JFri I was tired from 32.5 years at the same place, (various jobs).
I finally made my escape and took a year off for golf and sailing. I went back to work doing something I really enjoy. The only problem is, they enjoy me too. Part time turned into 55 hours a week…….. (Sometimes) I’m tired…. going to bed now………
DRY I love what you made for everyone else except me. I guess I’ll go to the breakfast bar. Maybe I can find some stale cornflakes and skim milk. Oh, that’s just a peel. Yeah like I thought you’d leave me a banana.
Not much really. I’ve been sitting here at work on these beautifull days and tomorrow’s looking like a washout with a cold front moving in Sunday. I think I’ll just clean up the house & watch a few movies. I’ve got a plumber coming in Monday. Hopefully, he’ll be done early so I can go to Kemah or something. It’ll start warming up by then. When I get back to work, the temps will be moving back into the 70’s (figures).

Has anyone had a torn ligament and if so can an arm be raised? I through MRI shows no torn ligament but degenerated disk and A word. I have a lot of popping a very sore Rt shoulder. Hurts to raise my arm.
It’s mid morning here and nice and sunny. Yesterday was glorious near 60 degrees.
I’m having a busy morning but it’s a very quiet day here. In the Admin building where I work there are 24 staffers. We started the day with 4 and now we are down to 3.
Terry to answer your question sir, I am going to make bread. It is a nice day so I will spray some noxious invasive plants and then whatever else LilG manages to cook up in her busy mind.
Grog I work pt else where but there are some taking part of spring break as a vacation. Me I’m not allowed off and if I do without pay. I am majorly scanning documents for on-base system. Takes a while to put files together less time to scann. The system will sometimes upload before I can check over and delete what needs deleting. But that’s okay I go on-base to do that.
Dr. Toon I know you base yourself through comics. My question was in general and only a Dr. can answer. I have come upon people in real life who had the procedure done.
Grog, the bread was wonderful. I made two loaves, one with currants and one plain. Both were delicious. Everytime someone new eats the breads I make they like them so much that many have begun to make their own breads as well. It is tough to buy bread as good as what you can make yourself.
cleo, even my Mom didn’t make breads, but she was partial to the French bread in the markets. I have admit that freshly made French bread went well with a bowl of pea soup on a cold winter day.
Now when I eat bread & sandwiches, it’s the high fibre stuff. Yum!
Kab2rb ~ Ouch! Sorry that I can’t help you, but if you go to your library a librarian may be able to help you find some useful books. Also there are web sites such as WebMD that make general information available. I hope you find something that helps you.
Grog we have my homemade baguettes several times a week with our dinner. We also eat healthy breads. I make many of them as well, but not all of our bread is made by me, but more and more of it is.
Hello Cleo ~ I never want to try your bread! I already have to make my own cookies because I don’t like the ones in the store. I am not ready to be spoiled by homemade bread.
All future Happy Creek Dances will take place with feet firmly not moving! But fortunately when you fall in cold water, if you stay down you don’t have to ice your backside.
LuvH8, yes the same thing is true of cookies. My wife’s and mine are so much better than most bought ones, but my wife is the only one eating them these days. She eats way more than me and stays thin. I watch what I eat to stay at the weight I wish to remain.
Fortunately, I no longer need to practice the fine art of the pick up line.
kab2rb, I have messed up my rt shoulder twice. First time was a major separation, no surgery. Second time I shattered it, had surgery. After the dislocation, I experiences everything you described. After the surgery, no more problems.
*Waaaaahhhh! It’s the weekend. That means no more vacation….
Not that I have had what I consider a vacation. Busy Busy Busy. But the space is ready for my son’s stuff, my desk is still a mess and surrounded by boxes I need to sort and toss (hopefully more tossing than stashing).
Good news is I sold a necklace and eyeglass leash, $38. Whoo I’m rich!! Sorta. Kinda.
Got to boogie on. Got my hubbie’s bed yesterday but forgot the mattress pad this morning. Going to go out when traffic’s not so bad and grab it.
Oh, yes. There is a baked potato bar in the BT eating area. All kinds of toppings for the imagination. Even salsa (I’ve discovered peach/pineapple/chiplole salsa).
A slow afternoon of posts. LilG’s son is stopping by for one night and so I made lamb shanks with orange and olives. I am about to put a graham cracker crust in the oven to brown and then the shanks and finally some baguettes. Had a nice ride around the lake in the sunshine and I did laundry. The last two days have been busy.
Grog I know Bloody Mary, what is a Bloody Ceasar? Now I’m thirsty for a Bloody Mary, I love celery, tomato juice and horseradish to start with! I remember many moons ago when I was pregnant and couldn’t drink, I had several Virgin Mary’s. First and ONLY time horseradish gave me indigestion! And man, did it EVER! LOL!
Doc you’re in your element and I’m in mine! 67 degrees in March! * LOVIN” IT!* Going to plant my spring onions, some radishes and lettuce tmr.! Yes sir!
Doc good for you. Man, you are in a different world than me. I rode my bike in shorts and a T shirt and everything is in spring mode here. I am glad you are happy, because I am happy with my weather too.
Grog I never knew that about Hi and Lois. Where did you read that?
Years ago, I got a Beetle Bailey book signed by Mort Walker for my dad, who was a fan, and also in the hospital at the time. That was over twenty years ago.
Doc I love the weather channel! I guess you don’t get it, but you would enjoy some of the shows they have. And that was very nice of you to shovel the neighbors sidewalk!
Dry, it was a number of years ago that I first had horse raddish in my drink. I’ve had both Mary’s and Caesars on the local bar scene, but ended up preferring the Caesar because it was so much smoother. But the bars never did put horseraddish in their drinks.
It wasn until my 30’s when I first had it. I was staying at my buddy’s place who was temporarily staying at his parents’ place between girl friends. His Dad saw us the afternoon after one of our benders and said “Looks like you guys could use a Caesar.
