One day, when I was about six, the neighborhood bully tried to beat me up and I pushed him into a mud puddle. About 20 minutes later his father came over to talk to my father. Fortunately, all the did was talk. More fortunately, the bully never tried to beat me up anymore. Calvin is on the right track; he just needs a little more beef on his bones. He also needs to throw the first punch.
I had a bigger kid pull a chair out from under me one day in the lunchroom while saying, â I need that.â I remember hitting the floor and the lunch table on the way down pretty hard. Iâm not sure if I passed out for a minute or not but I remember seeing stars and just sitting there in shock from the whole incident. It took a minute or two before I started to cry and feel the pain as I saw the principal litterly drag the kid out of the lunchroom.
Happy holidays to everyone!
Bullyâs arenât the tough ones. Itâs the quiet ones that have the real steel in them. Calvin gives him a poke in the snout and things would change.
Iâm sorry you had to remember something like that on Christmas Dino. I remember having bullies pick on me in the third grade and theyâd chase me home from school to beat me up. It started because I had a big mouth but eventually I just left them alone and didnât say anything to them anymore but they kept beating me up. Finally my parents had to get involved. And I learned to run home real fast. That came in handy later on when I was running home from school to watch my favourite show of all time.
Having trouble finding the answer online - Can anyone tell me if Calvinâs middle name or last name was ever revealed or known??? Thanks-
Neither was ever revealed, nor were the first names of Calvinâs parents. Bill Watterson simply never bothered with such details, since he considered them irrelevant.
I guess back then there where no rules about bullies.
When I was in Jr. High, this is ages ago but I never forgot, a black girl jabbed my right arm with a pencil that hurt the teacher sent us both to the principle and the girl lied saying I called her names. The principle didnât know who was tellin the truth I told him she poked me with a pencil and I had proff he threathen to suspend us. years later last day of school 12th grade the same black girl came to me at my locker and tried to get me to fight her I would not she inturn made mince meat out of my right arm I reported this to the a teacher, then principle, then police and the girl got kicked out of school I was in tears and it took over two weeks for my arm to heal. All the kids turned against me for turning her in. I told them she hurt me didnât make any difference. Iâm white.
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
I Timothy 1:15
The next day John saw Jesus coming unto him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
John 1:29
Have a âswingingâ Christmas! Thatâs all there is; there isnât any âMoeâ!
Maybe not, ratlum. Bill W. wrote (in one of his book collections) that he thought bullies like Moe spawned on locker room floors. :)
Susan001: Calvin âSpacemanâ Spiff? OK, Iâll go with that. (LOL)
BONUS QUESTION: What was the name of the âstupidâ cat who lived next door to Snoopy (in Peanuts)? Yes, he did have a name, but you had to be reading the strip at exactly the right time to spot itâŠCharlie Brown gave it.
OK. His name was âWorld War IIâ. See, Snoopy and Peppermint Patty had gotten into a fight with the cat the day before (in the strip). Charlie Brown saw it and exclaimed (for the reader) that âSnoopy and Peppermint Patty are fighting World War II, the cat who lives next door!â
Next frame:
Charlie Brown - âItâs over! Itâs over!â
Next frame (our heros are badly mauled):
Peppermint Patty: âDid we win or lose?â
Snoopy: âYes!â
A bully tried to take my lunch money. I didnât have any, but I figured he was broke & hungry, so I gave him my sandwich. Heâs been friendly for more than 40 years, but is now a local derelict.
Thank you Legaleagle48 and Johanan, thatâs what I thought (and later read in various articles).
The gift my wife and I gave each other this year was opening up a box with the results of what sex our baby is (expecting in May, itâs our first child). Weâre having a boy and we love the name Calvin - not after Calvin & Hobbes directly, but I admit I have a genuine adoration for the comic strip and saw a lot of myself as a boy in Calvinâs character and always thought if I had a son, heâd be like Calvin!
So being careful not to make such a direct link, we wanted to make sure we didnât give him a middle name that was by coincidence the same as the cartoon strip because then it would just be creepy!
I remember that one from Calvinâs point of view.
I realized that the bully was putting himself in front of me coming at him feet first with a little momentum behind me, so it wasnât until I got off the swing on my own later that I ended up like Calvin.

Denial of justice generally is much worse than the original injury. When justice is done, the aggrieved person can bear the injury more easily.
May 2010 be a year filled with joy, and may each of us receive mercy and kindness, as well as give them.
