When asked if I was concerned that the largest problems facing our country was ignorance and apathy? I said ” I don’t know and I don’t care”.

Andy Goodman has a good phrase for it: compassion fatigue. It’s not that we’re apathetic, it’s just that there’s SO much ‘bad’ out there you get tired of it.

Since when do you get “news” from a ‘tv’? There’s the problem people. News comes from newspapers and radio, not the stuff packaged for morons on tv that is called news!

I get my news from Fark.com and the Drudge report. Fark tells me all the garbage that’s fostered as news and Drudge has one of the best track records out there for accuracy. But mostly I ignore it as the comics are more entertaining and the comments are usually much more intelligent than anything on the tv or print news.

He’s not apathetic, he’s inebriated. Fortunately, over indulgence leads to all kinds of emotional outbursts, so he won’t be apathetic for long. Pretty soon he’ll either be crying in his beer or calling this guy his best buddy and buying him rounds. Alcohol–the miracle wonder drug!

even newspapers, these days, seem to be filled with (mostly) infotainment, at least the ones i get to see. i still read them, but skim a lot. as for TV: (though i still watch, occasionally,) when a sizable amount of people get their “news” from faux news shows done by comedians, it’s an indictment of how bad TV news has become. i think it started when the “look” became more important than the credentials (for anchors), and has gone down hill steadily.

Fox peddling hate? You either don’t watch MSNBC, or it’s a different “hate” you hate.

We’re getting the news the media thinks we want. In general, our attention span is getting shorter and shorter - young adults aren’t all that used to in-depth matters - sound bites, and on to the next whatever. Even bands, like n-sync or Backstreet Boys, millionaires overnight and county fairs a year later. Oh well, “who cares”, right?

Now the tricky one is: What’s the difference between apathy and equanimity? Maybe it’s caring, but being unconcerned, since it’s all Maya (illusion) anyway.

Think Globally, Act Locally; but don’t be enslaved by (or attached to) any results.
