A few years ago the Laborers Union in Chicago, who represent the flag men and women, had their contract come due. The companies all wanted to eliminate the flaggers. The union said no dice, and even though every other demand was met, they were prepared to strike. The flaggers kept their job, and got a nice raise. I depend on flaggers to get my truck into expressway traffic in Chicago, I’m very glad they are there. It may appear that they are doing nothing, but I can’t do my job without them.
