There is at least one photograph of Queen Victoria smiling. She thought it undignified to smile for a portrait. The smiling photograph was taken when she was unaware of the fact. I could not locate in on the internet, but I remember seeing it on TV years ago.
Although judging from the pictures I’ve seen of her when she was younger, I doubt it was that she considered it undignified (though that may be what she told people.) It appears to me, that she was just uncomfortable with her smile.
I know how she feels. I feel goofy when I smile for pictures, as I don’t much like my smile, either.
i have a picture of Queen Victoria with a full smile…it’s in a book and i’d have to scan it….she is with her daughter, granddaughter and baby great granddaughter (Who was the mother of Prince Philip) and she has a full on smile…she looks quite different….
One of the paintings of Queen Victoria smiling - well, smirking at least - is on the cover of “I Can Has Empire?”
Today’s strip originally ran… wait, it first ran today. First really original Sunday in a while.
Also, today’s strip is one of the first to be included in a new product offering through the TNAOQV store. You can get framed prints of today’s strip or “Fweep Fweep Fweep” at http://bit.ly/e84pP
Any particular strips any of you would like to see in frames, please let me know.
How many smiling photos of anybody from that era have you seen? Cameras were so slow that the subject had to use a “low maintenance” expression (and hidden armatures to support the rest of the body!)

I did find a portrait of a very young Queen Victoria with a smile (sort of).

Of course, now that I think of it, once Albert died, the “widow of Windor” had very little to smile about.

snicker 2,000 monkeys with typewriters? Apparently someone’s got hold of my old biology book. :)
You’re a genius, Pab. Never lose you’re sense of humor. Some days it’s the only sanity one has left!
