good (early) morning Tribe and thanks for all the good wishes, cake, and ice cream yesterday. unfortunately, celebrating got in the way a bit and i didn’t get back as early as i wanted to; but i went back and reread the comments i’d missed. i appreciated them all.
Rmom was wondering about my time zone. it’s Eastern Time, same as New York or Detroit.
hopeandjoy2 was wondering about pronunciation of my name. i pronounce it “wiseguy” and there are 3 y’s to indicate the plural because there were 3 magi (as well as 3 stooges) and the name is sort of a tribute to both trios. as LuvH8 and others can tell you, i don’t mind any contractions of the name as long as i can tell it’s me being referred to. end of pedantry for this post.
LuvH8 as a rocker and metal maniac of long standing, shouting will not hurt my head. shout to your heart’s content.
LW18 after all the cake, ice cream, and other assorted goodies provided yesterday, i had better stick to a serving from the salad bar and some water. thank you for the lovely spread you’ve provided.
Montana Lady i only remember the Nairobi Trio from stories shown long after they originally appeared. i don’t remember which show had them on any more.

I wish I could sleep earlier. I’ve been reading a book. I figure each page that is turned further I get.

I’m either too late in morning or two late eveing. No win. Everyone is getting ready for work.
I just got that penguin again and I did as someone suggested, refreshed back again. Another hot day expecting 100+ again.
Grog I thought you’d be at work. I can’t do Gocomics where I work at bosses would know and internet is censored.
LUVH8–You said good morning to early people which means at 1:30 a.m.???? when I checked. What an hour…When I worked 12 hour night shifts in OB that’s when I took a quick supper if possible. I just zzzzzz right through it now.
Good Morning Doc Toon–My 12’s were 7p to 7a and I also worked 11p to 7a….It depended on what was going on as to when I ate. Guess it could have been early breakfast!
Yes, 1:30am counts as early. One night/morning I thought it would be nice if those who get here at obscene hours had a greeting just for them. I don’t always do it though.
Hello again. I’m not quite up at that time I’m hopefully my mind is allowing for sleep. When do 3rd shifters go to sleep? Cuts back on evening doesn’t it?
Hi Grog, Hi Kab Buch POPPING In after checking out Peanuts and Cats with Hands–they have similar themes today
Sleeping patterns for the “Dark” ones vary with the person, I think… and the kind of night…at least for me. I worked two12’s followed by 11-7 then 3 days off. Then a couple more 12’s.
I always was up to eat with my husband in the evenings…I got a speeding ticket once rushing home to see him in the a.m. before he left for work. YIKES
That’s what surprises me Doc Toon after being up working hard all night your not in bed asleep.
Rmom you really missed out on rain yesterday late afternoon. Even when I got home I couldn’t go on my walk.
SW of Wichita I drove through blinding, pouring, blowing rain and hail. Hard traveling. Time I got fairly close to Mid Continent AP it quieted down. Daughter of Admin Assist I work at pt called said they where really getting it. I just hoped no Tornado would happen I didn’t want to get stuck where I work at. It’s happened twice so far. The Admin told higher up if my hours where up it’s up to me what I do.
They could care less if I get hurt.
Kab - From what I saw on the radar screen, your area was getting drenched. I don’t think we got any here, or maybe just a tiny sprinkle.
I noticed this morning that you don’t have Sojo on your list of names, so you might want to add him.
Darktor Toon:
I know what you mean. If I get home from work at midnight I’m no more likely to go straight to bed than the folks who get home at 5:00pm.
YYYguy:
Of course! Wiseguy! I feel so stupid. Maybe I should take a closer look at some of the other names. For instance, what could Montana Lady really mean? Hmm…
Doc Toon and Frankr when my hubby worked 2nd shift he would come home and ready for bed.
There was a time for summer he had to get ready be at work at 3am until 8 hours where done. He would come in sleep then back down and sleep until time to get up he wasn’t up for long.
Rmom the reason for list I keep on word document sames a lot of time and I thought I had everyone thanks.
I may not be on after 5:30 time to eat relax. I will be leaving shortly anyway so I bed everyone by. Enjoy your day.
hi Kab, Sojo, Rmom, Frankr, Grog, & (if he’s still here) DocT.
on the subject of work/sleep times, i am in a similar boat. my regular shift ends at 11:15 pm so i get home between 11:30 & midnight and almost never go directly to sleep (which is why i get here around turnover time - when i get here). i find i need the “down time” to relax a bit before sleep is possible. my days tend to run from 10am until 3am.
Hi yyyguy! - That’s what suprised my brother when he had to work 2nd shift about once a week, needing down time before going to bed. For over 20 years I had to work 2nd or 3rd shift, then 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. including weekends. Never did like thoes hours, It usually isn’t good for your health.
no, Sojourner it isn’t. even though my shift approximates a normal day with wake and sleep periods, i have still gained about 60 unhealthy pounds in the dozen years i’ve been working on it. not the only reason, but it is a contributing factor. it was even worse during the short period i was on midnights.
The shift workers here start their shifts at 4:30 for twelve hours. Some actually prefer the night shifts. The nature of their work for the most part doesn’t allow them to get too overweight.
