This is a repost from yesterday for those who couldn’t read it
It’s a Beach Boys endless summer weekend on ’60’s on 6 Satelite radio. It’s hard to believe that a bunch of old geezers who started together in 1962 can still sound so good in their presumed 70’s.
this is the best time of the year for me. In two hours I’m going to get on my bicycle and pedal a mile to within 300 yards of my seat , high in the 4th turn for today’s Indianapolis 500.It’s going to be a hot hot hot one today, temps up to 95. the temps will be hot but this is so COOL!have a good day everyone, I will
Good morning CD kids. I like many others couldn’t get here yesterday. Darn gremlins are everywhere. It’s gonna be a hot one here today at 96 degrees. Little man and I are soon off to plant memorial flags at the veterans cemetery. It’s a boy scout tradition and this will be our first year..Gotta run kids. Hope to get back later, if I can?
Fellow Baby you will be happy to know, or not, if you don’t like the groups, but I LOVE THEM, they still have the ORIGINAL EARTH, WIND AND FIRE, SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE, AND LIONEL RITCHIE AND THE COMMODORES!
They also had “We’ve Only Just Begun” , original song and music, sounded good, but I don’t think it was Karen Carpentar, but I haven’t heard her voice for so long, I could be wrong. Gee, that was sad when she died so young. Back in the day, I loved their music, still enjoy hearing it, but only once in a while these days, mostly for nostalgia’s sake.
Fellow Baby, I have and still love On The Cover of Rolling Stone. I have to admit I was not a big fan of the Commodores or Lionnel Richie. In the 70’s I preferred the likes of April Wine, Blondie, Jackson Browne, Eric Clapton, Jim Croce, The Doobie Brothers, ELO, Foreigner, Genesis, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Meatloaf, Queen, Linda Ronstadt, Rush, Bob Seger, Springsteen, Styx, Supertramp, Sweet, George Thoroughgood, Van Halen, Joe Walsh and even The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. And I’m sure I must have missed somthing but that covers a number of my favorites from the 70’s
Fellow Baby most of who you mentioned I LOVE and have many on discs, and tape. But I must take issue with, and even The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. My GAWD those 2 on the same PLAYBILL AND IN CONCERT was the BEST BEST BEST CONCERT I EVER ATTENDED!BEST EVER!And VAN HALEN, HEART, BOB SEGER, GENESIS, geez, etc, etc, I THINK WE HAVE A TRUE TASTE IN THE SAME MUSIC! The only one missing is Barry White! MAN, I LOVED HIS SINGING AND HIS SONGS!
Fellow Baby, Jackson Browne I don’t consider mellow, sometimes, but not for the most part. Jim Croce and James Taylor, definitely. You know, when speaking of mellow, you forgot Neil Young! I just LOVE HARVEST MOON!
I’m Canadian and I can’t stand him. And I don’t consider him mellow. I still have Cinimon Girl, Sugar Mountain & Hey, Hey, My My, Rock and Roll Will Never Die buried in my memory. I need the brain bleach from Dinette Set. As Skynyrd put it, a southern man don’t need him around anyhow.
I am not familiar with Jake and Elwood. Perhaps a song but not them specifcilly. And yes, Fellow Baby the song was Fire, though they only played a few seconds of it.
My favorite Canadian bands were The Lovin’ Spponful, Bryan Adams, April Wine, Rush, Luba and Amanda Marshall. I also liked, Alanis Morisette and Alannah Myles. Myles could rock but she had a bad attitude.
OMG, you don’t like Sugar Mountain and Hey Hey? The others you mentioned I don’t think I know. And what does being Canadian have to do with it? Pardon my ignorance here. I truly don’t understand that one. :-)
Do you remember anything from The Blues Brothers movie, Fellow Baby? They covered Give Me Some Lovin’, Sweet Home Chicago, Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, the theme to Rawhide and original artists Aretha Franklin did Respect and Ray Charles did Shake Your Tail Feather
Oh LOL! We ate at a restaurant some years ago in Kingston, if I am not mistaken it was owned by John Sebastian. And I must admit, I am not familiar with Luba, but then again, if I heard one of the songs I probably would be.
I mean, I had my son’s college graduation “down pat”, no crying, no weeping, totally COOL until they played POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE! I had totally FORGOTTEN that part of graduation! That always makes me cry, even if I just hear that DAMN THING!
Fellow Baby, Madonna may have controlled the American pop airwaves in the 80’s but Luba was by far and away my favorite female vocalist. She had a great voice that unfortunately did not have a southern reach.
Fellow Baby I was NEVER A FAN OF MADONNA! I liked a couple of her songs, and that was it. Now someone like ADELE, YES SIR! I SURE AS HECK HOPE SHE STAYS AS NATURAL AND NORMAL AS SHE SEEMS TO BE! AND WHAT A VOICE!
Hey, you might as well, you’re time zone is behind mine, and you are off tmr so what the hey! I know, I’m pulling a *Shika move, but I have learned from the Maestro! ;-D
