It is amazing how quickly time flies by. Six years and billions and billions of dollars spent. And, I just realized the Iraq war has been going on longer than my relationship with my wife. God, what a waste. And I do mean the war, not my relationship.

It’s all part of the Bush legacy, Cleokaya.

Just ask Rush. It’s all part of the Republican strategy. Destroy the country. Destroy the economy. Destroy the world opinion of the U.S.A.

Then when the populace throws the bastards out of office, destroy all the fixes that the Obama administration tries to enact.

Then try to get back into power and finish destroying our nation.

    It’s all good.

Anthony 2816, you are indeed correct. As I remember it, there wasn’t a single democrat that voted to go into Iraq. While we’re talking years, let’s not forget that little 10+ year stretch we did in Vietnam that was started by another Republican lie and ended by a good democrat,

DesultoryPhillipic, I’m sorry, I’m as big a Democratic supporter as they come, but that’s just not true…. There were 82 Dems in the House and 29 Dems in the Senate (a majority of the Dems in the Senate) that voted Aye on the resolution to go to war. See http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2002/roll455.xml and http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/rollcalllists/rollcallvote_cfm.cfm?congress=107&session=2&vote=00237

I wish we didn’t have the Iraq war in first place so the Iraqi should be strong enough to fight against the terrorists to the end in their own native country.

Our leaders have failed us. They no longer deserve our respect. Let the Revolution begin.

Before the Bolshevik Revolution Lenin said, “The worse things get, the better they are.” They did not want the Tsar’s reforms and other public programs to work because then the Tsar could stay in power. Both the Democrats AND the Republicans are the same. We can’t allow things to succeed because the other guy will get the credit and we’ll be out. George Washington was right in his Farewell Address to Congress. “Beware permanent alliances with foreign powers, sectionalism in America and political parties.” We have done all three things he warned against. Washington would weep for America today.

Desultory is so close to being right (even in sarcasm) - WMD was the equivalent of the Tonkin Gulf Resolution - i.e., staged to support the political agenda. But you can’t compare Dems and Repubs, because starting with LBJ, all those Southern Democrats fled to the Republican party over the Civil Rights Act, so it really WAS Repubs that started Vietnam, at least in today’s political dollars!

~ It must be the horrible headache that I have that’s the reason for me commenting on this. An American political party was to blame for WWII? To the best of of my recollection, the war that my Father fought in was started by the majority political party in Germany. The seeds for that party’s rise to power were sown in the Treaty of Versailles after WWI.

An update to the Viet-Nan version:

Fixin’ to Lie Rag by Randall Bart

Come on all you Americans. Bush is President again. He found a guy who’s really bad. The name’s Saddam. He’s in Baghdad. So show some ID, take off your shoes. What have you got to lose?

And it’s one, two, three, What are we searching for? George said it, it must be true. I believe in W. And it’s five, six, seven, Tell me who I should hate. There’s no need to wonder why, ‘Cause Presidents never lie.

The USA’s the worldwide cop, And evildoers must be stopped. Saddam’s got nukes and poison gas. Let’s go kick him in the ass. Conquer the land, sell off the oil. To the victor goes the spoil.

And it’s one, two, three, What are we searching for? George said it, it must be true. I believe in W. And it’s five, six, seven, Tell me who I should hate. There’s no need to wonder why, ‘Cause Presidents never lie.

Now there’s rebuilding to be done. Halliburton is the one. Cheney says they have the skills. We’re the ones who pay the bills. So give up your rights. Write me a check. We’ll make the whole world a wreck.

And it’s one, two, three, What are we paying for? Dick said it, it must be spent. He’s our Vice President. And it’s five, six, seven, Tell me who I should hate. There’s no need to wonder why. Vice Presidents never lie.

Anyone who has to ask what Obama is doing about our troops in Iraq is ignoring reality. He’s announced plans for troop withdrawals. It’ll take a few years, but he’s aiming to bring them home. At least as many as he can. It’s such a mess in there that total abandonment done too quickly will make matters worse.

As much as I probably side with you about the Iraq war, I have to disagree with your assertion about Vietnam. Although Eisenhower (R) (the one who also first warned us about the Military-Industrial Complex) sent a small handful of advisors to the Army of Vietnam, it was Kennedy (D) that began US led counterinsurgency operations in Vietnam, and Johnson (D) that began the bombings and full scale military operations. It was under Nixon (R) that the peace accords were signed, and the last US troops were pulled out under Ford (R).

Baslim: I agree with your sentiments on the Military-Industrial Complex. Our nation and economy depend on such an establishment. I pray that we are able to convert our swords into plowshares and find some new establishment on which to build our economy. RAH had many excellent alternatives. Space explortation and exploitation would be one alternative. Creation of a national health care system would be another. Instead of fighting ‘the Enemy’ (ever read 1984?) we should fight disease and hunger. There are always alternatives. We just have to be brave enough and strong enough to not settle for the easy ones.
