He’s not giving them enough ammunition and they have to constantly resort to firing blanks. I personally would rather see this kind of sheer laziness to the alternative…
So because this was months ago it doesn’t matter anymore? Just because the media isn’t telling you that you should care about it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t. Wrong is wrong.
That being said I’m not going to pay my taxes next year, wait a couple of months for the IRS to catch up with me and say: “Hey! You’re late to the game guys! That happened months ago it’s totally ok now!”
“That being said I’m not going to pay my taxes next year, wait a couple of months for the IRS to catch up with me and say: “Hey! You’re late to the game guys! That happened months ago it’s totally ok now!””
When you pay the penalty (as those you are referring to did) then, yes, it is “totally ok now”.
Or are you one of those “you paid the penalty but you still need to be punished” type of people?
“Who paid what penalty? As far as I know Timothy Geithner is still Treasury Secretary. Did he go to jail and do his time and I missed it?”
If you fail to pay your taxes by the prescribed time, you are penalized with a fine (or, in the case of what Geithner owed working for the IMF, the past taxes plus interest).
Geithner paid what he owed. Why would he go to jail?
You’re missing the point entirely daniel. Geithner and the SEVERAL others on Obama’s staff that didn’t pay their taxes broke the law. Why would Obama appoint these people when they don’t even follow the law in the first place? Especially to be IN CHARGE of collecting taxes?
Actually, once it was brought to their attention, they all DID pay their taxes in full. That happens all the time, and the IRS is happy if they only have to bring it up once. I don’t care if they meant to or not – once it became public, they coughed up.
“Actually, once it was brought to their attention, they all DID pay their taxes in full”
I didn’t say that they didn’t EVENTUALLY pay their taxes. Several of these people didn’t pay their taxes for YEARS. You’re trying very very very hard to make it look like nothing wrong was done. They only paid those taxes because they were looking to get into the cabinet.
NICE diversion. Let’s get back to reality now, shall we?
Paying your taxes is law. If you don’t pay them, you are charged with a civil offense. The penalty of this kind of civil offense is payment of what is due plus interest.
Intentional refusal to pay is a criminal offense, yes. Simply not paying on time? Yeah, not so much.

Paying your taxes is not law? Since when?
