sports. Like “what season is it now?” As my husband is fond of saying, “Sports are bad for your health.”
Dry and Dusty Premium Member about 15 years ago
Terry and Carmy Always liked that division especially now with al the new teams, these teams are some of the originals from back in the day!

RRAmom, my sister and i share POA for my Dad, but i had to deal with real estate agent to sell his house earlier this year. no bad reason, the two of them were back to the old country to visit family so i was the one left to take care of it. worked out fine, and he had a nice visit with siblings and in-laws he hadn’t seen for some time.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
if i followed nfl, i would have joined the fantasy football, but i’m a diehard cfl supporter - even though my beloved Argos are playing like bleeep (again) this year. *sigh enjoy the game, anyhow!
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
yyyguy - I’m surprised the attorney would set it up so you & your sister share the POA. Ours will set it up so that one has the POA, and another one takes it over in the event the first one resigns, dies, etc. Yep, I’ve had to go through three real estate closings already. One more to go eventually.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
cleo. who makes “blue moon” beer? i’ve never heard of it, and i’m a beer drinking Canadian. if it’s a micro brew from out west, that would be no wonder, but if it’s a national brand i’d be curious.
Smiley Rmom about 15 years ago
Don’t work too hard, Doc!
yyyguy about 15 years ago
RRAmom, it’s the way my parents wanted it. sis was the advocate for Mom when she was nearing the end, it may work out that i wind up doing the same for Dad. my will has both her and my brother listed as POA for my affairs. maybe it’s a Canadian thing, i don’t know.
yyyguy about 15 years ago

Some stores here carry it.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Dawn - Good evening young lady. Did you have company on the Island this weekend? We have my wife’s mother here, but she arrived today.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Hi Cleo and Terry! Yes we have company yet again but I have slipped away. May have to go quickly.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
BTW how is your rib Cleo? I hadn’t heard about it.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
@cleokaya: if my memory serves me correctly, you’re talking about lake louise. i don’t remember any other “log building on a lake” between Banff & Jasper, and i think the only other place with a restaurant of any sort was at Saskatchewan River Crossing - which didn’t have a lake, but did have a $20 fast food lunch which consisted of a bacon cheeseburger, small fries, and a small soft drink. even Banff was cheaper (and there, I ate in the restaurant on top of Sulphur Mountain - a tourist place which figured to be more expensive).
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
YGuy there is also a restaurant / lodge on Bow Lake near Bow Glacier. Can’t remember much about it other than a old guide set it up (or something like that…)
yyyguy about 15 years ago
@DawnAvril was in DC in May of this year. spent my first day walking for miles up and down the Mall, seeing the monuments. i was going to do the Smithsonian on day 2, but my knees were so messed up from all the walking that i just stayed in the motel and rested up. day 3 was taking the Godson back home by way of Ithaca (he’s at Cornell working on his Masters). i, too, think the Icefields Parkway is one of the best drives I have ever made.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Dawn - Actually Crazy Horse is in SD, but it is impressive and when finished will be larger than Rushmore. On Sept. 15th my wife and I are flying to WA DC and will spend just under 3 weeks there and in Virginia. My wife is a history buff and is enthralled with Thomas Jefferson. One of the weeks there we be staying in a condo near Monticello, his home. I to love the Smithsonian. I really like the Royal Provincial Museum in Victoria.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
i got a picture of Bow Lake with the mountain and glacier reflected in it. it was taken from the roadside viewing spot (just a small turnoff, really) and i never even knew there was anything else there.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
i’ll pop it up as an avatar to let folks see it. it’s the only way i know to show any of my photos to people here.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
yyyguy -No, it’s not Lake Louise. This lodge is closer to Jasper and is on the west side of the highway when heading north. It is an old lodge on a small lake. It is distinquished by a bright red roof. The lodge is old and may be a fishing lodge. It is one of the few places to stay between Banff & Jasper other than Lake Louise.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
YGuy here is a link to th site. http://www.num-ti-jah.com/
