When my parents drafted their first will, they had to name me executor because my shickens**t sister acted just like Elly about it.

That may have been how Lynn felt about it then. I’ll bet she wouldn’t cry about it now.

Let her cry now and come back to her later on when she can think a little more practically about it.

It’s necessary to get this done, but it is sad to think about. Well, unless you have a hitman out on your spouse, I guess. ;)

Sure, blame it on the time of the month. How about getting scared of being left alone with little kids?

So howcome wuzzit in later years, Lynn had the family virtually tear-free and emotionally stoic upon the actual deaths of Farley and Grandma???

Man, I love Elly’s pose in the first panel. Even the early strips, as comparatively rough and erratic as they were (when measured against the very controlled, confident final strips) show a seemingly effortless sophistication, an attention to realism and subtle nuance not usually seen in comics these days.

She’s acting like a baby about something both unavoidable and very far off. Nothing has happened yet, nor is it likely for decades. And besides, she could still buy it first. The only good side of it all is that it does show him how much she loves him.

I don’t have to be married to understand this. I get nightmares hearing my PARENTS discussing these things. Needless to say, I have much better parents than Elly & John!
