Well….. I am not really good at studying, especially when I am tired. I think I will try again.

Kab Try medical transcription and/or medical billing. We finally became poor enough to have my hubby qualify for free tuition and books. Medical Transcription is the harder of the two, you have to be fast and accurate. Hubby could be fast, or accurate, and he was slowly getting to the point where he might be both….but he didn’t get his certificate. Sometimes the third time isn’t the charm.

Good morning to the rest of the tribe. It’s another hot day here and I’m feeling out of sorts. Dunno what’s wrong, just that I don’t feel quite right. It may be I didn’t get enough sleep, so I’m working on getting sleepy so I can nap.

I looked at the sylbus they recommended Medical transcription to. Have to get with counselor. Where can someone with are type of income, hubby retired and me pt get type of money help?

Kab - If you can’t score high enough in math on the community college entrance exam, they’ll let you take remedial courses needed to bring your score up.

Hello both Sojourner & Grog your wrong, it’s very hot here. I’m trying to stay awake for some reason I almost do what others do, fall asleep briefly afternoon then can’t sleep nights.

Sojo - Plenty hot! I walked to the mailbox around noon, otherwise I’ve stayed in the a/c. Doing laundry & other tasks inside where I’m fairly comfortable.

Funny, when I got to college and found I had to pay my own money instead of earning money, studying became a very important part of living. Odd how that works,

Kab - I don’t know much about financial aid for college. I don’t want us or our kids saddled with school loans, and we don’t quite fall into the poverty level to qualify for any need-based scholarships. There is no college fund for me, so I’m going to start doing some temp work soon to bring in some income to pay off debts & pay for any classes I take. Hubby thinks he can get me hired at his job for temp work, so will probably work there first.

Kab - I don’t know how that all works, especially the paying for it part. But I thought it might be helpful, since you can use “life experience” to help earn your degree. My hubby finally got his bachelor’s doing a “degree completion program” at Friends. Lots of essay writing about what he had learned in his life through experience, so I’m guessing that is somewhat how this one works.

I’m again sorry not trying to take this BT over, and if someone wants to talk about something totally different feel free.

Lew - My parents had the same philosophy about college, so made all 5 of us kids find a way to pay for it without their help. Now that I know more of their finances, they didn’t have the money to pay for my college, even though we didn’t qualify for need-based scholarships. Most of their money was tied up in real estate.

I generally refuse to read the long-winded comments on other strips, but then again it may depend on the poster. I never did read most of JAD’s posts long-winded or not and then there’s puddleglum2 over at Calvin & Hobbes, but if Fritzoid or Johanan have a long comment, I’ll read it. It will largely depend on the usual content of the poster.

By and large I have read all the posts here unless I have been pressed for time.

Dad didn’t ever go to college either. He took a lot of the continuing education classes at his job. My mom worked, so she could go to college. Ended up going only one semester because she got married. She tried to go back to college when I started school. (I’m the youngest.) She took some really hard classes and just couldn’t juggle housework & college. Of course, Dad was the type that he never helped with anything that was traditionally “women’s work”, although I think he did have to help change diapers. When I entered 7th grade, she went back to work full-time at factories.

Grog - I’m the same way, but I read fast. It isn’t so much that I care if more than Kab reads what I post, but if one is gone for hours, it is a lot for someone else to read.

At least your parents put the effort in and your mom on higher education. I’ve tried to get my 27 year son to my daughter wants to but lack of funds prevents it. I plan to use my small paycheck as hubby’s retirement checks won’t cover but household expenses including mortage. I just want better. Grog your being a good sport on this, just me being cranky. There where some of JAD I would sometimes skip, but then he had a interesting life he was more talked about to him. I don’t feel as he I don’t know everything. I think though he is still trying to come in. In another stirp there was someone else that got little uppty and comment’s let him have it.

I imiagine yahoo will do the same. Just on the title bar where one puts www,etc doesn’t stay. Let me know if I can delete more. I’ve already did some. I know it gets boring reading this and I don’t feel insulted when some one doesn’t. I do the same skip. I’ve read yours Rmom some what close to me in knowing what one goes through. Once again sorry. Kab - It is hard to say with the economy what our retirement income will be or cover by the time we are old enough. I’m figuring if my income can pay off our debts, we can live on less after retirement. Just don’t know how much we’ll get out of this house, so don’t know how much we’ll need to borrow on the next house.

Kab, what you say about JAD is true - to a point anyway. I just found I didn’t like how he nit-picked at the other posters or even the cartoonists for that matter. Rather than allowing myself to get upset over his posts and channelling some negativity of my own toward him, I just chose to stop reading his posts altogether.