Cleo Oops - that’s right. My ND relatives would be embarrassed if they knew . I was actually disappointed in Rushmore after we saw Crazy Horse.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Yes the Provincial museum here is great and they have the “Treasures of the British Museum” here - until the end of Sept. We’ll have to see it soon! But it is getting very costly.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
okay, Cleo. i know there are a few places in and around Jasper townsite, but i didn’t do a lot of looking around once i got there. i wanted to get farther into the mountains, and the BC interior at the time. i have definite intentions to return, however.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
@DawnAvril i remember the name, now that i see it. it’s on my Icefields Parkway sight seeing map, but i didn’t visit there. there were a boatload of other things to see that had struck my fancy.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
yyyguys- I just clicked on your enlargement of your avatar and saw your profile. Nice photograph. I see that you like photography. So do I. I worked as a travel writer/photographer before I retired.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Cleo, my great uncle worked on the Chateau Lake Louise. He was head carpenter and my Mom always pointed out where he had lived and the areas he worked on. It was quite a work of art.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
i took over 400 photos (between my film camera, an SLR, and my digital, snapshot type) on my trip. my brother suggested i get on to facebook or something like that if i wanted to share, but i haven’t really looked into it yet.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
As a teen, we went on many overnight hikes in the mountains and camped in bear country without a care in the world. That was long before it became the “in” thing to do.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Dawn - What is included in the treasures of the Bristish Museum exhibit? The first memory of traveling on the highway between Banff & Jasper was in 1959. At that time the Columbia Icefields was still up to the edge of the highway.
yyyguy - Nope, this lodge was closer to Jasper, but far south of the community itself, on it’s own, with nothing else around. Many kilometers south.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
DawnAvril had i known how nice num-ti-jah was, i may not have driven back from Lake Louise to Banff to spend the night before i headed on towards Jasper. (it was getting late and Lake Louise was either too expensive or “no vacancy” so i had to find an alternative.) quite the adventure, and i thank you and cleokaya for letting me relive some of it. Unfortunately, it’s high time i finished up my chores, so i’ll have to say good night. no Shika move for me.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Good Night, YGuy but look into Picassa for sharing pics with friends. It is what I use and like it! Enjoyed the memories!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Dawn - Good job on Num - ti-jah. I never would have thought of the name until you mentioned it. It’s funny how talk of Sleeman’s Ale leads us into a whole wonderful discussion of the beauty of Canada.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Cleo it includes over 300 artifacts from the British Museum. Should be wonderful - everyone I have spoken to has enjoyed it.
yyyguy about 15 years ago
(maybe my next avatar). and now “good night” for real.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Dawn - I just scanned back to previous comments and saw that I had missed your question about my rib. It has still got me baffled. The day before yesterday it seemed on the mend, yesterday was the worst yet and today is the best. I think the key is to just avoid lifting and extending myself to much. Thanks for asking.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
YGuy I had forgotten about Peyto Lake. How could I? Yes, it is beautiful! THe shape and the color! Please post it!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
It is funny how memory plays tricks on us. I had thought that Num-Ti-Jah was much closer to Jasper than to Lake Louise.
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Cleo—I broke my rib(s) several times during sports and in the service. It can take a long time to heal and re-bruising it is way to easy. Maybe you’ve broke some before, if you did sorry for too much info.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Peyto Lake is breathtaking.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Well, I must get back to my company- they are just finishing an Inspector Morse. Great chatting with you. Thanks for the memories!
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Lonewolf - I split my ribcage open in junior high school and that was all tendons or cart. but not bone. My wife has all these outdoor chores and because of her spinal cord injury I do most of the heavy ones. I will have to take some time off. It is tough with her because she doesn’t let anything stop her. It is pretty impressive when a person can be hurt so bad that they need a cane, yet keeps so in shape that her muscles art cut.
DawnAvril about 15 years ago
Shika move - I’m glad your rib felt better today!
COWBOY7 about 15 years ago
Good night Dawn.
