Eve’s hair loses a lot of body between the first panel and the second.

    Also, the vase disappears!

    A mystery is afoot!

You don’t need to be invisible to wear no clothes.

I think Eve is standing in front of the vase in the second panel, and she doesn’t lose hair, it’s just reacting to the info that Dean is going to ask his friend Herb.

Now here’s a question – I really like this gag. It’s the kind of joke that works great in a comic strip. But is it too “crazy”? Do people prefer their comics to be more grounded in reality?

Well, perhaps those explanations might work, but why does the picture frame shrink, enh? Answer me THAT, Mr. Tom Gammill!

I don’t think the strip is too “crazy.” Reality is “Cathy.” Reality is the current incarnation of “Funky Winkerbean.” Is that really where you want to take “The Doozies”?

Tom: Don’t change a thing! I sometimes scratch my head but mostly laugh out loud at these strips.

The picture frame shrinks because Dean has walked farther away, he’s heading off to see his friend, Herb.

I read Cathy and I like that reality, it only works in that world. I’m not wild about strips that are basically sitcoms, stuff you can see on TV. It’s a comic strip so why not have an occasional flying invisible friend? They don’t do that on TV anymore (I miss the days when they did, that’s why I’m doing a comic strip)

All of this makes me wonder what would happen if Tom really did do a “Funky Winkerbean”-style overhaul on “The Doozies.”

Eve would be in her early twenties and dating Herb, much to the consternation of Dean and Dana. Dean would be helming a struggling baked-good-hat store. And there would be a dramatic story arc culminating in the death of Davey, Dean’s kid brother.

Meanwhile, Duncan Doozie, now a young man, would return to the strip…
