And we wonder why girls have a self esteem problem. Between the media, peers, and relatives…sheesh!

Mothers are guaranteed to go a little nuts when it comes to how their girls look. It’s hard for them to think of their girls as separate from themselves. Took 30 years to get my mother to stop trying to buy me jewelry and shoes – in her taste, of course, not mine. Even now she still wants to grumble about my clothes when I go to visit her.

They both sound like my mother. She would always put me down about my weight (I’m 5’2", very short waisted, ok, no waist, narrow hips, broad shoulders, large frame). First she would tell me I would be pretty if I would lose weight. ten minutes later she’s trying to get me to eat a banana split. She tried to pull the same crap on my daughter, but I stopped that.

Why are mom and gramma tying to make Teena something she isn’t…?
