“White House pets come in every size, shape, and species. What are some of the pets that belong to the world’s most powerful men and their families? John Quincy Adams’ alligator liked to slither across the White House steps and was fond of chasing the guests! Thomas Jefferson took walks around the garden with his pet grizzly bears! James Buchannan received a herd of elephants from the King of Siam! William Howard Taft, who was fond of creamy fresh milk, kept a milk cow in the kitchen! " (_Wackiest White House Pets" by Kathryn Gibbs Davis)
Here are exterior and interior shots of the Mayflower II. The interior shows about 80% of the below-deck space available for the “Pilgrims” during the 9-wk. journey…keep in mind, over a hundred people were down there for a good part of the time, and only sporadically allowed on deck for fresh air. Otherwise, they’d be in the way of the business of sailing the ship.
Howdy Citizens of Dog, 2 and 4 footed alike. Interesting photos Stel. I have to agree with jessegooddoggy, I think I would have stayed in Europe as well.
yup…im sore this morning.its raining so i am going to be content with light housekeeping.the heaviest thing i am doing today is push a vacuum cleaner around.…and maybe move some boxes of books around…: D
Hi, Shika. it was at TB that you made your comment. I think I’ll pass on commenting on it since we’re on opposing ends of a political position. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got plenty to say, but this isn’t the place.
Fellow Baby, I’m listening to Heart’s Jupiter’s Darling for the very first time. I’m liking it so far. But don’t expect to hear the same kind of stuff you heard in the 80’s. I’d say they’ve gone back to their roots as I expect them to do in the the albums to follow.
Desire Walks On was a much better album than I thought it was after giving it another listen last night. I thought it showed some shades of the old Heart on some of their cuts.
i have always liked classical, its just that with things the way they are now, classical is the way to go for me.i find that even the most “rousing” passages in a piece are soothing.as for the 40s?if i had bin born back then i would have bin a hep cat.i bet i would have looked GOOD in a zoot suit.
My dad liked classical, but my mom was 14 years younger and pretty much grew up with those big bands. She had a lot of those old 78’s in her collection. In my youth I may not have been big on the 40’s but I loved and still love In the Mood.
As an afterthought, Fellow Baby Heart’s first 4 albums were the most listenable from start to finish of all of their albums through the 80’s. Even Magazine which was the weakest of the 4 had 5 solid songs. I Love Without You & I’ve Got the Music In Me from that one, though the hits were Heartless & Magazine.
Oh wow! So many good remembrances of songs here. Yes, Fellow Baby Dreamboat Annie would be my second favorite of Heart’s I think. Back to Swing Era, In the Mood is one of my favorites, as is “Moonlight Serenade”, “Begin the Bequine”; “Summertime”, “As Time Goes By”, “Stormy Weather”, “Get Your Kicks on Route 66” and from the early 50’s “Mr. Sandman”. I grew up with those songs playing in my house. I guess that’s why I can appreciate songs of those eras, and songs from mine.
happy I also enjoy a lot of Classical music as well. And I can see how it would make you feel better. And for the record, I THINK YOU WOULD LOOK GREAT IN A ZOOT SUIT!
And BTW, I am proud of you that you know to fold a fitted sheet! Me, I just roll it up inside the flat sheet with the pillowcases until I need to use them! Call me LAZY!
well,my team won, so i am happy tonight.and on that note, i think i am going to start getting ready to call it a night.it started raining this afternoon and if i am lucky some showers will come through when i lay down, and lull me to sleep.good night people and pets.

And that’s it for me. As usual, I want to get an early start on my errands so that I can kick back and watch the Irish play in the afternoon.
Good night fellow CDers.
