Sojo, this is our first year with the lemon tree. It’s about 5 feet tall, and a dwarf tree in a huge pot. We bought it in April when we went back down to SoCal….It’s got about 8 lemons the size of quarters, and a new set of blossoms just opened, and look like they’ve been pollinated. So, we’ll bring it in for the winter, keep it in a sunny window, and we’ll let you know in the spring. (keeping fingers crossed)

As I’m using a laptop in different rooms I hooked my external drive over the wireless so I wouldn’t have to move the drive but it was taking to long to copy. Hi, boo-monk! Sojo - Your neighborhood must be one of the pretty ones in the fall. I know there are some tree-lined residential streets in Derby that are absolutely gorgeous a few days of the year when the leaves are in color. We planted maples out here, because we both enjoy the fall colors, but they don’t stay changed long, because once they change, as soon as we get a windy day, the branches are stripped of their leaves. What do you do with the leaves you rake up?

@Rmom, when we lived near Chicago (lots of leaves) we used to throw them on our garden. Sometimes it was a foot or two thick. Then, the next spring, we’d work them under for mulch.

When we got there, our back yard was clay and cinders. My parents had to spade up a lump, and then hit it with the spade to break it up. After 20 or so years of grass clippings, leaves, kitchen scrap and other composting, the earth was quite rich.

Boo-Monk I agree Dusty’s looks are a bit bizzare…reminds me of an alien on Star Trek with one of those outsized, bald domes or something.

SojoWe have fun tearing around on the lawnmower “mulching” leaves…we make rows and then whittle them down and we used to blow a bunch on the garden before the deer, rabbits and raccoons convinced us to support the farmer’s market instead. We do grow some tomatoes among the flowers, though.

I have discovered that living east of people with more trees gives us a LOT MORE leaves… they b-l-o-w to us and get caught in our flowerbeds or in corners etc.

Hey Big Brother and other hockey fans, Remember my hockey prediction that I made last month for October 7th which was last night. Well what do you think. I was almost accurate. Yes the Blackhawks did lose as I said they would. But I was wrong about the score.

I said that the Av’s would win 3-2

Last night they won 4-3 in overtime. My prediction was so close.

Hello all, real busy afternoon at work. I am now assisting a different department with a set up packet, I’ll leave this as a mystery, For Columbus day dept is sorta closed buy yet open dept bosses uses Columbus Day for day after Thanksgiving with Friday off. For pie I would rather have cherry or peach. My mom’s has a tree decades ago used to produce crab apple then went to an apple tree. So we have apples gallore.

Do some of you remember me tell about Hawker Beechcraft think about accepting Louisiana’s sweet package move? There is more coming not from me, KS representative is trying to contact Louisiana senator or Governor about illegal use of Federal money. For Hawker Beechcraft is using workers blackmail and throwing a fit, if union doesn’t go our way we will move. Not sure if CEO of Hawker know how much that will costs.

Just a slow evening to wrap up my last vacation day. I’ve been working on what may be my last jewelry set. I don’t know if I’ll have time to make another before next Saturday.

    Hi, Quaby

It’s not just the sweets that’ll put on the pounds. I didn’t have to eat sweets to gain weight. Rich foods will do it and it doesn’t have to be deserts. And I haven’t been a desert person since I was a teen-ager. If you really want to lose weight, just lay off the fatty foods and get some exercise. That shed my pounds quicker than most diet plans could do it.

I bought 3 of those big bags of mini-chocolate bars today plus a couple of smaller ones. They’ll likely be gone by 7:30 PM, Halloween night. If there’s any left, I’ll make sure it’s the Reeses Peanut Butter cups and maybe a Kit-Kat or two. But that’s all I will be buying or have bought this year.

You wouldn’t get any at my house, Little Sister. My supply will be gone in no time. They usually come in what seems like bus-loads. Buss load….a trickle for the next 15 29 minutes until the next busload. I often wonder if I’m going to make it past 7. And I buy a lot!

The first year I moved to League City, I bought a lot of candy because I was living in a family neighborhood. I had a lot left over. The year after I scaled down and ended up shutting down early. Last year I bought a lot and it still seemed like not enough. But then, I am living in an area that’s building up.

Grog where I live the neighborhood isn’t safe for little kids. We have trouble makers that go around in vehicles throwing things at people. Just last year I was hit in the arm by an egg thrown at me, Not only did I have yoke on me, but my arm where the egg hit swelled up and hurt for a few days.

That is sad, Little Sister. I now understand why, but it’s not atall fair to the kids. There should be a safe party zone that they can be ferried to and be driven home with a little loot.

I’m sorry Little Sisteryou were hurt….what a cowardly thing to do to you. Halloween should be a fun time for all.

Hubby and I dressed up like cats one year and handed out candy…some of the younger kids were’nt real sure what to think of us…The Mom of one little fellow told us he had said before coming up the sidewalk, “Those are sure big cats…I hope they like me.” We have about 60 kids usually.

In a huge apartment complex we have kids. I plan to try to pick up one of the assortments of hard candy. I’d rather give chocolate, but one huge bag of mixed hard candies is the same price as one small bag of the chocolaty stuff.

In Houston we had the Candy Man. He took the giant pixie sticks and put in some type of poison. He was trying to kill his kids, and to ‘cover his tracks’ he had prepared more than the 2 and had given them out. Anyway…..that made a lot of parents very nervous about going door to door, you never know what idiot hears some ‘voice’ telling ‘em to kill the kids. The shopping malls hit on the idea of having trick or treat at the mall. The stores had candies and such for the kids and it was much safer than door to door.
