B.D.: This really is surprisingly decent coffee... wonder who pays for it... Elias: Do anything interesting over the summer, amigo? B.D.: Interesting? Well, I went to a town hall. B.D.: Oh, yeah? How'd that go? B.D.: Pretty chaotic, but it wasn't as bad as you heard in the media... the protestors were just regular folks taking a principled stand against government-run health care programs! Elias: You mean like vet centers? B.D.: That's different. The government doesn't run this place - you guys do! Elias: Right. So what happened next? B.D.: Nothing - the meeting was called off when the congressman received a death threat! Elias: What? That's an outrage! B.D.: I know! Democracy does not work if our leaders are cowards!

These good principled people decided to threaten the congressmanās life.
My congressman, Rep. Dennis Moore of Kansas had his life threatened twice by these same principled people.

yup, the āmy life (and lifestyle) is more important than anyone elseāsā groupā¦. so very āprincipledā that they ignore anything in the bible they donāt want to do/doesnāt fit their ideas, and then they pick out obscure passages to misinterpret and try to push on the rest of us.

Deuteronomy 21:18-21 (New International Version)
A Rebellious Son
18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, 19 his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. 20 They shall say to the elders, āThis son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard.ā 21 Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.
and: Leviticus 20:9 (New International Version)
9 ā āIf anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.

rricchhterr said: seems like the healthcare industry is preying on the weakā¦
Actually rricchhter, I think the health care industry preys more on the strong and those who can afford to pay. Once theyāve drained them and they have become weak and poor, they donāt care about them.
Having a non-profit in the mix doesnāt seem like a bad idea at all.

The problem comes when the insurers, who have cherry-picked the well and skipped over the codgers who are coming to the point where they are about to cost some money to support, decide to drop their once-lucrative customers once they get sick. So the āpublic optionā would get loaded with the sick and indigent, and not be so good a deal. Itās skewed, because the whole Risk Pool isnāt included.
Medicare for All wouldnāt have that problem.

LLeRay,
āOldā and ānewā are useless terms. Some old ideas are bad, some new ideas are bad. What matters is good and bad.
Are Obama and Waxman bringing good ideas to the table? Are the Republicans? Long list of Republican proposals cited here:

Studiously ignoring the religio-politico huggamugga:
OlāFart: Apparently you and I are kinfolk. :-)
Yuseff: Apparently you and I are neighbors, since we share a congressperson. Iām in KCK. Where are you?

Of course thereās no real difference between government funded health care which was promised to veterans in exchange for their service, a quid pro quo arrangement if you will, and government funded health care for folks who have never done anything to deserve it other than to vote for the cretins who have made health care into the same emergency that Social Security was a couple years ago.

I think it may be more appropriate to say they are PRAYING on the weak!
