I got something similar to that from out three year old (four in January) granddaughter. I was reading her a bedtime story and she let out a sigh and asked if she could watch it on DVD instead of listening to me read the book. She then told me that it was what Mom does instead of reading her a book before bed. I told her that not every story is a movie on DVD and then had to try to answer the why question once again.
The director was brilliant. Thatâs how I pictured it.
The director was an idiot. Didnât he get it?
The director was a genius. I never thought of that.
Iâm with you Fer Lefer⊠Movie first! I canât stand watching a movie after Iâve read the book, but if I watch the movie first and then read the book, then I can watch the movie and itâs not a problem!
hi be-monk
i remember that story, but itâs been years since i read any Asimov. ( i re-read âI, Robotâ when it was on my Nephewâs reading list in his first year of university; so i guess that makes it nearly ten years.)
and, âIs this a kissing book?â comes from The Princess Bride doesnât it? I love the subtitle on that book (Good Parts version), and i loved the book - the movie too!
I rarely ever read the book then see the movie and vice versa. Both versions are usually so different from each other that I end up disappointed in the end that neither one was exactly the same as the other.
Calvin is only trying to ensure he has only the highest quality material read to him to enhance his education.
Used to read the âSweet Picklesâ books to our son when he was young, and always had to do different voices. Sometimes forgot which voice went with which character from book to book, but apparently satisfactory.
I have only seen the previews for âBenjamin Buttonâ, which educated me that F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the original story. Bought a book with it in it, and decided a good movie could be made from it. But the previews of the one which WAS made had virtually no connection to the story.
B-MONK Iâm much too young to have read the originals, though I was a child prodigy before I grew into an outright steenkin genius. I didnât read that till the late 60s and unfortunately did not understand most of the science. I hope I never turn into such an ego-maniac as the author. Humility is my middle name.
âOnce Upon a Timeâ - John Gary

imho, he was one of the greatest male vocalists ever.
Thatâs a âlaudatoryâ comment, Calvin.
I love the incongruity of the child/father in a typical bedtime story situation, contrasted with Calvin who is not at all childlike. A real 6-year-old wouldnât know about the Pulitzer of NYT Bestseller list, etc.
People I know like the Dragon Ball TV series so much, theyâre probably unaware that it was a comic book first, and said comic book is actually based on a Chinese folk tale, âJourney To The Westâ, and that Goku is actually a Japanese Romanization of Wukong from the tale.

Do not judge a book by its movie.
So long, Johanan?

You should always read the book first, Calvin â itâs always better than the movie!
