Then there was the Chevy Nova, which didn’t need any acronym to tell you the truth. In Mexico, the Nova was a big failure because in Spanish, “no va” means “doesn’t go.” Talk about kicking themselves in the backside without doing adequate market research.
I had an old, used Nova. I learned how to Bondo on that car. Looked pretty good when I finished. Then I got under the hood and started replacing old worn bits of this and that and a hot 4 bbl carb. Then I got into the tranny and replaced that. In the end, we called it the Incredible Hulk because what it couldn’t go around it just went right through. It was the meanest 350 CID in town and could take anything stock in the Stop Light Gran Prix. In winter, people would call in and say they were stuck and couldn’t get in to work. I’d volunteer to go get them. A lot of my work mates were really mad at me. The only race I lost with it was one winter when I was chasing a Jeep through the park in deep snow. I high centered and the Jeep kept going. Had to get the 4 wheel drive from work and pull myself out. God, that was a fun car!
I loved my Pinto, four cylinder over head cam, four on the floor, I loved it.
If they had made it front wheel drive it would have been nearly unstoppable.

Just like a child’s toy, there’ll be one piece left when it’s put back together.

Nova also means an exploding star (car?) Maybe that should have been the name used for the Pinto.

Our 1948 Desoto was great. It has “fluid drive”
Wish I had an ” Air Stream” DeSoto out of the
30’s. They didn’t sell for a hoot then, but they
were a marvelous modern design then.