When I took my first sip my, my eyes just bulged. It was the best Caesar I had ever tasted. His Dad told me that it was a secret ingredient but later told me what it was.
Even though I don’t eat Roast Beast as much as I used to, I always ensure I’ve got horseraddish in the house for just the Caesars alone.
Hi all! I have been a wallflower for almost 1 year now!(clap-clap-clap) okay, hold the applause…i envy your friendship yet drool over your breakfast every morning around 7am the “real breakfast hour”..but being from jersey I must ask, where the heck is the pork roll on your menu? it ain’t breakfast without pork roll, egg and cheese on a hard roll!!
Thank you Lonewolf! I’ve been following your on line’s for awhile now and went through all the trials and tribulations with you all…it read like a true novel…thank you for the “ride”
Welcome 80’sharemore!
I have to admit I’ve never heard of a pork roll. But then, I never heard of kolaches until I moved to the Houston area. They are a very popular item down here.
Lonewolf, they make them with a variety of fillings. Someone will often bring boxes into the plant for meeting etc. Those are usually filled with sausage & cheese. Some with have jalapeno, also. But having been in the area you are probably already familiar with it.
I occasionally stop by those places in the morning when I want a quick bite on the run while doing errands.
Grog, just making sure they were pastries you were talking about. Being of Slovak ancestry, I know them very well, In fact, it’s one of the foods I myself excel in cooking. My favorites are poppyseed and apricot filled ones. We spell it kolacky. I just wanted to make sure before I rambled.
Has anyone ever had Gunite? I had Gunite today. My ears are still ringing. I have to get up in the morning and water my Gunite. I have to water my Gunite several times a day for over a week. My life will be consumed with Gunite for the forseeable future.
Lonewolf, I’m sure it’s a different variation adapted to the local tastes. I haven’t seen anything with that kind of filling.
At least they can be eaten on the run without having a mess in your lap.
80’shairnomore, I take it you won’t be hanging around for breakfast at 1:10 ET? Either way, good to see you. This is also a good place to check out any other comics you like and comment on them.
Hello again all. Horseradish is the one heat that disipates upon contact, unlike a pepper. I am a horseradish snob. Originally on the west coast Maries made the only hot horseradish, then suddenly it was not longer available in the cooler section, even though their salad dressings are. The replacement, which can be hard to find is Marina and is only found in the cooler section. Beaver and all the other brands including Bubba’s, which is also in the cooler section, all lack heat.
“Gunite” is a component of swimming pools. It is strange and unexplainable. Not liquid, not solid, and apparently requires four hopefully documented workers about a half-day to apply. The various bits of machinery required to apply the material are designed to emit noise approximately equivalent to an aircraft test facility. It is brown.
So then, it is a “Western!”, Dry. You made it sound like I asked if it’s a western, which confused the heck out of me. I thought you were combining my post to Hy with the one intended for you.
Dry, Marina is nice and hot. You must have Beaver brand, which is a shelf brand as opposed to a cooler. If you don’t have it, take any shelf brand and multiply the heat by 3.
It is funny how tastes develop. I love horseradish and use it liberally. In the last 10 years I have gone from using horseradish, tabasco and lemon on raw oysters and wasabi on sashimi to using nothing. I have gotten to the point that I do not want to mask the flavor of the fish or oysters with anything.
Oh Cleo I still love the horseradish, tabasco, wasabi, etc. I think it enhances the flavors, but I guess each ones tastes are different. I would miss those flavors if I could never have them anymore! :-(
I must agree. The subtle flavor of an oyster, or a bit of sashimi, shouldn’t be altered. I’m still guilty of dipping the fishy bits in soy sauce, just for the salty flavor, but I’m working on it.
Yes it is all what one wants to experience, no right or wrong way. I am into the fresh clean flavor of raw fresh fish. By the way, I didn’t realize it, but Marina horseradish is out of Seattle, so you couldn’t be expected to find it back east, to bad. It is potent.
shairnomore makes you wonder at the number of readers of Big Top that read all the comments but do not comment themselves. After all, look at the subscriber numbers.
Ingelhoffer makes a horseradish, which I have not tried, but as I have said, I have never found a non-refrigerated horseradish that had any heat. And, most refrigerated ones do not either.
Grog, I was checking out those pastries on Wikipedia just out of curiosity. They are basically the same, but there are many more variations than I was even aware of. Pretty interesting!
Has anyone tried making their own horseradish? Apparantly I used to eat straight horseradish when I was around 4 years old. I can’t imagine it now. I guess they had to hide it from me.
It certainly is Lonewolf. I’ve never heard of any such thing in Canada. I’m surprised that I didn’t encounter one of those places while in Dallas.
To my knowledge, no one even brought any to work, but then there was the company-funded cafeteria that served breakfast and a diner next door. Neither had kolaches on the menu at any time that I can recall
Hello & Goodbye LuvH8 Hope you can stay a while next time.
I never tried to make my own horseraddish, but I’m sure it could be better than the store-bought varieties down here. There’s not much to choose from and most of what’s available comes in the creamed form. Bluck!
Cleo There was a couple vacationing in Aruba and snorkling and taking photos. It seems they MAY have found Natalie Holloways remains. Not sure yet, but legit enough to warrrant further investigation.
LW18 yes I did. Very nice movie. This one was the original made in ‘39. It was remade again in ‘69 with Peter O’Toole. My movie guide does not rate it as high as the original. I never liked Peter O’Toole anyway.
Just caught the tale end of a wild movie called “The Fourth Kind!” Wish I had seen the beginning, kind of. It’s pretty freaky and supposedly based on a TRUE story!

