Mike we have three shelter dogs. Two mixed breds and one greyhound. They’re all black and white in coloration.

I have such empathy for Calvin. How horrible to think your best friend was gone. Very sweet.

This is always a frightening time, because you feel very vulnerable . I really feel bad for Calvin and his parents.

None need explain, of course, that this has nothing to do with Suzie breaking in, and it also has nothing to do with Hobbes breaking out.

No doubt everyone involved is wishing it was one of those other options, though…

L’Wolf, One of my dogs is a Husky/Chow Mix, Bert is my favorite dog even if Loki is more handsome.

Betcha Hobbes is somewhere licking his paws over a pile of burglar bones.

I marvel at how, with just a few pencil strokes, Bill can show so much emotion on Calvin’s face.

Good morning all! Poor Calvin, he feels like his world has come to an end. And he’ll blame himself ‘cause HE forgot Hobbes. Then he’ll blame Dad.

remember when this story arc started Hobbes was under Calvin’s covers (unmade bed…) with just his tail sticking out. Bet they find him there and in just that pose. But I agree that the artwork is fantastic. Poor Calvin . Glad Mom (as stressed as she must be right now) takes his hand to go help Calvin find him.

From now on I think everyone should just comment about their dogs and forget about the comic strip.

I just worry that Hobbes jumped out the window and is now alone in the big bad world without opposable thumbs. He won’t even be able to hitchhike. (Not that anyone would actually pick up a hitchhiking tiger.)

C’MON, DAD! FIRST THINGS FIRST!

Gotta get my two cents worth in re: dogs. I foster and train dogs for my local humane society, and also do private training occasionally. I have three purebred dogs of my own that I adopted because psychological or chronic physical problems made them “unadoptable”. It’s taken years of rehab and medical treatment, but they are as loving and obedient as they can be, and the problems with their health have pretty much been put under control. They are Lola, Bill, and Lyric. An Old English Sheepdog, a Smooth Fox Terrier, and a Golden Retriever. It does my heart good to hear the stories about the shelter dogs you guys are sharing your lives and love with. Bless You!

Huh… Did anyone else have a tear in their eye on this one?

Good Morning All.

First of my furry family was a long haired black cat from the streets of Key West. Never got over 9 pounds but fluffed out to look ferocious. Then my Granddaughter showed up with a very shy Orange cat. We had need of a watch dog after a break-in so Kizzy came from a shelter near Cocoa Beach. Now 15 1/2 she still takes her duties serious yet is very friendly. On an extended road trip Kizzy found a border collie mix, bleeding internally, on a high desert mountainside in central Mexico. Miles from any source of drinking water Pauli had to learn to use a water bowl. When called she runs the perimeter of the area rather than coming in a straight line and spends her summer evenings hearding toads. Thank you to all who rescue animals!!

hehe I take most of the people posting here have not read the books? or got the strips from the paper? :) Amazing the emotion Watterson drew into calvin’s face.

not to be accused of spoiler, but hobbes is safe and susie did not break the glass, the next two days will explain it.

Actually it was Moe who broke the glass when he tried to take the baby bottle away from Suzie but as she struggled with him over the bottle it flew out of her hand and through the window, as will be explained in Wednesday’s strip.

This seems a departure from the usual Calvin. He’s more like a normal child, running to his mom, and mom taking his feelings seriously, even though she knows Hobbes is a stuffed animal. It is touching.

Hobbes is probably hiding under the bed.

I wish people who remember the story line would SHUT-UP & let the rest of us be suprised. This includes you Mike, MontanalLady & all the rest of you telling us what is oming next & those flapping about the outcome. Don’t spoil it for the rest of us. Please

Maybe Hobbes was so lonely that he went next door to be with the neighbor’s cat? Cats make for faithful friends.

It’s obvious Mike is yanking your chain. He’s obviously enjoying it, as am I, watching all the reactions. LOL

It’s so funny yet true, the minute a child is in distress he runs to his mother automatically :)

Don’t worry, troops, no one’s actually given away the resolution to the arc, and you couldn’t pay me enough to do so.

FINE! Just for that I won’t tell you that the tail operation is a total success!

I really like Calvin’s mom today.

Despite having her life and home turned upside down by a thief, the most important thing to her at that moment in time is comforting her scared, tearful son … speaking calmly and reassuringly then taking him by the hand and helping him search for his best friend in the entire world (even if Hobbes *is* only a stuffed tiger to her).

Very sweet.

It’s good to see Calvin’s Mom calm down and help him in his hour of need! Mike: I agree great looking dog! We had a black and golden lab mix (Baretta) that had the golden’s fur but black in color. Our first dog was a wolf, husky, german shepard, mix (Tuffy). Our next was a malumute (Chiante). Now we have a beagle and german shephard mix (Max-Maxamillion). They were all shelter dogs with so-called behavior problems exasperated by previous owners. We’ve loved them all for their wide variety of personalities and the joy they’ve given us!

Calvin and Hobbes are true friends ,great to see.

Mike Firesmith: Your response to Elwoodman about the new Twilight made me laugh so hard, I had coffee coming out of my nose. I’m going to laugh about it all day long.

This is the greatest comic strip ever, and I agree it does seem to attract alot of nice people. Hard to find good people anymore. Thanks Calvin and Hobbes :)

Is Mike Firesmith right in the head? WFT? Stick to the comic and knock off all the personal mess and the daily greetings to only certain people. This isn’t a chat room. If that’s what you want to do, go over to Pigborn or Bigtop, or give your gf’s your email addy, but spare the rest of us, PLEASE! You are seriously annoying.

‘Bout time at least one of the parents showed Calvin some compassion – he really does get upset and usually there is no one to turn to for comfort. Mom is acting her role well today.

They could have listened to Cal and gone back and they probably would have intercepted the burglar.

Lew – there are other animals besides humans with opposable thumbs. They are what make up the “Order Primates” and include everything from tiny Tarsiers & other Prosimians to monkeys, large apes and humans.