it is what you get used to, Frankr. i find the Day shift at my employer seems way too early (7 am start), but i was always a bit of a night owl. anyhow, if i’m going to head out of town tomorrow i need to do some chores today. so i’ll have to say so long. before i go, a deposit in the karma account for those in need.
(((Tribe)))
Hi bmonk! Today I was able to get on with only a couple of penguins!:-)
Yesterday it took 6 hours to get on, had to switch pages to refresh comments and never could see any of the toons even into the night. (Tried deleting temp. files, fixing regestry, rebooting, using other computer, etc.)
Weather report: still no rain–each day the chances get delayed about 24 hours, for some reason. Now it’s due tonight thru Friday night, esp. Thurs night. Go figure.
At least it’s cooling off a little better at night. And the weekend thru next week is going to be about 10°F cooler.
MontanaLady, I’m in West Dakota, on I-94. In fact, I’m mentioned, albeit not by name, in Kathleen Norris’s first best-seller Dakota: A Spiritual Geography. (I may never write a best-seller, but at least I have appeared in one!)
Rumor has it that, in just a few years, if they can find a good scriptwriter, Hollywood may film “Dakota: A Scriptural Geology”… .
Hi, Grog (first time. Well, today anyway. If you count the number of times I’ve said hi to Grog, it’s probably dozens. If not more. Or maybe less. I should really close this hasty parenthesis, before it becomes a long parenthesis, or perhaps never closes.)
I think any one who’s lived in that type of environment has munched on a snowflake or two in their time, bmonk, although Lucy Van Pelt would say that she only eats January snow flakes.
Sending an Ellipsis… to anyone interested. Hi Monk,
Hi Grog and Hi Ladywolf! Make a { } or two for fun. I can’t remember what their name (s) are.
Please may I have a strawberry cheesecake (if there is one)…..put a chocolate dipped one on top.
Back to being sensible for a minute, those Rocky Ford Cantaloupe are almost like candy. They are so sweet and delicious. Ours come from Colorado and I thank the West for growing them so well!!
One thing I’ve had several times was a favorite of a friend. A scrambled egg sandwich made with toast, scrambled eggs covered with garlic powder and chocolate chips. I don’t think this should be put on the menu though!
I like trying anything to eat or drink (half black olive juice and half eggnog is good). After being hospitalized twice for food poisoning I learned to just stay home. Now I’m a lot more careful what I eat.
What we did have:
Roast Biff
(Smashed taters and gravy)
Beet greens
–except they are half red with beets. Does that make them beet red-greens?
Pumpkin crisp
Orangeade
Water.
Peanutbutter and Jelly, now there’s a crime. Peanutbutter sandwich good. Jelly sandwich good. Peanutbutter and Jelly sandwich tastes like &*#^%# (self bleeping)
BMonk that does sound like a good supper. I had gravy meat with assorted veggies all mixed together. Yeah, I made the gravy meat Saturday, but it’s the kind of stuff that ages well.
I’m just sitting here finishing my comic rounds and working jigsaw puzzles. Thought I’d stop and chat if anyone else is here.
LuvH8 - I’ve only stayed up that late once and that was to see when turnover was and it was before I joined. I can cook good and would make a good menu. I wouldn’t use some recipies I have for buffalo hump. bear paws, mooses nose and beaver tail soup (really have those recipies and others). I certainly wouldn’t offer some of the things I’ve tried without recipies. I don’t think you need to worry anyway as I doubt I’ll be up that late, unless I get a laptop to run from bed. LOL
BMonk Gravy meat. You take hamburger, dry stuffing and onions, mash it all together until it’s fairly even, then fry up as small patties or meatballs. From that pan they go into a pot of gravy where the stuffing soaks up the gravy. I cook it up in a crock pot so it can simmer a long time. It freezes well, too.
Frankr and & LuvH8 I have a program called Puzzle Master 4. I can take any jpg image and convert it to a jigsaw puzzle. It only goes up to 400 or so pieces but the oddness can get.,,,really odd. I enjoy it.
Puzzles from Hubble’s greatest hits can be the most difficult because of all the black areas.
LUVH8 I am an adult a lot of the time and I love peanut butter and Jelly–grape or strawberry. My husband who is more adult than I am, eats them every day.
Here is the recipe for a breakfest item I invented and made as a kid. Make a full pancake batter mix (I used Bisquick). Use 1/3 to make a skillet size pancake. Add coco (to taste like chocolate cake) to the rest of the mix to make 2 skillet sized chocolate pancakes. Place one chocolate pancake on a plate and cover with grape jelly. Place regular pancake on it and cover it with peanut butter. Place remaining chocolate pancake on that and cover with marshmellow fluff then chocolate chips.Bon Appétit!May serve it as one item (like I ate) or cut up into pieces like a pie.
Hi EMET! - I ate at a Waffle House in OK and it was all you could eat for a low price. On a trip I saw one and went in to eat - that one didn’t have all you can eat offered! It’s a good thing there isn’t one here or I’d really gain weight.
Good evening everyone soon I will be taking a shower and let my hair dry. It very short. Then read.
We have on occasions had PB & J different types of J.
When my dad was out of work we had cheep meals and one type was waffles a lot of waffles. Another hamburger gravy not like what was mentioned. Cook hamburger as usual drain all grease, sprinkle flour and add milk cook until thicken. My mom never put seasons in. Oh and I forgot biscuits goes with this on the side.