Taking care of his baby sister one day while his parents went shopping, young John decided to go fishing and he had to take her along.
When his parents returned later in the day, John told them, “I’ll never take her fishing with me again! I didn’t catch a thing!”
His mother patted him on the shoulder and said,” Oh, I’m sure she’ll be nice and quiet next time and not scare away all the fish.”
John replied, “It wasn’t that. She ate all the bait!”

Hey JFri & Dry
Even though I don’t eat Roast Beast as much as I used to, I always ensure I’ve got horseraddish in the house for just the Caesars alone.

commic what’s he look like? Geez he’s hard to describe! I’d know him if I saw him, though!
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Lonewolf, they make them with a variety of fillings. Someone will often bring boxes into the plant for meeting etc. Those are usually filled with sausage & cheese. Some with have jalapeno, also. But having been in the area you are probably already familiar with it.
I occasionally stop by those places in the morning when I want a quick bite on the run while doing errands.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Grog, just making sure they were pastries you were talking about. Being of Slovak ancestry, I know them very well, In fact, it’s one of the foods I myself excel in cooking. My favorites are poppyseed and apricot filled ones. We spell it kolacky. I just wanted to make sure before I rambled.

Lonewolf, I’m sure it’s a different variation adapted to the local tastes. I haven’t seen anything with that kind of filling.
At least they can be eaten on the run without having a mess in your lap.

cleokaya over 14 years ago
Hello again all. Horseradish is the one heat that disipates upon contact, unlike a pepper. I am a horseradish snob. Originally on the west coast Maries made the only hot horseradish, then suddenly it was not longer available in the cooler section, even though their salad dressings are. The replacement, which can be hard to find is Marina and is only found in the cooler section. Beaver and all the other brands including Bubba’s, which is also in the cooler section, all lack heat.
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Grog, there are many variations of the fillings and yes it is according to regions. But they are basically the same thing.
I’m with you Hymenoxis. What is Gunite?
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Hello Cleo.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Hello Terry. Gunite is a mix of cement and sand which is very durable and used a lot with pools.
hymenoxis is going to be very popular with the Tribe once his pool is in.
hymenoxis over 14 years ago
“Gunite” is a component of swimming pools. It is strange and unexplainable. Not liquid, not solid, and apparently requires four hopefully documented workers about a half-day to apply. The various bits of machinery required to apply the material are designed to emit noise approximately equivalent to an aircraft test facility. It is brown.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Cleo we don’t have those brands of horseradish around here. How hot are they? The hotter the better for me. Of course, you know that! LOL!

Yeah! And despite work, I will enjoy it.

cleokaya over 14 years ago
It is funny how tastes develop. I love horseradish and use it liberally. In the last 10 years I have gone from using horseradish, tabasco and lemon on raw oysters and wasabi on sashimi to using nothing. I have gotten to the point that I do not want to mask the flavor of the fish or oysters with anything.

Vague memories Dry, but no, I do not remember the horseradish.
Dry and Dusty Premium Member over 14 years ago
Oh Cleo I still love the horseradish, tabasco, wasabi, etc. I think it enhances the flavors, but I guess each ones tastes are different. I would miss those flavors if I could never have them anymore! :-(
hymenoxis over 14 years ago
Cleo-
I must agree. The subtle flavor of an oyster, or a bit of sashimi, shouldn’t be altered. I’m still guilty of dipping the fishy bits in soy sauce, just for the salty flavor, but I’m working on it.
cindylat over 14 years ago

Don’t you ever relax, Hymenoxis? You’re making me feel guilty for just watching a movie at this late hour.
cleokaya over 14 years ago
Yes it is all what one wants to experience, no right or wrong way. I am into the fresh clean flavor of raw fresh fish. By the way, I didn’t realize it, but Marina horseradish is out of Seattle, so you couldn’t be expected to find it back east, to bad. It is potent.
