Could you help me to understand why you are erasing the menu that we enjoy when coming on this comic site? It was left alone until recently…it is fun to have while reading and sharing…Please, may we have our menu?
Hey all I have been busy and signed up for two spring classes. Taking one subject over, not surprise on my part. I’ve been missing a lot of my favorite comic strips. I work on tests on Saturdays. I am glad elections are over.
For Friday I go in one hour more though I have a week coming the Admin Assist not interested. Too many days came and went I could have gotten a lot of my time in. At least in Dec I will be off for my special day.
EIDo - It’s getting cold here (more normal temps). Have freeze warnings out now. Corrently it’s 52° here. At least the tree leaves should finally change color!
That is like my tree. It usually turns bright red and the other trees in tne neighborhood all turn yellow. With a long warm spell it will be interesting to see how the trees look this year.
EIDo - Those are leaves. The sun is to the side, almost behind. If I took the photo earlier in the day the light would be better. I just decided to take it this afternoon. Might be able to see it better on Photobucket, 77sojo77. The wind was blowing a lot and took a small photo to post it.
Hi, Sojo!
We planted maples hoping to get color, but they’ve never lived up to my hopes in that department in all the years since we planted them. We get some colors some years, but with the winds, they don’t stay pretty for long. I guess that’s why people don’t come here to view the fall colors.
Rmom - A group of us road our motorcycles on the highway in Arkansas in fall for the leaf color one year. It was on of the top three highways in the country for that. Talk about heavy traffic!
Eldo - I’m sure those are maple - we planted them. Back when my oldest was doing Biology, we had to identify a variety of trees. I think we have 10 different kinds on our property, some I had never heard of before. I think I remember what type of tree each one is, although that isn’t something I’m good at. Both my parents were good at plant identification, growing up on farms. I spent enough years before I left home gardening, etc., but just never really got the hang of it. My parents learned to not have me weed, because I’d pull out stuff they’d planted. I did get stuck with picking & cleaning strawberries though - they planted 1000 plants one year.
We saw the golden yellow Aspens when we were on our Wyoming trip this year and also have seen them in Colorado other years. Lovely against the dark green backgrd.
I have a colorful Maple of red and yellow…not a Sugar. It was planted when we bought the house 12 years ago.
Sojo - I’ve been in Arkansas during the fall - it is pretty then. Parts of our neighborhood remind me of that state. It is rather nice to be in an area where much of the trees, bushes, etc. are volunteer rather than deliberately planted, as it makes for quite the variety.
At 4 pm CDT I turned on the site Montana Lady suggested and saw no one. Checked a little later and saw a lady in a red jacket with another person that could have been her….the time on the camera was saying 1:56 etc. so I don’t know…maybe they had gone on Standard time early??
Any red we have seems to be from the sumac. I’ve heard of poisonous sumac, is there a non-poisonous variety? Poison ivy doesn’t bother us, the sumac doesn’t either.
I’m glad the yappyness seems to have returned to the Big Top. It’s been a bit too quiet the past few days.
Speaking as a native of Colorado - yes the Aspens do turn. Typically referred to as Golden around here. There are some areas, and some years, that are better than others though.
da strip - I’m not typically afraid of clowns, but I think i’m a bit afraid of that game, and becoming more so by the day…
HopeandJoy - I don’t think the time is accurate, it doesnt change often. The web cam on the right doesn’t seem to work, I think it’s still the same pic that was there this morning. Old Faithfull updates most of the time.
HopeandJoy - I was noticing that it didn’t appear to be refreshing. Apparently they were taking the camera’s down mid October to be moved and had said it would take about 2 weeks for them to be moved and rewired. I’m wondering if it just took them longer than expected, and they aren’t back up yet.
Johanan Rakkav, once I made a heavy paper small stellated dodecahedron, but I had to find this great stellated version on the ‘net.
We do get leaf-color changes, most years, especially to various golds and browns–but we also get enough wind that the leaves don’t last long on the trees, and the leaves from Bismarck get raked up in Sioux Falls or Yankton… .
Ah, ElDo, I understand. I have been fairly good at spelling most of my life, but once I started reading more British literature, I found I got confused on the correct American spelling of a word sometimes.
LadyHawk When I watched the Geyser on the Left pic, it would change and the people were in different attitudes etc. The pic on the right never changed as you said. Anyway, at one time it looked like the lady in Red sweater was Waving at camera. I just watched for 5 minutes.
HopeandJoy - maybe you did get lucky and see her then. Every time I looked there wasn’t anyone on the left pic, so I couldn’t tell that it had changed.
Lonewolf and James We get to see the Bulls quite a bit. I like seeing them. Basketball is my favorite. Just finished watching Duke in an exhibition game on the internet…my goodness they looked a bit shabby,,not too sharp! They did some good things too but I bet they are dreading the game film tomorrow.
ElDo - I know there will always be disagreements between the Yanks and everyone else on what is “correct” for spelling and pronunciations. But I try to use American spellings as MY standard - others will use the British accepted spelling, and that’s okay with me. It is quite amusing sometimes, my youngest, who has never left the U.S. mainland, has been asked more than once if he’s British. He has just a hint of a British accent, definitely does NOT sound like he’s lived in KS his whole life, which is the case. We’ve got theories on why, but it is still a bit of a mystery.
Hi, Wolfie & Hope&joy!
I can tell you’re watching a game of some kind, but wanted to pop in and reply to ElDo.
Tomorrow’s another busy day - gotta head back to the big city and see my doctor. At least I’ve got a good report for him, so maybe he can quit changing my meds, and I won’t have to see him as often. (Don’t mind seeing him, it’s that bill I don’t like!)
When our friends from Brighton, England visit, we play scrabble but MUST use Oxford!!
I had fun in an Elizabethan Lit course I took a few years back… especially with dear Spenser. Oddly it helped me translate my grandfather’s writing and recognize letters. Also, My husband believes the English language gives us a large volume of words from which we can choose to express ourselves…adjectives etc. I need to practice more!!
Thanks, Wolfie! - Me too!
Hope&joy - My hubby has a horrible time with spelling - each of our sons have only 4 letters in their first names, which helps him to spell them correctly. Part of his problem is a genetic learning problem, part of it was the educational method used on him.
Our oldest son inherited his dad’s learning problem, but does much better at spelling comparatively, thanks to the education he received at the proper time. (Tries to not break arm patting myself on my back.)
I read a lot of British literature to the family during our homeschooling years: G.A. Henty, Sherlock Holmes, Brother Cadfael, etc.
When my son & I play Scrabble, we’re not as strict with the rules as some probably are. The other person has to accept it as a valid word, but it depends on how far along in the game we are, because closer to the end, we’re not as picky about using proper names, acronyms, etc.