Grog I notice to about JAD about his opions only one that matter. I tried to talk about an issue on strip and he got definsive. I don’t know if he reads this or not. I know this is public strip. On a lighter note my daughter is having one terrible time finding a male, don’t know why male I guess two female Golden retrivers don’t get alone seen it, and not having any luck. I’ll be nice here and not go into detail.

Fellow Baby one more quick word before I head out my door here, in defense of a new found friend. Joe is actually a very nice man. I know he got carried away at times, but usually I think it was because he felt backed into a corner by some of the other posters. Even now that he’s gone, people still make mean nasty comments directed at him. Why? Are some of these posters that full of hate? They need to let it go. He’s gone. And you were wise, didn’t like his comments, you skipped them, that’s what anyone should do. It’s a shame some can’t be as mature as you. Oh dear, did I just call you mature? LOL! I NEVER said that! :-) Woof! Woof!

Thanks, Fellow Baby! (I think). I, too, wish others would have followed suit rather than bash him. It got to the point where he was taking a compliment as an insult. I like the “Joe Bashing” about as much as the political & religous commentary, which I will also tend to skip. If a strip such as Shoe, Ziggy or Non Sequitur attract political comments (even without the politial strip) I will avoid looking at the strip.

Anyway, I’ve said more than I care to on the subject(s).

After getting lost in the western side of the armpit of the universe (lack of visible streetsigns, doesn’t help when you see them AFTER you’re in the intersection in the non-turn lane,,,then get turned around in your turn around and end up going over a bridge and a couple of miles with no turning allowed so back to the freakin’ interstate…etc)

Kab check with your counselor. Medical Transcription and Medical billing are certification tracks and don’t require that ‘core’ colleges require. They’re designed for us older folks trying to better ourselves.

Also, I don’t mind long posts. I tend to post large because I’m hither and thither. I have had my share of venting and rants, Anyone in the Tribe recall my rant concerning getting into the Rh- antibody program at Octoplasma? I was on vacation so I had plenty of time to pop back and forth, and it was rather educational as well. Like the others, if it gets boring or offensive I just move on to the next one.

Believe it school here in KS starts soon in August and Jr. college next week. I was thinking of having my daughter look and see if she can explain the math formula this Jr. college used.

I actually started emailing with him and he even asked me to do him a favor and let someone who posts on Gocomics and here at BT occasionally to stop referring to him. We won’t mention any names. He was fine with me through emails until this person gave their opinion of me and then he treated me rudely. He is doing the same thing with me that he complained about with others the way they treated him. To me that is the definition of a hypocrite.

Hi, tribe! Kab - I think hopeandjoy2 said she’s in the KC area - the MO side. Luv - Thanks! Just changed it to fit comments at Birdbrains, because I haven’t taken the time to figure out how to insert pictures in the comments. I use a standard keyboard & a separate mouse with my keyboard because I have the same problem. Once in a while if I go on a trip, I might not take a separate keyboard, but I’ve got a spare in my hubby’s trailer, so it is pretty rare I have to use the laptop’s keyboard.

I have to remember to put something over the mouse pad on the computer. Maybe I will make it a special little cover.

Hi, Sojo!

I’ll be here for a few min. but will be leaving soon. I am doing the retouch work on my other computer in the other room. Done retouching for the night. Am having to learn the program as I use it. It’s different but like other programs I’ve used so for me it’s easy to figure out. It’s free and is developed like Open Ofice. It’s like Photoshop. You can get it at www.gimp.org

Sojo - I’ve been using ACDSee for my photos. It has an editor, too. I haven’t used the editor too much, but am starting to learn my way around it. I used to use Adobe PhotoDeluxe (came with our first digital camera) but it doesn’t work well with Vista, which is what I’ve got. I haven’t asked my geek son what he uses, because I don’t want a 30 minute discussion on the subject. At least what I’ve got does what I need, so I’m satisfied.

Looking at the clock, guess I’d better head towards bed. Good night!

If it works and does what you need that’s great! I first did a quick fix on the photos with the free Google program. It was very limited but did a fast and good enough job. I hadn’t used it before but only took a few min. to do. After looking at the photos I uploaded I found out the changes only showed when viewed through the Google program! I used to do photo work on multi-million dollar computer equipment (now done on desktop computers) and simple programs sometimes bug me, not being able to do what I want to. Usually though it’s overkill to try to do some things that are not needed. Getting used to working with RGB instead of CMYK is probably the hardest thing for me.
