Oooh, you are going to die!@StelBel – You can mail order thick sliced pepper bacon from Nueske’s, perhaps the best bacon on this planet. They are in Wittenburg, WI.
@x_Tech Thanks for re-posting the link for Maple Pepper Bacon recipe. That sounds even better than plain pepper bacon. It is now in my recipe file. Thanks, again.
@ Dry I hate it when CBS programs start late because of earlier programming running over. I caught the beginning 20-someodd minutes, then fell asleep during CSI Miami. That’s maddening. Oh well, I’ll catch up replaying it on the computer. Sounds like a good episode.I, too, have many old cookbooks, both from family or found at yard sales, etc. I just came across my mother’s handwritten recipe for Russian Tea Cakes that she liked to make at Christmas time, complete with a few batter stains on it! It brought tears to my eyes. I think I’ll frame it along with a picture of her, and hang it in the kitchen.BTW, I love yard sales!!!! Don’t you? It’s that time of year again…….!
StelBel, that boxer should cheer puppybreath up. Very cute.
I love yard sales, but I hate to get up that early to go to them! :-D And I especially hate having my own. My sons talked me into having one last year. We made about 70 bucks, if that much. And we had to split it between us. Ended up taking everything else to Goodwill. Except my dad’s books. Still have them boxed up and would love to sell them.
We can only hope that Cuddles is as hopeless in this endeavor as he is in every other challenge he faces. Here in the PNW we have a fantastic bacon and ham producer called Hempler’s. It is so lean that you need to grease a pan when cooking it. And the flavor…addicting.Good morning to all the hungry CD diners.
Thank you StelBel for your offer of lo-cal but that’s my problem…don’t eat too much lo-cal. My Mom was Ukranian and she cooked a lot of gooood stuff. Then she married my Stepdad who was Italian and she cooked a lot of goood stuff. So you can see my background was a lot of goood food and and I’m still lovin the goood stuff :-D
Good morning Grog, Dry, Cleo, Lonewolf, Stelbel, puppybreath, noicant & all CDers who are munching their way through the day.
Busy day today. Had Dr. appointment first thing, then I took in my car for service. It had one of those check ingine light thingies. While it was being serviced, I bought my new car. An ice blue metallic Chevy Cruse ECO. Very nice car. I’m really going to enjoy driving it.
chefwen What is the time difference there? From our East Coast? My friend went there on her honeymoon, but I forget what she said. I know it was a LONG flight for them and they got jet lag.
The Cruse ECO can get up to 42 highway miles per gallon. I like those numbers – especially with fuels price heading up the 5 gallon way. And it’s a nice roomy car too with a few bells & whistles like XM radio. I can get music from the 40’s 50’ 60’ 70’s or 80’s. There’s even a Springsteen station. I won’t buy into it for talk radio, but I will for commercial free music of my liking. I can check my tire pressure, battery level and oil level among other things. The technology has come a long way in 10 years.
Your apologies for gloating? Oh PLEASE FELLOW BABY! :-D So what are you going to do with the other car now? And I assume the other car is not the Aveo? That was totaled was it not? But I told you, when hubby was looking at the Aveo, I told him he was nuts, as our sons would be driving it. We have XM on the Cobalt, and I do like listening to FoxNews on it sometimes on road trips, but I do like more so, Pulse, zoo100 New York, and the 80’s and 90’s stations. I also LOVE when we are on road trips on Sundays that we can get Westwood One for NFL games. The vehicle we put that much into was the Olds 88 1998. We only paid 2200 for it and can’t afford a new car payment now, so ….. I do prefer driving a little higher up as in my Blazer, though.
I thought about that too Fellow Baby I’ll have access to sports, but I’m usually at home for the sporting events I want to see.
I’m keeping the Cavalier. I love that car, believe it or not. My salesman commented on how clean and how it looks as good as the day I bought it. It’s not a muscle car, but it’s got a lot on a lot of the newer model vehicles. I would not trade it in for one of them. I still see plenty of Cavaliers on the road today. They’re a good and powerful little car.
Fellow Baby Cavaliers were good little cars. Yes, I see a LOT of Cobalts around, but not so many AVEOS! Those were like a tin can. That’s why I didn’t want my sons driving the dang thing!
I am SO PISSED! I just spent a freakin hour trying to order my hubby’s bd present. JC Penney’s new website SUC S! BIG TIME! I am SO MAD! Needless to say, the gift didn’t get ordered. I gave up as I said “Scr_w it!”
I guess it depends on where you live, what people drive, huh?
Say, totally changing subjects here, what do you think about Peyton heading to Denver, so it seems? I thought for sure he would go to Tenn. because of all his ties there, youngest, the Peyton fan, thought the 49’ers. LOL, never fails, hubby bought me a $75. GB Brett Favre jersey for Christmas, THE year. Then I went and got youngest a Peyton Jersey for Christmas last year! I swear, I think in this family we CURSE our football heroes! :-D And I hope Tebow goes somewhere where he can SHINE. I think he can be great if given the chance.
OH Fellow Baby, PEYTON WILL NOT BE SECOND FIDDLE! Tebow will be second string, or go elsewhere, and maybe he will never get his chance to shine. But I am not surprised that Elway threw Tebow under the bus. I never did like Elway, “too full of himself” you know?
Oh, my. I actually liked Elway. I went for Denver over the Pack just so Elway could win a Superbowl before he retired. After he retired, I could care less about Denver. For so many years Elway had to do it all himself until they finally built a team around him and gave him someone else to do the running.
As for Peyton, he may have to deal wit that soon enough, or retire – which is what I think he should have done in the first place. He sure as hell doesn’t need the money. And He’s not going to win a Superbowl in Denver. He just doesn’t have the supporting cast. I think Peyton will be sidelined (by injury) by the second game and Tebow will play out the rest of the season if he decided to stay.
I don’t have to work tomorrow or Wednesday, but I’m not too far behind you. It’s been a long day and tomorrow will be one stormy day that I won’t mind sitting out.

StelBel the Cruze and the truck line are what are keeping Chevy going right now. It’s hard to believe the Malibu or Impala aren’t bigger sellers.

And it still gets pretty good highway mileage too. I can’t say the same about your Blazer – as safe as you may be.

I guess Denver has little faith in Tebow – unless they want him to learn from the great one for a year or 2. Or maybe Peyton will play second fiddle.
