Honestly I never understood the appeal of having a flaming piece of paper in front of my face. Also I am so petrified of being burned I cannot make a lighter or match stick work any way so I guess I’ll never know. Not a complaint, I like looking young for my age.

Nicotine is actually a remarkable substance. It settles the nerves and focuses the mind.(1) It’s also REMARKABLY addictive (I’ve heard that it’s harder to shake than heroin), and in concentration is an effective poison (I’m talking about “sudden death”; the long-term health risks are well known, and I do not dispute them).

If there were NO enjoyment to be had in smoking, then as you suggest it’s unlikely that it would have caught on. If you haven’t tried it, it’s difficult to see the appeal, but speaking as one who has tried unsuccessfully to quit, I’m not suggesting you DO try it, because you might very well find yourself enjoying it.

    (1) This is not Big Tobacco propaganda. A study was conducted giving three groups a series of tasks to complete which required concentration and attention to detail. The group of smokers who were allowed to smoke while they took the test completed it more quickly and accurately than the group consisting of non-smokers. But the smokers who were NOT allowed to smoke underperformed the non-smokers substantially.

(1a) The curious property of being both a stimulant and a relaxant is one it shares with that other “problem drug”, alcohol.

It is good to see her smoking again, she looks far sexier when she smokes.