Hi, Sojo, Frankr & yyyguy!
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Hi yyyguy! - That’s what suprised my brother when he had to work 2nd shift about once a week, needing down time before going to bed. For over 20 years I had to work 2nd or 3rd shift, then 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. including weekends. Never did like thoes hours, It usually isn’t good for your health.
yyyguy over 14 years ago
no, Sojourner it isn’t. even though my shift approximates a normal day with wake and sleep periods, i have still gained about 60 unhealthy pounds in the dozen years i’ve been working on it. not the only reason, but it is a contributing factor. it was even worse during the short period i was on midnights.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
The shift workers here start their shifts at 4:30 for twelve hours. Some actually prefer the night shifts. The nature of their work for the most part doesn’t allow them to get too overweight.
In fact, most of them are in great shape.
Frankr over 14 years ago
I’ve worked 2nd shift almost my whole life (and that’s a long time) and am accustomed to it.
I am now (hopefully temporarily) unemployed and find myself keeping the same hours.
The nature of my “wrok”
yyyguy over 14 years ago
it is what you get used to, Frankr. i find the Day shift at my employer seems way too early (7 am start), but i was always a bit of a night owl. anyhow, if i’m going to head out of town tomorrow i need to do some chores today. so i’ll have to say so long. before i go, a deposit in the karma account for those in need. I too caught a penguin and had to refresh.
I’m feeling the need for a peanut butter cup or three. Alas, none are available, so I must practice abstinence…

Hi, Sojo and Ladywolf.Oh, I’ll share a Dr. Pepper with someone.

Hi bmonk! Today I was able to get on with only a couple of penguins! :-)
Yesterday it took 6 hours to get on, had to switch pages to refresh comments and never could see any of the toons even into the night. (Tried deleting temp. files, fixing regestry, rebooting, using other computer, etc.)
bmonk over 14 years ago

Hi Quaby
Quabaculta over 14 years ago
Great avatar’s tonight. I’ve been snagging some for future puzzles.
In case anyone’s curious, I average about 325-325 pieces per puzzle, they’re oddness is 60% and I take about 2.5 hours to do them.
George Arnold over 14 years ago
LuvH8 - I’ve only stayed up that late once and that was to see when turnover was and it was before I joined. I can cook good and would make a good menu. I wouldn’t use some recipies I have for buffalo hump. bear paws, mooses nose and beaver tail soup (really have those recipies and others). I certainly wouldn’t offer some of the things I’ve tried without recipies. I don’t think you need to worry anyway as I doubt I’ll be up that late, unless I get a laptop to run from bed. LOL

Quaby: I thought the whole world loved peanut butter and jelly.

Peanut butter and lettuce is common. Had a resturant here that even had it on their menu.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Quaby, are you making puzzles or putting them together?
Hi Frankr
I am glad I am not the only one. Sometimes I think a lot of adults don’t eat peanut butter and jelly (actually jam) because it is kid’s food.
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Some things shouldn’t be outgrown!
bmonk over 14 years ago
And then there’s Fluffernutter sandwitches…SWEET!
COWBOY7 over 14 years ago
Exactly, Sojo!
George Arnold over 14 years ago
LuvH8 - Did you see my recipie for chocolate pancake pie?
Quabaculta over 14 years ago
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Yes, I think so. If I remember right it was very decadent.
I used to make peanut butter and soft chocolate on graham crackers for Monkey 2 when she was going through a finicky stage.
hopeandjoy2 over 14 years ago
LUVH8 I am an adult a lot of the time and I love peanut butter and Jelly–grape or strawberry. My husband who is more adult than I am, eats them every day.
I grew up on PNB and Banana as well.
SOJO, I must have overlooked you recipe
George Arnold over 14 years ago
I made those panakes as a kid and it was really good.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
I remember when they were selling solid black puzzles for a short time. It was to make it more challenging.
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Here is the recipe for a breakfest item I invented and made as a kid. Make a full pancake batter mix (I used Bisquick). Use 1/3 to make a skillet size pancake. Add coco (to taste like chocolate cake) to the rest of the mix to make 2 skillet sized chocolate pancakes. Place one chocolate pancake on a plate and cover with grape jelly. Place regular pancake on it and cover it with peanut butter. Place remaining chocolate pancake on that and cover with marshmellow fluff then chocolate chips.Bon Appétit! May serve it as one item (like I ate) or cut up into pieces like a pie.
George Arnold over 14 years ago
Hi EMET! - I ate at a Waffle House in OK and it was all you could eat for a low price. On a trip I saw one and went in to eat - that one didn’t have all you can eat offered! It’s a good thing there isn’t one here or I’d really gain weight.
